  1. Court of honor- Ya know i wasn't really into the show the first time I saw it in Oklahoma City but after seeing it in Denver at semis. That show was pretty cool. I guess I needed to get a second showing to see it all . Great kids all of them. They were a delight to be around in the stadium as well as on the field. Can't wait to see em next year. Watch out this is one of THE up and coming corps in div 3
  2. Well, I have to start off by saying that I marched in a division 1 corps but have been instructing a smaller division 3 corps the past 2 years. This year was an amazing year for division 2/3. I personally enjoyed the 2/3 shows at city stadium a ton more then div. 1 at invesco. so heres some quick reviews from some of the shows I saw. Fusion- A great year for these kids I deifnetely see them in at least semis next year if not higher. Lehigh- These kids did a great job with an pretty difficult program both musically and visually. bandettes- Again a solid brass line and a very well put together show. I think the guard really pushed them up this year. great job girls. Raiders- another challenging show but a solid performance throughout. Teal Sound- say anything you want about dream theatre but these kids were working it from start to finish. That drumline was amazing for this level. can't wait to see them again next year even stronger. Yamato- By far the best visual performance of the week reguardless of division in my opinion. I know im gonna hear flack from the cavie fans but I don't care. Yamato was the best marching group in denver this year hands down. A great program put on the field by this multi-continental ensemble. solid brass and drumlines, great guard. Oregon Crusaders- Well what else could you say about them. They were the hands down champions in div 3 this year. great brass line solid visual and guard work. Can't wait to see them next year. DIVISION 2- Memphis- a very good sound out of their brass line this year. pretty good design overall. I think they could make a significant jump next year with some more quality people in that corps. BDB- A solid group this year. I gotta admit the blue devils reguardless of division all have that same aura when they enter the field. A great guard as well from this corps. nicely done. Impulse- Just a great group of kids to watch and be around. solid performances all week. oh and if you didnt get a chance to see them in I&E they had some great performers. Bluestars- WOOOOOOOWWWWW!!! This show just kicks A@@ nuttin more to say. that drumline is amazing and the brass line was great as well. Definetely one of my top 2 shows of the summer. Give them another year or so and the rings will dtart piling up if they stay in div 2, but I can't wait to see them back in the div. 1 ranks. 3-2-1- lets jam... Spartans- I found this show hard to get into. The medusa show was very well put together on both the musical and visual side but i just didn't get into it much. East Coast Jazz- My favorite show of the year hands down. I don't know what you feed those soprano players but they are just monsters. I think they could hang with any div 1 line in the activity this year. An interesting approach to the familiar music of chick corea. I was very pleased they took those peices and made them their own and didn't try to emulate other corps renditions of the pieces. so all in all a great stadium to have div 2-3 in. Honestly I could care less about Invesco this year. I think all the action happened at all city. The fans had that stadium packed all week for those shows and it was great. Rankings in my opinion div 3 1. oregon crusaders 2- yamato 3. Teal Sound 4. Court Of Honor 5. Raiders 6. LVK 7. Fusion 8. Americanos 9. Dutch Boy 10. Marian Glory Cadets Div. 2 1. East Coast Jazz 2. Blue Stars 3. Vanguard Cadets 4. Spartans 5. Fever 6. Impulse 7. Memphis Sound 8. Jersey Surf 9. BDB

  6. Personally on Mellophone I felt that the wynton marsalis carnaval collection has some great solos. I used the grand russian fantasia. it had some great cadenzas in it. a good selection t olook at.
  7. Blue Devils and Phantom, just raw power and intensity
  8. My drum corps history starts in 1987 so forgive me for missing some of those grest lines from the earlier days. 1. Star of Indiana 1992 2. Blue Devils 1993 3. Santa Clara Vanguard 1998 4. Cadets of Bergen County 1997 5. Blue Devils 1994 6. Cavaliers 2000 7. Santa Clara Vanguard 1987 8. Crossmen 1992 9. Boston Crusaders 2000 10. Star Of Indiana 1991
  9. I don't see pioneer or madison going for some time. I think that troopers will break sooner.
  10. I would have to say that star 92 and madison 95 are two of my favorites of that era. I would also like to add in bd 95 as one of the best along with cadets 2000 and 96.
  11. I have one of those diverse backgrounds as well. I started at age 4 on saxophone then picked up percussion at the age of 10. I played both of them extensively through junior high. Upon entering high school. I went into auxillary percussion for winter line and was bari sax in the top wind ensemble and jazz ensemble. I picked up mellophone my sophmore year and took my mello to my first corps audition in 95. I had only been playing a few days when I went so i got cut pretty fast. Madison was pretty toght back then. I worked on it and went on to march two years as lead mello in a div 1 corps as well as placing in the top five in I and E at dci both years. not bad for a sax/percussionist. I went on to take lessons on sax/brass/and percussion in college. So I guess it works well for me to be multiversed about the whole musical world.
  12. The most influential instructors in my history would come down to four men. First of which is Jason Reinhart. He started as our mello tech at pioneer in 1996, I finally had him as my tech in the 1999 season with a line of 27 total horns. He took that small ensemble of youngsters and made us great at what we did. He will always have my respect and admiration for his hard work and dedication . Second of all would be John Whitlock III. He was a visual caption head at Pioneer for a few years. He was really involved in the mental aspect of the preperation for shows. A great teacher and innovator of that program. Third would be Pete Harvey, another visual guy from pioneer. Pete was the one who would take the entire line out and track us for four hours through the scorching heat of the texas suburbs. He was hated by all at that time but as soon as we stopped and realized how much better it was for us, we had nothing but admiration for his determination to take us forward. Last but not least would be Donny Allen, not always the most well liked man but he was a legend in his own right. Much love and respect for what he did for us. Pioneer Mello 1999-2000
  13. STAR 1992 was the sickest book I have ever seen Cadets 1998 ballad Blue Devils 1994 had some sick stuff throughout Blue devils 1993 had even sicker stuff Star 1991 need we say more
