  1. I was a snare in corpvets the first year they started. 1 of 3! Then 1 of 2...
  2. ValDownUnder... some people might take that the wrong way...
  3. What’s offensive is all the movement stuff drum lines do today then they throw their arms down after they play a few licks... I guess that’s what 60’s and 70’s drumlines thought about 80’s and 90’s drumlines when they started moving side to side and diagonally. About your friend, either take him to a gun range and show him the real thing or take him to more shows so he can get used to it.
  4. 1. It’s way too early. 2. 1989 Suncoast 3. 1988 Madison
  5. All these changes are why I became uninterested in the activity. Great for some, but not great for others. From time to time I check in with Spirit, but for the other corps I neither really care or am interested. I thank Hopkins and all the other corps directors who thought (voted) for amplification, slides, and electronics... Oh well, I do wish all the kids good luck and pray for them!
  6. It was stated in an earlier post that both stadiums were unavailable due to a soccer game and reconstruction. I thought the same as well, to be honest.
  7. If you are on Northside Dr, just west of the Dome and GWCC, you will intersect with Ivan Allen Jr. Dr on the northside of the GWCC. There is a parking lot on Ivan Allen you can park in that runs along side Northside Dr. You have to get there around 1pm-2pm to have any luck.
  8. ^^^ Exactly why all of us alumni stepped in ^^^ ... Since my first year marching drum corps, in 85', I have never seen an alumni rally quite like this one! So proud! I only wish the Freelancers could have done the same...
  9. Very cool, Harvey!!! Thank you very much for doing that! This has all been very emotional, and the love that other corps have given Spirit is unreal. DCI has also been very supportive of what we are all doing... When I say "we" I speak of alumni in general, but I am just a itty bitty alum who cares for my corps.
  10. That's correct! We have to maintain the kids, establish strong funding, and build the alumni membership.
  11. Prayers going out to those families and to the Gold family. Sad days for sure.
  12. You're right... Todd Snead left corps with $0 debt...
  13. Those items are expensive... If you are asking if Spirit is in a bind again are you donating or just asking? I'm asking you because I don't know if you currently donate, or not... Take no offense... You may not be privy to the current alumni movement to save the corps for next year, but the need is for future years to come. Go read the post on what was recently set up...
  14. All DCI fans who would like to see Spirit of Atlanta survive should go donate immediately at www.soaaa.org. It is the Spirit of Atlanta Alumni Association, and you don't have to be an alumni to donate... You can set up a recurring donation. The BoD is currently restructuring, and changes are definitely happening for the future existence of the corps. Don't believe me? Go to read it for yourself on the Facebook page for Spirit... https://m.facebook.com/spiritdrumcorps Please, if you care at all that Spirit survive this next year, donate... Most companies match, so please explore that option. This alumni movement is unreal, and DCI is 100% behind these changes... We will be back!!!
  15. I can assure you... Jeff is the right person in the interim, and we are grateful the former Chair stepped down. She did what was right... I was not privy to certain alumni conversations, but the trust level we have in Jeff has brought this alumni group to life like nothing I've ever seen before. Many of us alums felt alone until we had been called upon by the rally cry. Like many alumni rallies, this rally (I said RALLY, not take over... This is not what this was) was epic and should be remembered as calculated, articulated, and well managed by all involved. Of course, Annette is an alum and always will be! She did the right thing here.
  16. Can you guys say a prayer for the corps tonight? Thanks...
  17. What a bulls**t topic, but if you must know...the alumni is pulling together and that's all I'll say. Bye the way, I was part of some of those years where we actually beat Cadets, Phantom, Madison, Cavies, and others in drums throughout the year. Yeah, those crappy scores are what defined my seasons!
  18. Don't go there for 1 year and bail...<-------- this is what you should not be thinking before you go and audition. Here's why; you will develop some of the best friendships and memories your first year that you will want to keep and build on. If you want to help build the corps into what it was or what it could be then go march Spirit and stay there. Make history! If you want to go win a DCI Championship then stay away from Spirit and go straight to auditions for one of yearly contenders. Don't waste their time nurturing you as a musician, and don't waste your time if you all you want to do is win DCI year after year. And.....there is NOTHING wrong with that! I say this to give you good advice... Spirit doesn't want the kid who's going to bail after their 1st year. Quite frankly, I hope you do march Spirit and build as a person, meet life-long friends, and be a part of rebuilding that corps. I can tell you I spoke with their snareline this year, and those kids are special... They soaked in what I had to say to them, and I'll remember their faces forever... You also need to know that it's okay to go somewhere and try to win your first year... If you have the chops and are smart enough to take in the mental toughness then you should take advantage of that! Good luck wherever you go, but give Spirit a try at least...
  19. Sure wish Spirit was in the mix for top 12 this year... Man... Just tough to witness... Those kids deserve better and play their hearts out... Just a very young corps this year, plus everyone who has seen them says they don't get the show...GE and Guard issues?
  20. Anybody have tickets to sell for next week?
  21. I'm in Atlanta so speak for yourselves... Lots of places are diverse & have high paying jobs here in the south. If you're "fab", and living in the north, then try coming south sometime...
  22. It is frustrating as an alum, but God Bless the kids and staff... A part of me would love to say that if Spirit went by the names of BD, Vanguard, or Cadets then the 73 would be an 83. I can't though... It is what it is... Not giving up on them.
