  1. The people in the stands have already voted -- it is the Madison Scouts! Vic Russell
  2. I think BD had a very entertaining show that was performed exceptionally well. I prefer that show to the shows of SCV, Bluecoats and Crown. On the other hand, I also really liked the Cavies, Cadets, and PR. Vic Russell
  3. Vanguard 1988 is my all-time favorite drum corps show. But, in recent years their shows do nothing for me. Even Glassmen and BK are putting on more entertaining shows! Vic Russell
  4. To me, the most interesting numbers are the number of doners for each corps. The Scouts had 49 more people donate than Boston. I am glad I am supporting the corps with substantially more doners -- the people's choice! Vic Russell
  5. Just donated $100 to Scouts! Not kidding. Thanks to Mr. LaCrosse for motivating me. Vic Russell
  6. Perhaps your unique talent at critiquing is being wasted on the readers of this thread. I would suggest you might want to leave this thread and exercise your critiquing talent on threads for other corps so that your unique perspective is not wasted on Scouts "homers." Vic Russell
  7. It is very difficult to get the stunning impact of the Scouts' 2010 show watching the Fan Network version. I was not that impressed when I saw it on the Fan Network. The live version (at Drums on Parade on Saturday) was very impressive and very entertaining. The "wall of sound" is more than a slogan. Please see this show in person! Vic Russell
  8. I just ordered my tickets for Drums on Parade on June 26 in Madison! Vic Russell
  9. And please remind me, why are Scouts fans who have been posting here for years being lectured on Board etiquette by someone who just joined DCP? Vic Russell
  10. I understand that some of the "name" people the Scouts have brought on board have recently worked with Crown and the Blue Stars. That tells me that the DCI establishment has already given its stamp of approval to these "names." It seems to me that if a corps has the right "names" on its staff, the DCI establishment will reward that corps. This process has irritated the hell out of me in the past, but I guess I should go with the flow and enjoy the fact that the DCI-approved "names" are now with a corps I have supported for many years. Vic Russell
  11. I am very happy with the Scouts' announced program. I am really looking forward to 2010! Vic Russell
  12. How Nice! The concern trolls are out in force yet again. Vic Russell
  13. I think that some posters here fail to take into account that the Madison Scouts are a national (at times international) corps with a national fan base. Yes, I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but I have lived in Chicago for many years. I think that it is ironic that during the nine years I lived in Madison (65-73) I was a fan of the Racine corps. In 1988, I was disappointed that the Scouts won the DCI championship because I thought Santa Clara Vanguard should have won. I didn't become a Scouts fan until the 90's -- great shows, great presence, great uniforms -- the whole package. I am hoping the Scouts will now return to the vibe of the 90s. Vic Russell
  14. I think it would be wonderful if a large group of Scouts alumni and fans attend the MDBCA meeting. I only hope, as they come armed with bylaws and opinions, that they also come armed with generous checks to support the organization. Vic Russell
  15. As a Scouts fan, I primarily read Scouts threads. I don't read Boston threads, so I didn't know that Boston was taking heat for rehearsing somewhere else. I doubt anyone said that it was terrible for the Boston Crusaders to rehearse elsewhere but fine for the Madison Scouts to rehearse in Bloomington, Indiana. I suspect that anyone who objects to one circumstance objects to both circumstances. As a practical matter, hardly anyone from Madison marches with the Scouts, hardly anyone from LaCrosse marches with the Blue Stars, hardly anyone from Rockford marches with PR, hardly anyone from Rosemont marches with the Cavaliers, etc..., etc.... DCI has evolved into a few national corps. The names of the corps are simply holdovers from the golden era of drum corps when most members of corps actually lived in the area where they marched.
  16. I realize that many posters may have over-dosed on the Scouts over the past few weeks given the hype over all of the high-profile staff appointments for 2010. I think, however, that Scouts fans should keep a thread going concerning the Scouts and 2010. For now, I am primarily interested in "off season" fund raising. Does anyone have a sense of how that is going? As time goes on, we can also discuss the turnout for auditions, Scouts Winterguard program, 2010 programming decisions, and possible uniform changes. I am less interested in speculating on the Scouts 2010 likely placement. Vic Russell
  17. It seems to me that the real benefit of the Scouts announcing this high-powered staff is that music teachers, such as the poster I am quoting, will recommend that their students audition with the Scouts. Vic Russell
  18. Why couldn't you just make these reasonable points the first time? My strong objection is to your use of the totally inapropriate Jim Jones reference in your prior post. I think that goes way beyond thinking some Scouts fans are engaging in "irrational exhuberance" regarding the Scouts staff choices for 2010. Vic Russell
  19. This comment is really nasty. I think the forum administrator should lift this person's ability to post on DCP. Vic Russell
  20. Thanks for providing some factual information on this matter. It is obvious that some people post here without any factual basis for their conclusions. I hope the Scouts finances have now stabilized so the current leadership can put its emphasize on developing an exciting show for 2010. Vic Russell
  21. I agree completely with this statement. However, I think my problem is the 2009 show was too confusing and it didn't really ignite the crowd. By contrast, the 2002 show was a real crowd pleaser -- I still watch that show periodically and really enjoy it. Vic Russell
  22. I vote for a Broadway-themed show that a general audience can really relate to. I think it is more important to get enthusiastic support from people in the stands than to speculate on what kind of show DCI judges might like. Vic Russell
  23. I don't think there is anything in writing that will help you understand DCI scoring. It simply boils down to the collective subjective opinion of the individuals DCI hires to score its contests. Nothing more -- nothing less. Vic Russell
  24. I don't care when or where the regional or "big" shows are held. My objection is that no shows of any kind are held in Northern Illinois - Southern Wisconsin after the first two weeks of the season. I think at least one "small" show featuring the midwest corps should be held just prior to finals in Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin. I think Dekalb, IL would be the ideal location. Vic Russell
