  1. Going back to the original theme of the topic... if I could change anything, I would no longer have three first names!
  2. When I got my car last summer, it came with Sirius. I didn't particularly want it, but after the three month trial period, I was hooked. As a matter of fact, per year, it only costs about the same as, say, a Platinum Membership at dci.org (Although, I would rather have gotten XM: they have all the baseball games, as well as the ACC) Drum Corps Radio...... paging Matt Mingle?
  3. Cuando los exitos de los ochentas, noventas y ahora! Es el verano, vamos a bailar!!!
  4. I believe the judge has discretion to award court costs in civil cases. And... the system we have is actually based on the English system of common law and stare decisis (using previous court decisions for legal precedent. I think the judge awarded costs to the dry cleaners... and the cleaners are now suing Mr. Pants for about 70k. And they WILL win. And they WILL see an increase in business. Now if only Mr. Pants could be disbarred...
  5. My girlfriend nails me on this one every time I stick my foot in my mouth around her family. Everything I do reflects on her, both the good and bad. The more that concept is in the front of your mind, it follows, the less often you're sticking your foot in your mouth. You don't need to be wearing a uniform to represent your corps/upbringing/family/etc. Remember that, and... heck, I'm preaching to the choir
  6. Research? Bah! Nick, I'm embarrassed for you! And yeah, shows without a retreat (and usually, with a canned national anthem) are a cop-out, IMHO.
  7. Someone hit on this point (or a very close approximation of it) in another thread, talking about the "sense of entitlement" that's crept its way into the world. Is there maybe some correlation between how much you've participated in the activity and how much (or how little) sense of entitlement you have? Since we're on the subject of appealing to reason.... (my favorite way of phrasing a question in 3...) Discuss.
  8. I've got good company backing me up! Tommy Thompson, former governor of Wisconsin, Secretary of Health & Human Services, presidential candidate Harold "Robby" Robinson, Crossmen hall-of-famer (I've actually stopped going by Nate professionally, but I was still Nate back in my corps days ) Berps? Is that what they're called?
  9. I liked the siren the Cadets used in 02. You know, the one at the very end, courtesy of the Madison FD truck in the parking lot. :lolhit:
  10. ALL CAPS ADN SPEELIGN!! OMG Wait... not about Drum Corps Planet? Oooohhhh. I'm not a big fan of those silly little black plastic tubes some of the trumpets use... stabilizers, I think? They look, well, kind of silly. I think our trumpets used nuts to serve the same purpose. ... The mechanical kind, sicko.
  11. We shared our spring training site with them in 02. One particular memory we had was of their long ranger drifting over into our brass sectional during a quick water break. "THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING MOMENT IN DCI!!!" And they began to rehearse the part in Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy where the hornline does the high-lift running around the field. I've always seen them as a little on the "different" side of things. Zigging when everyone else zags, and they just flat out know how to PERFORM. They are "a great, great pleasure" to watch. :P
  12. Vocal amen, in spite of 1 point penalty. I think we had pulled pork/bbq early on tour in 02, in South Carolina. A day or two before the first show, if I remember. (Didn't '03 have a crawfish boil? Kyle?)
  13. It was like that in 02 too... we stalled out at 83 for like two weeks, and the fans at DCI East in Philadelphia were LIVID. You guys were there, you remember :P Fuel for the fire.
  14. Cadets and Crown. Saw them both at Giants Stadium. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting much out of either corps. Crown really melted some faces. With all the narration controversy, I was ready to write off the Cadets as a microphone section with background music, but WOW! The hornline is just undeniably loud. A pleasant surprise :)
  15. Matt... what did you do to the other 100 kids? Are you hiding them in the food truck? :P Unfortunately, the auditions and rejections are a side effect of how $@&($! expensive it is to run a corps. Otherwise, you'd have a lot more units fielded, and thus more open spots. Concentration of talent will do that. Do D2 and D3 corps have this problem too? With having to turn away locals who want in?
  16. First year on tour? If I remember correctly, I saw them at Quarters in Orlando, 2003. I was impressed with them, they had their composure together. Now... how do you get from California to Central Florida without touring.... .... Dude! I want your teleportation machine!
  17. Carl306... Would that be anything like... "BALLINBb?" (Do the Gmen still sell their "BORINBb: We took the G out of boring" shirts?)
  18. Not really sure. We shared a housing site with them a couple of times in 02, and I don't remember them being exactly friendly to us. Maybe it's from marching around with their elbows all puffed up :-D In all seriousness, tho, a friend of mine marched BAC in 97. I'm not a hater. I really wanted to like this show, saw it at Giants Stadium. I had a hard time getting around the fact that I felt like I'd seen this show and heard the arrangement before. I wasn't in love with it, and it didn't exactly rip me out of my seat. Still, they did have some loud moments. Also, I don't think they've put in the hit from Conquest, which disappointed me. I wanted to yell the grunts! (maybe that's why my memory is blurry?)
  19. Completely flat feet here. The shin splints were a JOY all summer long. Rockthebus, if only I had known that when I marched! Would have been worth a shot.
