  1. Good going Chops Inc. Drumline! Too bad A class finals is limited to only 3 corps. I think that's an unfair bias against smaller corps on the part of DCA>
  2. When an Army would go off to war two hundred years ago, a fife and drum unit lead the way. The drum was slung over the shoulder and was very tilted, which required "traditional" snare grip. Now that drums are flat, there is no reason to play traditional grip at all, unless you like the look of it. Tilting the snares in modern drum corps makes physical sense for the player and is the original way a marching snare drummer played the instrument.
  3. Of the 36 or so snares that competed, only one was starting threads about himself. Sure, I&E solos might have a lot of similarities from performer to performer, but none of them were here trying to hype it. Your continuous posts about your solo before it happened, and your disclaimers and excuses after the fact, shows that there's one glaring thing you lack: modesty. Just like your forum signature that insists people look at your movie that got a 2.8 out of 10 rating at IMDB. Everything about you just screams "look at me! look at me!" I guess we learned something though: good will always triumph over evil.
  4. "The position requires a three year enlistment in the United States Army." As a former soldier, I can assure you the pay is NOT "good" either.
  5. Finale has their own specific forums that are a lot more helpful at makemusic.com. You can also open the manual and read about it! And of course, if you own it legally you can contact tech support. :) P.S. Buy Sibelius!
  6. FYI: The F-14 has been phased out of the Navy and there are no longer any in service. The poll should be "F/A-18 Super Hornet" :)
  7. I'm a former Army Ranger and I think it's a great idea. I joined when I was 17 and was 22 when I got out, so I never marched a DCI corps. Luckily MN Brass is an awesome Senior Corps and I was able to march there a few years. Most jobs with age limits will extend the limit for the number of years served in the military (except pilots.) For example, if a police department has an age limit of 35, they will raise the limit to 41 if you served 6 years.
  8. 1. Star '91 cross (still hasn't been topped!) 2. Star '93 anti-climax hit where they spin and do the wave thingy 3. SCV '99
  9. Every stadium is acoustically different, so if the corps can't do a soundcheck, then staff should be able to adjust the volume.
  10. duh, everyone knows RINGO STAR is the greatest drummer that EVER lived!
  11. I wonder if this will hurt Impulse membership- they even mention in their show program that they are "staffed by fomer VK members" at every show and have definitely attempted to be their replacement for years.
  12. There would need to be A LOT more promotion and fan support in the West. Senior corps is rather unknown and the stereotype is that of standstill alumni corps or super-mega-old-school. I went to one of the recent So. CA shows that had the 3 senior corps and 10 junior corps, none of which were top-12 Div 1. Despite being in the 2nd largest city, my family and I literally bought tickets ($10) when we got to the show late, sat mid-way up the bleachers on the 50, and had 2 empty rows in front and behind us for the entire show. There was no one sitting outside the 35 yard lines at all. In contrast, the show with SCV, BD, and BK just a couple weeks before was in a much larger stadium and was packed, with tickets at $22-30. So what I'm saying is the scene needs to improve, at least in LA, to host a DCA show and be able to pay for travel, judges, etc.
  13. One thing I really notice as a quad drummer is a lot of lines have tenor parts that sound like an "afterthought." It's as if the guy wrote out 16 bars of snare licks, backed it up with basses, then thought "uhh... I'll have the quads move the snare part around the drums" or worse. There's a lot of sheet music floating around the web. "Quad Logic" by Bill Bachman is a great start. Tapspace sells publications for really cheap too. I recommend learning the standard patterns first- how best to move from drum to drum with a nice flow. Then get to know crossovers. That is my $.02
  14. This wouldn't be necessary if DCP moderators would ban people using their 3rd or 4th username after being repeatedly banned. When the evidence against them is clearly posted, like I have, it would be nice to see some results.
