  1. Boston, Love your show! Cavies, I was worried early, but somehow you made it work! Way to go!
  2. Tomatoes and Oranges as some one said to me, although I agree with your assessment of Spirit, I can not over look that the show is thinner than BK. I think both corps are great but you can not deny that BK took the greater risk in show development and pulled it off! Just my two cents and I do respect your POV!
  3. I am also thrilled for Crossmen and yet feel for Blue Stars! What a great effort from both corps it was quite exciting to watch them both through down such great runs!
  4. I think BK was great and Spirit, well good but not better the BK for my taste!
  5. Both corps threw it down and they both have completely different strengths! Call it a tie and take 13 corps to finals! :P Wishful thinking on my part!
  6. Crossmen, made a very strong case for a finalist position!!! WOW
  7. PC another good show! Planning and pacing are strong and they sound great, did it hold up to Colts I wonder?
  8. Colts, this show really grew on me this season. Felt to be an emotionally charged performance today!
  9. Troopers, solid corps and good performance of a show that is just not my cup of tea!
  10. Wow, both Surf and Oregon Crusaders moved me! Great runs from both of them, hope it keeps going from here. :)
  11. Not sure if this is possible but I love both CC and BD shows this year, I think they are both pretty spectacular!
  12. I would certainly hope so! I would think those are compositional elements programed to play a role in the presentation of the show. All those things you mention create a mood. So yes, I believe they are a factor in the process. IMO
  13. First let me say I did not see finals. I don't think anyone could argue that DCA had some of the best corps color guards I have ever seen in DCA, this year. So many have mentioned that a standard has been set by some corps over the years that have caused others to step it up and bring their A game. As for color guard alone, we can all thank the Hurcs design team and color guard performers for setting a new standard of color guard in DCA. I was blown away by Hurcs guard in their prelims performance I saw online, however I would note that Bucs guard, MBI's guard and Hurcs guard were all comparable from a design stand point and brought some element to the table that worked well to enhance the over all programs. I don't think anyone is questioning Hurcs guards degree of excellence/achievement. In fact they did win the achievement sub caption both nights, right? However, just like the general effect caption the composition sub caption for guards can be subjective and call on that particular judges experiences and values to come to a conclusion. Excellence/achievement is for the most part easier to rank and rate compared to placing a compositional numerical value to what you are seeing. Lets see you have color, staging, costuming, dancing, equipment writing that are all compositional elements (and I am missing many more). What I saw was three color guards that did all of that very, very well. With just the compositional elements I mentioned I can honestly say that all three guards had one or more of those elements stronger than the other. My point is that I can not say with any certainty that the color guard judge was right or wrong, that he only had his experience and values to call on to come to a conclusion for what he beleived to be the "performance of the day"! I would not have wanted to do it because quite frankly they were all pretty darn good! As some one who has performed, taught and judged color guard, I am certain that all the performers and staffs could not be more proud of what they accomplished! Best regards to all the performers in all the corps for making this DCA season so enjoyable for me to watch!
  14. There were some ties on the way! 1988 Bush & Sun, 1997 Brigs & Empire.
  15. This year marked DCA's 47th season! With the addition of Minnesota Brass, 10 corps have won the DCA Championship: (If this is not right please feel free to make corrections) Corps - #of wins Buccs - 10 Cabs - 9 Bush - 6 Sunrisers - 6 Brigs - 5 Empire - 5 Hurcs - 3 Skyliners - 3 Westshore - 1 M.B.I - 1 Congrats to Minnesota Brass on this seasons Championship and making the list!
  16. Let me first say, you made some very on point observations and I could not agree more with your remarks. I agree that both programs have all the elements of great drum corps and if they both had a Jr corps rehearsal schedule would be even more fierce, but since this is DCA and they are weekend corps I can only say WOW on being able to accomplish what they do on the limited rehearsal schedule. Obviously both programs have a great amount of commitment and talent! I would be glad to offer my opinions on the guards all though they would only be my opinions. It would be difficult to compare the two without first mentioning that Hurrcs guard this year may very well be the best guard I have ever seen in DCA, with both Bucs and MBI as good as I have ever seen them as well. I obviously have not seen the recaps, (I suspect few have since they are not public yet) however, I would think Hurcs are 1st, Bucs 2nd and MBI 3rd. I can only base that off of the fan network viewing and where the camera happened to be engaged. I think Bucs offer a bit more from a staging aspect however both are very comparable. I think MBI's guard costumes and coloration throughout the program really add to the intrigue of the show. Just a few thoughts on some of the other guards. Empire - very clean well performed however feels a bit limited at times, some nice wow moments from and excellence POV. Cabs - written to a very high level but plagued with timing errors and performance breakdowns, just needs a more solid run to contend with the top three IMO. Corps Vets - what a pleasant surprise they were, I hope they continue to develop what they have going. Definitely some major wow moments out of them and I would not be surprised to see them in the top five guards. Alliance - very well written, shame about the holes not being filled, just didn't help them. They really have a Jr corps feel to them but need more members in the guard to give them the edge they need. Just my opinion, I really did enjoy every single corps and thanks to DCA for allowing all of us not able to be there to see it. Hope all corps have a great finals run!
  17. Big congrats to MBI for their victory! Big congrats to BUCS for an outstanding performance and a winning streak that will be talked about for years to come. Both corps were outstanding and with only .3 separating them going into finals, should make for one super exciting DCA finals! May the best performance win.
  18. Froze up a few times, but all in all it was great to watch!
  19. Loved it!! Teared me up a bit........sometimes forget just how much I miss them!
  20. Great review! I could not agree with you more on almost everything you mentioned. Although Blue Devils are not my "cup of tea", you just can not deny the level of performance from the members, that has yet to be matched by any other corps this season. Well lets see what Indy brings!
