  1. box 5 as an adjective. Corps member #1: How's the blue? (drink) Corps member #2: The blue is box 5! half valves shoe and shako runthrough
  2. In 2004 when i first heard about Teal, i doubt you could have talked about world class. They have made leaps and bounds over the last 10 years. I think they are ready for world class competition if not next year then 2010. No one is agruing their competitiveness, the financial side might be the only question. I wouldn't doubt hearing about Teal becoming a member before the end of the year. I hope to see them in Warrenton VA, and I asked the corps director, but if anyone in the corps is reading this now...message me about your housing site for july 31, warrenton virginia. It is not on the website.
  3. Teal Sound members in 05 got the treat of being in DCM championships. That was probably the best retreat "'block" i've ever participated in. Block is used very lightly. I remember us and Blue Stars were representing div 2.
  4. The group formerly known as Turquoise Noise Actually in Teals early days they did a Meteallica show. A prince show would interesting, and fit in with there early identity. But this Rajaton is cool. Next year completes that trilogy. I thank Teal for just introducing me to rajaton. I would have never heard of them until i visited a camp last year. Awesome
  5. Hey matt. So if there is 140 horns, 135 of those must be euphoniums. How do you like those new horns i hear you guys have? Anyway, i'm hoping to see you guys at a rehearsal day on the 6th of july. I just need to know where your staying and if it is near your showsite the following day in chesapeake, va. (Thomas said he would talk to the tour director and get back with me. If you can try and find out give me an pm on here) Unfortunately the navy calls and i won't be able to make the show so i really want to see you guys on your rehearsal day. You guys sound awesome from what i've heard already. Go out out there and show the drum corps world what teal is all about. DON'T PLAY WITH MY EMOTIONS TEAL SOUND!
  6. It seems not even long enough to get them by illegal means. I'm going to make sure that any i wish to buy this season to get during the seasons because if it isn't a world class championship corps it doesn't look like dci intends on keeping it for sale.
  7. After marching 2 years i joined the navy, but unfortunately i can't take advantage of this rule change beacause my first season i could march is 2011 and i would turn 23 on or around finals day. i would love to march 1 more time, and "age out" i didn't know you could attend the age out ceremony at any age or i would have my second year.i did leave one ove my gloves on the retreat field to close my dci tour.
  8. Wow good response. I would've never known about the crossmen being the result of a merger. I think what we are seeing here is that for the most part a merger does not necessarily solve the problems a corps might be facing. Although a few have worked out, it should be considered a last solution. After that, decisions need to be made to keep the organization afloat. Thanks for everyone who answered this question. in the next couple of weeks we get to begin hearing of the first camp hype of how every corps is going to be amazing this year. on of my favorite perennial reading on dcp. Next of course being deciding on the results of finals before the first show, ahh predictions.
  9. Mr Butler is Teal Sound. I personally thank him still for what he did for me and what his corps continues to do for young people. My Drum Corps Hero. Mr blackburn for taking the reigns of Teal and giving this generation the ride of a lifetime i give you props as well.
  10. I might make a trip down there to check out teal's happenings. I'm sure i'll be able to lend a hand somewhere too. Even though i can't audition, the season is still exciting. Love you guys, good luck all around. Thanks mr blackburn for all you do. Thanks also go to mr butler for all he has done for teal. You are my hero. What you guys are doing for young people in the southeast is amazing. TEAL SOUND go do your thing. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS
  11. I was thinking back to 2006 when there was a short period of time where teal and kiwanis briefly discussed merging. The benefit was obvious, teal had members and kiwanis had money. the negotiations fell through when neither wanted to give up their name, uniform or show. So the two went about their season. Teal is still with us today while kiwanis is on my wish list. I want to hear about corps that did or didn't merge and what happened after that.
  12. Drum Corps needs growth and i'm glad to see another junior corps out of florida. exciting. hopefully teal and gasparilla will be able to form a good base foundation to grow upon. i would hate to see either go the way of magic, or kiwanis (pseudo fl corps). I definately look forward to seeing gasparilla. Now we need a couple more open class corps to pop up in the southeast so we can get some big open class shows. With two florida junior corps and heat wave (anyone know there status) we can have local shows again!
  13. Yeah, i saw earlier this year they HAD apds for 2/3 but if you didn't get them then i guess you don't get them at all. or a cd.
  14. Honestly, i don't want every show, as you get out of div 2/3 finals the quality of performance just won't be as good. I usually don't like every show in the top 12. So i'd rather pick and choose. But why can't their be an option. We can't even get open class apds at all can we? Not last time i checked.
  15. Well glad to hear that's where the thomasville came from. More than a simple mistake. Well I support you guys. That is what's important, Even if the city of jacksonville isn't that supportive, it is good hear and know that teal has support in the towns surrounding it and in the area around. Is teal still going to call jacksonville home in 2008 or say another city or town is home? Thanks for what you do randy. I know great things will come next year and in the coming years.
  16. The corps started in Jacksonville in 1998 and 1999. It was known as Jacksonville's best kept secret for a while. The colors, and name obviously, came about from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Like I said before, Teal has connections to brunswick georgia, but that's not more than an hour north of Jax. The corps is from, and started in Jacksonville. I know we played in thomasville before. Past that i don't think there is any other connection.
  17. guess it made it back to dci huh? Jacksonville, AL is understandable. Another corps is from there so it could easily be mistaken. But funny story, hopefully as funny as it was it won' continue. Jacksonville FL is where Teal belongs and hold's it idenity. Keep fighting the good fight guys. Hope to see you guys at a camp i can make it too, and of course shows next year!
  18. You want to compare spartans to blue stars, and use how they performed in 2/3 to show how they will perform in 1 (world), spartans and ecj both beat blue star in 2005. so how can you say they couldn't do the same in world. you underestimate.
  19. A show that wows in open, will still wow in world. Will the make finals, i say no. Do they have a shot at making semis, don't count them out. The main thing is to not be be stagnant after their debut. If they can continue to step their game up year after year, then they can become a staple in the world class. So a better question might be where they will be placing in 5 years after joining world ranks. I was talking to a member of a world finalist corps who didn't seem to like the idea of a division 2 corps being able to bump them out of finals, yet if that show is better why do they deserve that spot? I think this new division naming should be managed in a simialar way to 2/3. All corps are eligable for the world championship. Member corps still get the benefits of being members but when it comes to the field let the best corps win. The open corps who places the highest gets that championship. I'm not saying that any open corps would ever win it all, but give everyone a shot. Even sheets, or at least if you keep seperate sheets, let open corps that would like to, get graded on world sheets when it comes to finals.
  20. According to dci.org and the new corps map, Teal Sound is coming out of Jacksonville, GA. And apparently Jacksonville is right outside of thomasville and quitman. Interesting, go look for yourself. Obviously not a huge deal but an interesting mistake. Now if it was closer to brunswick, teal sound has claimed brunswick (such as the corps jacket), that would be understandable. Everytime i drive through brunswick i rememeber speaches about showering there. "Make sure you shower really well, there are alot of chemicals in the air and we don't know what they might do to your skin." For those that don't know, brunswick is the home of a paper mill that gives one half of the town an overwhelming and unique odor. No smell in the world could bring back better memories, there were "no seconds on summer lunch!" either.
  21. Academy didn't go to finals until they won in 2006. They had amazing scores the previous years but stayed local. I also believe that they simply retained a lot of members like that, went to finals in 06 and dominated then moving up to div 1. I really liked their 07 show at quarters but i didn't really get to see too much of the 06 show since i was competing with it. It sounded amazing from a distance. Anyway, Spartans have continually been at the top for the last few years and Jersey Surf really has changed alot in the past few years to put them at the level they were at in 2007. I'm sure both would be competitive on the world stage, and i would definately put spartans in semis. I would like to Jersey Surf stay in open for another season or two to show year to year competitiveness. You can just submit that request without taking the jump or getting approved. It seems terrible that we would want corps not to make the jump to "save" open class. Corps should always be able to strive for higher. It's not that corps fault that they are strong enough to move up. I hope open class can continue, but you should not think of limiting those corps from becoming member corps to save the other division. Hopefully more "division 3" corps will start up and continue to feed open corps with new faces while world corps can also grow. Imagine quarterfinals being the top 30 or more. Amazing! More corps = more competion. More competition = more innovation and better shows!
  22. Go Teal! Ineteresting random teal sound meeting I returned from deployment just missing teal in va where i could have seen them live, :( . I wish i could've seen the the show a little closer than my computer screen. Well anyways, I did get a chance to go to dci quarter finals theater broadcast and ran into cameron the 2006 mello tech. drum corps is a small community. Well good luck teal, i'll probably try and check you guys out at some camps and hope to see teal not only medal or ring or break the 2005 score record, but accomplish all the goals and make it on to the world stage. (I've been trying to think of a nice uniform redesign when that happens.) If i hadn't joined the navy i would have picked no other corps to age out at than teal. keep fighting, nothing else matters!
  23. Ok 17 pages of reading down. Let's all breathe. It's september, corps haven't even had their banquets or registration for the new season. There is no need to start saying open class shouldn't have a quarterfinals. Some corps from cali might not go to indy, this year, but if they choose not to they will probably still follow the every other year model. They now know where finals are for the next 10 years (minus one) so they can better plan anyway. Alright, corps have been competing together in 2/3 for a while anyway. With the elimination of the gray area, smaller corps don't have to worry about a member cap because they are a d 3. I think you'll start to see around 3 sizes of corps emerge. 1. Close to or full corps. 2. That 60-80 area that was once part of the gray zone. 3. The bare minumum corps that are just trying to put a show out there and hopefully can grow the next year. Those in groups 1 and 2 will be the ones in competition for the title. (most likely)
  24. Show some love to the former champions of our activity, lots of corps fall upon rough times but when they make an effort to come back and do it right who can dog them. Everyone was going crazy with VK fever this season because they came back. Let's show some excitement about ECJ!
