  1. surf did have a very nice line but i thought their show just really lacked something. I haven't heard their show but the guys from memphis seemed like great kids and probably played just as well
  2. I am Biased towards my own corps... but thats my opinion. I want to hear what others think.
  3. who do you think had the best low brass sections in open class. Whether it be bari/euph or Contra specifically or the whole section i wanna know who you think was the best of 07 and who you think will be best in 08?
  4. In open class, check out the spartans 07. The Dvd really shows alot of the good visual things you can do there. THey were a real great section that came a LONG way that season.
  5. I must say fire of eternal glory. I love amazing grace but fire has some special meaning to me. It was our corps song for the corps i marched with (not PR). WHat a beautiful piece!
  6. THe drum line was talking while the visual guys were working with the hornline. Drum line ended up tracking for about 3 hours. through grape vineyard... Not through the paths in the middle. through the bushes and plants. THe line game was always fun too. Start on the goal line run to the 5 run back run to the 10 back, 15, etc. only had to do that a couple times. made it to the 30 though... not fun...
  7. i must this is quite an interesting discussion? i dont think we ever would see a sex related suit.. along teh same lines as somebody else mentioned if the discrimination were along race lines/ if the mandarins say declined a white man membership because he was white what would the implications be...
  8. ok ok ok.... lets keep this corps related. My intent in asking this was what specifically keeps them from a lawsuit... Not whether blacks and whites should have been segregated... please stay on topic... thats not a discussion to get into here
  9. i didnt march that year but a friend of mine who was in spartans (open class) 04 was telling me that the baritones that year had section shirts that had a picture of the brass caption head smiling. Under the picture it said "the root of all evil"
  10. how do these 2 corps manage to not continually have civil rights suits against them for only allowing male members. Is there a law protecting them or do we just not hear about these types of law suits? It seems today that if you look at someone the wrong way they can sue you. What's keeping some of our favorite corps out of hot water?
  11. any other thought.. Brass line sounding good?
  12. If im thinking of the same Wayne Bergeron, he was a lead trumpet for Maynard ferguson for a while? is this correct. I believe he just did a concert here in maine a few days ago. My band director went to see him. No matter the loss of any drum corps parent is always a sad one.
  13. in all honesty do the specifics really matter??? the spartans having a rebuild year. There was probably some conflict of interest somewhere along the line.. but what does it matter? its already happened? the spartans reloading for another great season, cant we just leave it at that?
  14. corpswhores.......... not like we had any of those...... oh yea... did anyone say tour goggles yet?
  15. i actually wrote a term paper for my english class on phantom regiment and how they are "the best of second place" ... it was the best grade i got the whole semester lol
  16. there has been other threads about the spartans which you can look up if you i wish. I think it probably would be the best decision for the sake of this discussion to not go down that road... If you really want to know you should pm somebody who is or was involved with the program or look up some of the older threads. i know im not the O.P. , but i would like to ask to all of the other posters here to keep the discussion focused on their upcoming 2008 season... not past events. Considering the original question was about how they are currently and looking into the future. This is coming from a personal stand point as somebody who is very close to the spartan organization and has seen how quickly threads like this can spiral out of control.
  17. well it would be nice to hear that they are on par with cavies but thats not what i was expecting. Thanks though
  18. i may be wrong, but Hrothgars post just MIGHT have been a little something called SARCASM
  19. again i dont know exactly how many, but from what i understand they are in a very good position considering the numbers they have and a completely new staff.
  20. Im curious what the people in the know about guard performances thought of the spartans 2007 in comparison to the divison 1's. How would their colorguard have stacked against the cavaliers or cadets guard. They did score a 19.9 which obviously is amazing, i just wanna know comparisons
