  1. Are DCA finals always held on the east coast? Do DCA corps come to the west coast to compete? Is DCA really affiliated with DCI or is it more of a red-haired cousin kinda deal? I know theres a DCA website, but looking at the DCI website I didn't see an affiliation.
  2. And here I thought having such an ethnic name was bad. This from the DCI website - Cadets founder thrilled to see corps perform for first time since 1946 DCI.org’s Michael Boo had the pleasure of meeting with John Baumfalk during the last part of the DCI World Championships Quarterfinals on Aug. 9, 2007 in Pasadena, Calif. Baumfalk co-founded the Holy Name Cadets in 1934, was the corps’ first drum major and was also the corps’ first horn instructor, despite having no formal musical training................
  3. I feel the same way... as well with sabers on the field unless they're in a tight formation and all utilizing the same movements). WGI is a smaller, nearer venue than stadium viewing. They can pull it off for that reason (BTW... nice video clip.. I enjoyed it).
  4. 'Mistress Kelli' made the below quote in the Drum Corps Family thread - It made me wonder how drum corp (dci/dca or both) has changed others lives (in small or big ways). What are your experiences/stories of how DC changed your life or the life of someone close to you?
  5. both will be having their finals in Indianapolis, Indiana.
  6. I was completely moved by Anaheim's performance for many reasons. The numbers they fielded represented loyalty, history and certainly pride. I can't remember when I've witnessed such dignity. That said, if they were a competing corps, the number would have gotten in the way. The moderate increase to 150 is cool... 15 people are going to make some corps look gigantic(!).. but more than that might just make things messy looking. I applaud DCI - it's a wise business decision and can only benefit drum corps.
  7. How many of you folks have brothers or sisters who also marched? .. and I suppose theres been plenty of time for peeps to have das and mums who have marched too... any of them?
  8. man oh man... am i thick or what. It's like fantasy football?
  9. My Webpage There we go.. it wasn't Marion afterall. My apologies. (well I'm batting 0 tonight... the 'my webpage' link goes to the other topic where i got the scores....)
  10. thats quite possible. I found the scores and relived the memory when I did a search in the 'old photos' topic under 'Mark Twain Cadets'. It also could be that I have the year wrong.
  11. I've seen the title around a bit.. but have no idea what Fantasy Drum Corps League is. Please explain the difference between Fantasy Drum Corps League and Drum Corps. Thank you for your time - mick
  12. here's a ritual my friends and I have as spectators. We buy 2 bottles of water (for the 4 of us), take a razor and cut just below the neck of the bottle (as you can't bring un-opened water bottles into a stadium). Drain it of the water, and fill it with vodka.. then at the show we order cokes to lace. hey - after i pay a half a grand for 4 tickets, I'll be danged if imma buy $7 beers! (while I'm at it, I should start a post about how mis-managed the Pasadena Rose Bowl crew was!)
  13. DANGITALL - I go out for a couple hours and see what happens. I miss the good stuff! THATS IT! from here on in the dogs are gonna have to hold it even longer!
  14. My nearest guess would be 73, Keith. I think the rifle line was co-ed in 74 and the corps much bigger.

  16. some are good memories, some are awful. At Marion Ohio, my corps (at the time *drum roll please* The Mark Twain Cadets!) was small but mighty. Back then we did short-shows for prelims. Ours went over-time and we were penalized (maybe 2 points?) which placed us in 13th. Man alive, I was one heart broken little guy. (list stolen from poster uncle z) 8/5/1975 Class "A" Marquis 73.00 Gauchos 66.80 Greece Cadets 66.35 Black Knights 62.00 Glassmen 61.95 Royal Knights 61.25 Floridians 60.95 Flying Dutchmen 60.40 Kingsmen 60.15 Charioteers 59.95 Wausau Story 59.45 Caballeros 55.20 Mark Twain Cadets 54.65 Krescendos 51.45 Saginaires 50.65 76ers 50.20 American Patrol 45.15 Sundowners 44.80 Windjammers 44.05 Silver Sabres 43.85 Patriots 40.45 Princemen 37.00 Bluewater Buccaneers 37.00 84th Volunteer Bucktail Regiment 35.00 Mighty Liberators 34.25 Sabre Cadets 31.90 Voyageurs 30.50
  17. Ah. That threw me off (but I can be overly literal at times).
  18. I think I must have missing genes or something.. because I can't get my head around why anyone would want to practice and toil (a rewarding part of the process) without taking it to the limit (i.e. DCA finals); without the ultimate goal in mind. What is it one strives for if not to compete? Parades? I mean I get it with Alumni corps.. but why field a competitive corps if not to compete on the highest level you can?
  19. 84BDsop - what are your ideas? what's your philosophy for the corps?
