  1. Many things can happen between the months of May and August. Here we can laugh about things that happened that no one knew about until after they got home and started watching the news or hanging out with non-corps people. My first example would be in 2007... the Soulja Boy. I came home from my first drum corps tour, and all of a sudden, everyone knew this new "dance step" (if you can call it that) and I had no idea what was going on. Second '07 example... the Mississippi bridge collapse. That was an on-tour thing because many of the parents were talking about it and we were pretty close to Mississippi at the time. Third example in 2008... I got home and and all of a sudden, Russia invaded Georgia. It was an often-discussed topic and I had to fill myself in on what was going on. Any others?
  2. I want to do that. That actually seems really romantic.
  3. I was there for Finals night in 2007, when during the Cadet's show. Right before the third movement when the baritone player begins to talk about his experience with music, a member of the crowd yells, "Shut up!" Anyone who was there heard it. It's difficult (but not impossible) to hear it on the finals DVD's. If you listen closely, you can hear someone shout something and then a few people laugh. It happened, and I was there.
  4. As far as captions go, Raiders and Citations were rivals last year. I remember trailing and heading them at different points in the season. Citations obviously had the Spartans staff going for them, and Raiders seemed to pull the result of the season out of the air. I don't think I've heard of a corps to double their score over the course of the competitive season. I am very interested to see where the cards fall this year. I don't think it's safe to call a winner or even a top 3 at this point. I've heard great things about Raiders so far and if Citations keep it up from last year, there's bound to be an exciting season in Open Class.
  5. I agree with people's arguments about consistency. Corps like the Blue Devils and the Cavaliers have been in the top three spots for a long time. Crown began their rise in 2007 with the "Triple Crown" show. I think the direction that Crown's program is going in is putting them on a good path to success. Their shows have been getting more and more entertaining and more and more demanding. I'm not calling anything about this year, but I think that a title might be somewhere in their future. (Of course, I'm auditioning in December, so I'm trying to be as un-biased in my opinion as possible!)
  6. "Right Now" by Van Halen has been a corps tradition with special choreography by the 2005 drum major, Scott Farkas. "Break Stuff" and "Rollin'" by Limp Bizkit "Bat Country" by Avenged Sevenfold We would usually walk off the bus while "Rollin'" was playing to feel especially BA.
  7. That's what I meant. Sorry. 12:30 am typo. I think the point is, narration does not equal cheese. Cheesy narration equals cheese. Hence my Bluecoats/Cadets comparison.
  8. I seem to remember the entire crowd of over 50,000 helping them with that. Their GE was through the roof. WITHOUT narration. Also, narration can be good if used properly. Example: I believe that the fight announcer in the Bluecoats' show "Knockout" greatly contributed to the overall effect of the show. Quick, subtle, and it just put the icing on the cake. It wasn't the platter, batter, icing, sprinkles, and the birthday candles like the Cadets.
  9. The "Pit" drumset player for the Off-Broadway production "The Blue Man Group" as well as one of the blue men has marched. Kingsmen and Cadets I think, but don't quote me on the exact corps.
  10. I am pleased with the DVD and all the competing corps. It would have been nice if they had the angle options or at least the high-cam option. I realize that doing this for only the top 6 Div I corps pushed the marketing price WAY up. It's a nifty thing though when you think you see something cool happening, but the camera is focusing on the drumline or guard or a soloist or something.
