Crossmen 2014 Brass Staff Announcement Today Crossmen announced the first additions to the 2014 brass staff led by Anthony Cruddas. DCI Hall of Fame Member Frank Williams will join the team as a consultant in addition to Dennis Laorenza. “We are extremely excited and privileged to have these two guys in our corner for the 2014 season, each brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that both our staff and members can benefit from!” stated Brass Caption Head Anthony Cruddas. In addition, Crossmen also welcomed Bill Muter, Tim Nemzin, and Juan Nuñez to the 2014 brass staff. The new staff also includes some familiar faces. Crossmen welcomed back Bill Hawkes, Mike Loffredo, Robert Flores, Will Jurgens, and Aaron Sanderson to the team. Frank Williams Frank Williams received his B.S. degree in music education from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida, and his Master of Music degree from State University of New York in Fredonia, New York. An educator for nearly three decades, he has taught at the junior high, high school, and college levels. Mr. Williams was the Director of Bands at Boca Ciega High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, where his jazz ensembles consistently received superior ratings throughout his tenure. Under his direction, the ensemble won the First Place Gold Status Award at JazzFest USA, sponsored by Downbeat Magazine. With over 30 years in the drum corps activity, Williams has worked with The Cadets, Glassmen, Spirit of Atlanta, Boston Crusaders, Magic of Orlando, Erie Thunderbirds, and Teal Sound. Former students have risen through the music industry to perform with such world-renowned organizations as the Boston Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Walt Disney Entertainment. Mr. Williams is a member of MENC, FBA, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Omega Psi Phi, and has served as Vice President for the IAJE Florida chapter. He maintains an active schedule as a freelance composer, arranger, consultant, and clinician throughout the United States. Mr. Williams has nurtured the growth of many drum corps brass players over the years. And while his mastery of the instruments and the repertoire has played a key role in his success in developing great brass sections, it has been Frank’s willingness to go beyond the music to make personal connections that has inspired students and peers alike for decades. “Frank’s teaching legacy has enriched our musical world through gifted artists and teachers who continue to credit him with a large part of their success,” says publisher and composer Robert Smith. Dennis Laorenza Dennis Laorenza earned his Bachelor of Music from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Dennis is currently a music consultant with numerous bands across the South East United States. He has worked on the brass staff of many DCI Drum & Bugle Corps. In the Sept 5th podcast at 31:10, Fred says "I look forward to Chuck's music arrangements and also our percussion writers whatever they are going to pull together". So, unless things have changed since then....sounds like Chuck will be back.

To build on this. A community based navigation app for the lot. How many times have you been in the lot watching group x warming up and wondered where group y was at? If you're in the lot watching group x, you can tag where the group is and others can look at the map and see precisely where they're at. Since Allentown is this weekend, groups warm up in the park, across the street in residential neighborhoods, in business parking lots. If I'm looking for a particular group, I spend way too much time walking around and most times can't find them. Also, it would answer the question "Is group x here yet?"

I find it odd that on Saturday, the 2 GE music judges were so far apart on Pacific Crest (1.7 points), while they had every other corps for both Friday and Saturday within a couple tenths.
