  1. The first asymetrical drill design was an amazing moment for drum corps. But it happened at SCV and was written by Pete Emmons in 1976 I think. The year may be off by one or two, but the corps placed fifth that year, because the judges just didn't know how to score it. From that point on, everything about drill changed, influencing the Cadets radical designs in the early part of the three-peat.
  2. That is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard. Once I started imagining it, I was almost in tears laughing. Just imagine how irate the crowd would be. It would be hilarious. Great idea!!! HaHaHa.
  3. There are several people in the Drum Corps activity that are very upset that Magic is still fielding a corps every summer and still being allowed to field a corps after what happened financially in 2003 and 2004. I am one of them. I was on the visual staff for the corps in 2003, and I can tell you for an absolute fact that there was, during those two years, gross mismanagement of funds and a blatant disregard for staff contracts as well as the other paid staff including support staff, cooks, corps directors, etc. The fact that there is even an option is appalling. Magic should be made to go inactive until they can reconcile all of the debt that they are simply ignoring, and get on the straight and narrow. This is debt that only DCI or a class action law suit can fix. DCI has been told repeatedly about these problems and they have turned their backs on former staff members and others who are still owed thousands and thousands of dollars. I am over it, and I have sat on this information long enough. People have been wronged and something needs to be done about it. If you would like more factual info, I can contact every person who is still owed money and have them fax me contracts which I would be happy to post online for all to see. Sorry this is so negative, but I love drum corps and I hate to see it abused like this.
  4. The Blue Devils do not officially have a corps song. And if they did, I don't really know what it would be. WAMLAW is barely ever played, maybe Tiger of San Pedro or Legend...One Eyed Sailor, who knows.
  5. Soprano- 1997 Blue Devils, 1995 Madison Scouts, 1996 Phantom Regiment Trumpet- 2004 Blue Devils Mellophone- 1991 Star, 1998 SCV (wow), 2001 Blue Devils (underappreciated) Baritone/Euph.- 1996 Phantom Regiment, 2006 Phantom Regiment, 2004 SCV Tuba/Contra- 1986 Star, 1995 Cadets
  6. Star 93 Cadets 95 SCV 98 Blue Devils 01 Blue Devils 04 Wow, I didn't realize how many amazing shows should have won. This is my list of second place shows that I believe should have won the championship. I know there may be more that are deserving of a ring, but these are the first ones to pop off the top of my head.
  7. I guess I liked the arrangement that SCV played, but I just can't give it to them over Cadets. SCV murdered Short Ride all season long. I had to listen as night after night their trumpet section and tuba section had themselves. Cracking multiple notes, missing releases, bad articulation, and low brass way out of tune. You can even hear on finals night, the trumpets are fracking and cracking their way through. The alarm section is cool, but terribly out of tune. The whole thing is just a disaster. Therefore, I give my vote to Cadets 91. Not the most amazing show of all time, but played better, and so I liked it better.
  8. I think it would be cool to hear Phantom play Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. The hornline would do an amazing job with it, as well as the battery and the color guard. The best thing about doing "Firebird" is that, unlike the Roman show which got compared to Star 91, this show may be compared with the mighty 1997 Cavaliers, hahahahahaha, no problem doing a better job with it than they did. I think most of the top 12 could play better than the 97 Cavies. Anyway, the show would be amazing, aggressive, and I think they could win next year if they pick the right show.
  9. Here we go!! 1. Phantom Regiment - 98.125 2. Blue Devils - 97.850 2. Cavaliers - 97.850 4. Cadets - 95.850 5. Bluecoats - 95.450 6. Santa Clara Vanguard - 94.9 I just want to say, who ever included captions in their scores, where did you get those? Blue Devils and Phantom have been killing Cavies in brass all season, and Blue Devils have beaten Phantom in drums many times. I have been on tour all summer, and I can tell you that the vibe around the judges and DCI in general is that Cavies won't win the majority of the captions but could take GE and win the title. They have too many problems with technique player to player to win brass, and they have some major technique and foot timing issues to win anything visual, except GE. It could be like 2001, GE and a championship, wow, it must be nice to have a design staff earn your title for you.
  10. The snare heads were Mylar until sometime in Kansas, when they switched to Remo WhiteMax Kevlar heads. But I do believe that the Mylar heads were also Remo.
  11. By far, the old school solo of all time is Stone Ground Seven from Vanguard 1980, but Bridgemen's Black Market Juggler is a pretty close second. As for modern day solo's, here's a couple: Cadets 2000, Vanguard 2003, Blue Devils 2004. I think that the solo in Vanguard's 2003 show is the most amazing drum writing that I have ever heard, and boy do they throw it down!!!
  12. It feels good when I have a tough time with my top 12 because there are so many good groups out there, but here goes. 1. The Concord Blue Devils 2. Phantom Regiment 2. The Cavaliers 4. The Cadets 5. The Bluecoats 6. The Boston Crusaders 7. The Madison Scouts 7. Santa Clara Vanguard 9. Carolina Crown 10. Blue Knights 11. Spirit 12. Crossmen, Glassmen, Colts, Capital Regiment, Seattle Cascades, who knows???? I think its gonna be a good year.......
  13. Absolutely without a doubt, 1996 Madison Scouts.
