  1. Fact check: You made a statement. I asked what you meant. You won't answer the question (which to me implies you are just making stuff up) I'll stop feeding the troll. I'm done. <**>
  2. how would I know whether you were intending sarcasm or a lie?
  3. It says nothing about which side of the brain they were using. If you stop using the right hand, then you have to use what's left. Which arm is left? The Left! Which side of the brain controls the left? The Right! Which side of the brain do you use to figure that out? The Left! Sounds like every possible angle to me, as they promised! :P
  4. Maybe it's a way of getting in the song: "It's Still Rock and ROLL to me!" :P
  5. You said you didn't think they marched very well. (I happen to think that they ACHIEVE more than their competitors, but that's another discussion.) Ok, so BD marched better. Well, they won excellence. The judge agreed with you (although there is more to excellence than the lack of marching tics). Then the judge thought Cavaliers composition was better. He had them up in composition. Seems like he's not that far off from your opinions. Maybe you would have had a bigger spread. But he did have BD up in excellence.
  6. You know, I don't agree that they are the same. But I went back and watched to be sure. The only similarity I can find are the use of vocals. FC: Starts by banging on the horns and goes into vocals 1, 1-and, 1-and 2, then dies away as percussion takes over. P: Pressure starts with percussion and different sections shout from different parts of the field, but the vocals get louder and take over. FC: horns run in snakey kind of forms around the color guard who starts dancing P: starts in straight line and folds out from center with little groups of brass, percussion broken up, and guard in giant block with rifle FC: big ending is with percussion on one side and brass and guard together on other side doing quite a long movement phrase that begins with guard member being tossed P: big ending is brass around percussion while rifles do a massive exchange while horns slide to ground pointing to percussion I really don't see any similarities other than the use of vocals. And when it comes to THAT, Cavaliers are certainly not the biggest offenders! The drill is not the same, the music is not the same, the phrasing of the music is not the same, the guard is on different equipment, there is no big movement feature for the horns, and no guard member is thrown.
  7. See the thread on brass caption heads for a breakdown of the Cavalier brass philosophy. As far as the judging criteria, I'm sure someone can post the critieria on the various music sheets.
  8. While I disagree with your 'stumbling' assessment, even in a relative sense, you have to look at the recap. You thought BD (and PR which I can't see) were cleaner. Cavaliers did indeed win Visual Ensemble, but if you look closer, they won on the basis of the composition subcaption. In the excellence subcaption, they were down to the Blue Devils. Just pointing out that maybe the judges aren't nearly as blind as you might imply....
  9. Wow. I haven't heard that expression since grade school! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
