  8. Four: Movements of The Crossmen Symphony Mark Chambers Wes Cartwright Aaron Guidry Darryl Pemberton Having worked together as a Team in various incarnations over the last decade, the afore-mentioned artists have developed a distinct vision, vernacular, and voice, paving the road to their role as creative force behind the 2009 Crossmen production. Ten years in the making, with their capes on and aussies pulled down low, all four are collectively poised and energized for the challenge. Mark Chambers is the Director of The Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as Drum Corps International’s 2008 Director of the Year. Under his leadership, the Ronald Reagan High School Band was the Silver Medalist at the Bands of America’s Grand National Championship in 2003 and 2005. Wes Cartwright has received acclaim in all venues of the marching arts. His Winter Guard show, “ Mannequins ,” is included as one of the “15 Shows That Changed WGI.” He was the visual momentum behind Santa Clara Vanguard’s “ Phantom of the Opera ” championship title, and, most recently, coordinated the Bands of America Grand National Championship Gold Medalist shows at L.D. Bell High School (2007) and Broken Arrow Senior High School (2006). Aaron Guidry continues to perform with Cirque du Soleil’s “ Mystère .” He consults and arranges the wind books for competitive marching bands across the United States with his compositions published through Yata for Luda. Prior to his move to Las Vegas, Aaron was Snare Soloist with the first U.S. tour of “ Blast! .” Darryl Pemberton has over twenty years of experience in the drum corps idiom, beginning as a member of the 1988 Garfield Cadets. He later served as the Visual Caption Head for the Cadets (1998 – 2001), as well as Visual Designer for The Crossmen (2002 – 2004). Darryl is currently the Visual Designer and Color Guard Director at Lady Bird Johnson High School and is completing a degree in fashion design. As Aaron summarizes, “Wes Cartwright presents my music better than anyone, and Mark Chambers has an intuition that can always be trusted. Darryl garners the complete respect of the Corps, and I can’t wait to see all three of these friends in Vegas for our first 2009 conceptual meeting".

  11. Crossmen Leadership / Drum Major Workshop Information The Crossmen will host a one day Leadership / Drum Major workshop for any eXperience camp participants who wish to develop skills in leadership or aspire to be a drum major for any organization. During the sessions, we will explore a variety of leadership topics including organization, communication, attitude, and one of the most crucial aspects of effective leadership: relationships. There will be a session on conducting and “passion on the podium” for those interested in Drum Majoring skills, as well as plenty of opportunities for question and answer sessions with individuals who have been through many of the situations you will experience. The clinic will be conducted by Crossmen Corps Director, Mark Chambers and Assistant Corps Director, Jarrett Lipman. Before serving as the Director of the Crossmen, Chambers spent 8 years as a Band Director at the nationally recognized Ronald Reagan High School and brings a wealth of leadership experience connected to both the Drum Corps Community and the Band World. Lipman is currently an Assistant Director of Bands at Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio and spent 3 years as a Drum Major of the Crossmen Drum Corps, helping to lead the corps in its transition from Allentown, Pennsylvania to Texas in 2007. In addition to Chambers and Lipman, current Crossmen Drum Major and 2008 DCI Jim Jones Leadership Award winner, Meghan Huber will speak at our sessions throughout the course of the weekend. The Jim Jones Leadership Award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a Drum Major in DCI, and Huber will share her thoughts, approach, and experiences with participants. Those planning to attend the Leadership Session should purchase and read through the book The Six Fundamentals of Success by Stuart R. Levine, available at any local or online bookstore. Upon receipt of registration and payment, more information will be distributed by e-mail, including what to prepare for the weekend, what to bring, and exactly what to expect from your time with the Crossmen. After registering for one of the eXperience camps, please e-mail Jarrett@crossmen.org to reserve a spot in the workshop. There is no extra charge for the workshop as it offered as a part of the eXperience camp. Sessions begin at 9:00am on the Saturday of each eXperience Camp and conclude late afternoon. Questions? E-mail Jarrett Lipman at jarrett@crossmen.org
