  1. OMG Father Hayes. Of course I know Father Hayes. He was the best. He was an exceptional man. He looks so young in this picture. Although my first year to march was in 1965 I actually joined in 64, but you had to go thru a year of training before marching. It was all so strict. How do you know Father Hayes? Is it okay if I share this picture with some people? Here's another pic of St. John's Girls 1967 or 68 I'm the flag on the left.
  2. Another wonderful all-girls corps out of Quebec... They were a wealth of all-girls corps. Some never even left Quebec.
  3. Wow Fleabag - these are great. I've never seen them before. I'd take it these were around 1965 or earlier. That uniform changed in 1967... and then again in 1972. But the nuns wouldn't let our skirts show our knees. We use to have to kneel on the floor for measurement if there was any in question. Thanks for putting these up.
  4. I know for sure he didn't march in Seneca and doubt he marched at all. Bruce is right, I myself, have never heard of a school in Canada with a marching band... We were all about drum corps...
  5. Bruce, you're absolutely right. Back then we were known as the K of C St. John's Girls and we did do that performance. We used to do a lot of performances in Hamilton with that large Italian Catholic population there was always something going on ... Thanks for the memory jog... needing that these days... & Linda thanks for posting it. As for the Brantford show, back then Brantford didn't have a football field ... the show was at Cockshutt Park, a baseball field but I must say the people of Brantford really rallied around the corps and were very pro drum corps. In 1965 (my first yr to march) we performed on the hockey rink to welcome Pierre Trudeau to Brantford before he got elected. That was definitely a highlight.
  6. Yeah Wow that's a lot of folks all dressed up... WTF. That's me second flag from the right (in back). I remember that drill but not all those that crowd.
  7. Yup Garry, he's my ex husband. We taught Chatelaines and Seneca together, he M&M and me Colour Guard. We are still good friends... He was an artist by profession and he did a number of album/program covers in Canada. I believe he did all the "Invitation Quebec" ones as his friends were the organizers of that show. He also painted portaits of certain members as gifts or awards.
  8. Linda, geez I haven't seen this pic since back in the day. That's Mike Williams one of the 76 drum majors doing the modeling honours. Lots of familiar faces. Some people may recognize Dave MacKinnon from Bluecoats sitting in the bottom left in the white shirt and all that hair. Thanks for digging that one up.
  9. In the picture of Les Chatelaines above the drumline, like the rest of the corps, have on high red leather boots, and short white skirts with red tunics.
  10. Wow Linda great shot of the original Chatelaines. This was a completely different corps than most people remember. Their unis were red and white with gold trim. They folded after 1972. The new Chatelaines (burgundy & pink ones) started up under completely different leadership & instruction. The original Chatelaines were another example of the excellence in girl corps from Quebec around this time. Every year at Canadian nationals some obscure corps would show up from somewhere in Quebec and kick everyone's ###es and then disappear.
  11. Well all you guys whining about your pee antics have no idea what happens when 100 girls gotta pee at the same time. Other corps would honk as they drove by and saw dozens of teenage girls squatting in a scatter formation in the high grasses of the chosen field. We were all praying that some kind of weird rodent or snake wasn't gonna jump up and bite. And as for the smelly uniform ... Girls rule ... boys smell!!!
  12. This is from 1972 the year St. John's Girls won US Open (all girls) and the one year I marched in the corps with my 3 sisters. My sister Mary-Anne is in this pic... the cymbal player who the judge appears to be looking at.... Today is St. John's 56th birthday... They are still alive ... and are reorganizing once again. Happy Birthday to the corps I got my start with in 1964
  13. I'll second this insofar as drum corps as I knew it in Canada up thru the late 70s. Since for the most part Canada does not have marching bands, this, in my opinion would be a major reason there are almost no drum corps left in Canada anymore.
  14. This is Gisele Montreal. It must have been a great show for her since she started out in Les Chatelaines and here she is performing for the home town crowd... She's an amazing person... She does ROCK!
  15. I agree with ironlips - definitely ND Ettes were a force .... strong contenders back in the heyday of All Girls Corps. Growing up in the All Girls scene there were certrain corps you looked forward to meeting up with as strong competition.... They were one. Also every year at the end of the 60s early 70s at Canadian Nationals more and more all girl power houses came forward out of Quebec to vie for the All Girls Canadian title. Corps that really didn't tour the US but we knew them well in Canada... Les Marionnettes de Montmagny, Les Cavalieres, Les Marquis d'Auteil de Laval, Les Laurentiennes de Montreal Nord to name a few and not to exclude in the earlier 60s... Marching Angels and the Lionettes. The Quebec girls came out of the gate ready for business. I must agree though that the top of the heap back in that day were the Bon Bons or Les Bon Bons.
  16. Belles of St. John's (feeder corps for St. John's Girls)
  17. Thanks Linda... I loved those girls Nic, Mo and Claire were great anchors in the Seneca Guard - very solid. I saw them when I was in TO last Fall at a Seneca get together.. Nic is on Facebook too along with a lot of your Princemen/Firefighter girls. I'm so diggin all these pics and posts here right now.
  18. I agree Linda, they always had an excellent guard & I think this pic lays it out. Check out the perfect heel toe...we see the underside of their boots as their heels are digging in, Also perfect arrangement of tallest to shortest from the middle slopping to the ends and their arm positioning is PERFECT slope of their arms, position of the hands, and thus causing perfect interval.... I just love love this picture. An old school flag line at it's finest.
  19. When I first saw the guy with the brown shoes I thought - Hell if he forgot his white bucks at home... he didn't have to go far to go home and get them.
  20. I have several photos of each these corps if you want to see them. SCV Sacred Heart Crusaders Madison Scouts Commodors (I think) De LaSalle (I'm almost sure) Cavaliers Bridgemen Several I don't knows Nehi Ambassodors (guessing) Troopers Argonne Rebels Boston Crusaders (I have some really nice shots here) When you put up the "I don't knows" we'll all take a stab at the "guessing" game.
  21. No I don't think Susan Taylor marched with LaSalle Cadets. She would be too young. Plus these guys expired in the early 70s and had only just let girls in the guard when that happened. One of my fav corps though.... Exciting! Exciting! All these pics are slammin' Yeah Baja let's see your whole toy box.
  22. The exact name to search on Facebook is: Tom Float Drummers
