  1. Yeah, I was thinking the cameraman must be a total idiot zooming in on the drum but then wondered how many bones Pearl and Evans must be throwing into the activity. I know some may see this as a biased opinion, given my history and experience, but I think Spirit's line is better than last year's line after watching them the other day. Impressive again this year....Shane has those boys packing heat... ...so if the stars are aligning correctly it could be a very good year for Spirit.
  2. good drumline again this year...really good!
  3. As a former snare drummer who marched 6 years...I have to get skin cancers removed every 6 months. I keep getting these dark bumpy, non-healing, little cancer blotches. Since cancer runs in my family, my fear is that one day I'll have a full blown melanoma. I truly wish I had only marched a couple years with taking care of myself. I used to get fried. Any new members out there....WEAR SUN SCREEN!!!! It ain't cool to have to get these things burned, cut, or scraped off....I have a permanent slash across my forehead where one was surgically removed. and now I have a huge spot on my face which will have to be surgically removed. Heed my warning and protect your skin!!!
  4. Nobody has mentioned Jason Mackenroth, former drummer for Rollins Band (Henry Rollins) and Mother Superior. He has also played for Daniel Lanois and is currently the set drummer for Blue Man Group in Vegas. He marched Sacramento Freelancers in 87 and 88, center snare. Scott Steward, sop for Freelancers & BD ....plays trumpet for Denver and The Mile High Orchestra, on tour right now with Casting Crowns. I'll see him on Sunday, for lunch and then the concert.
  5. Were you listening to the radio in the 70's and 80"s? ....jk. Kansas has few hits, though I don't believe any went #1. I appreciate your opinion, but you gotta admit the show does touch a nerve of interest. Also, I truly do understand your point, but I am excited as a SOA alum to hear some music that I can relate to, but the creative aspect will really have to flourish to pull it off. I believe the staff they have can do it, plus the kids will really get into it too. Spirit did a drum solo to Kansas' No One Together, and renamed it We're All Together, back in 83 & 84. Spirit's drumline was strong back then, just as they are now, and with the drumline playing the way they have been in recent years they should be fun to watch.
  6. Please add one for the Freelancers????.....Thanks so much....
  7. right on....I'll send you a PM for Matt...I've thought about him over the years...I questioned a score and did say some things about the judge..."ears"...and was blasted...I highly respect him, but thought his score differential was way off.....got slammed by several dudes. Did you get a chance to check out any lines in Ft Walton? I knew Mike McIntosh very well when I marched and he's truly an incredible teacher and player....another Johnson or Float.
  8. thanks man....Liked Matt a lot, and hung with him a bunch. Incredible hands....what is he up to now? we worked together at Great Southern Percussion making carriers before the 90' season.
  9. Oh yeah...dig....on your side. I just don't want to see you get slammed by someone who would take you the wrong way...
  10. Don't question drum scores. You can say you respect someone all you want, but don't bash them or their score they give....trust me. Just go with the score and agree with it....it's the word.
  11. Then Spirit must have drawn a square with four dots in the corners?
  12. So wrong....funny though...have seen the videos....... be careful, you just might have some very angry people tell you your angry and you have no right to say that....they're watching...you and I don't care, but they want you to care and make you feel bad.... funny post though dude...
  13. I'm not...Why should I consider my opinion? Maybe it's you that fails to accept it. I stated an opinion and all the hate mongers come on to nail me down because of it. Deal with it....I'll say it again....I disagree with the scores given out the other night........Did I call JJ a name or something derogatory? NO....just disagreed with his scores from the other night. more than likely...we would be drinking a beer having this discussion and would disagree on certain things, but since we aren't...this is our forum. We probably would agree on a whole hell of a lot more, really. Let me share with you that I negotiate for a living; contracts, agreements, and/or payouts. You won't get me to change my opinion, and I have no qalm telling anyone that I disagreed with their opinion. So, no matter what walk of life, how good they are, or where they've been I won't change my opinion on the fact that a swing in scores that drastic was not right....I respect the score given by JJ because of who he is and what he does (his sacrifices to do it).....don't agree with that one score, but I can deal with it because it was one given night. If it were consistent from him then I'd understand a little better. I have also said that he has usually been very fair with scores. I simply disagreed with his score on one night....can you accept that? If so, let's move on...If not, then we'll drink a beer at a DCA show and talk about a drum score, so you can show me how ###### off you are.
  14. That's a great reply. I don't believe I disrespected you, but I did ask you to understand my point before you reply with what you said. My view point is my view point. I can't wait until one of you have an opinion about something and I can blast it, and then have a cheerleader in the background yell, "LOL." Like I said before, normally JJ has had very good scores for Spirit, but I simply disagreed with the score he gave them a couple nights ago. Did I ever once say that he couldn't play, teach, or judge? You, as well, have a nice day....
  15. I don't believe so....Thank you for your contribution. Good night.
  16. You have no idea what you are talking about. Before 07 blah....nice try, I was part of a staff that got Crown into the top 12 back in the 90's, so before you go talking #### about anyone getting fired, know your facts, punk. You still can't name the corps or the years you marched? DCP rookie ...le' me guess, high school drummer?
  17. I have my views on everyone....nice cliche. And if you have peaced out on the thread then why are you still in it?...where did you march dude?
  18. seen 'em....notes aren't the same as they used to be....BTW, used to teach Crown. What years did you march?
  19. Being on staff in 93', you should have been used to getting blasted at critique, yes???...BTW, silly is your little rinse-repeat B.S. up above.
  20. Was at the show, and I don't need to see a "recording." Sorry, but your wrong....never questioned his credentials, just his ears. I, 99.9% of the time, agree with his adjudication. I also spent two days watching Blue Stars practice in Atlanta, love the show, but the drum line was just OK, and definitely NOT better than Spirit. Yes, they have made improvements, but the point differential is what I have a problem with......in one night. I'll go out on a limb here...I believe the drum scores are gonna be pushed to ensure top 9 placement in Finals....don't believe me? Still don't understand why you "get it".....a spade is a spade....if A is cleaner than B then I'll call it that way....
