  1. 2007 The Cadets - Just for the hornline. I want them to crank the surround up like hell 2007 Carolina Crown 2006 Phantom Regiment 2005 The Cadets 2005 Phantom Regiment 2005 Bluecoats
  2. Yes with a Gino hornline, place a groundhog in a tuba, have him play triple forte and launch the sucker into the audience. Lucky view catches it. I can see it now.
  3. http://www.yea.org/site/R?i=v1QS_s4pZyS1CnaJL0pRdg.. Check out this video of The Cadets' camp video with commentaries of their 2008 production, including Narration comments straight from George Hopkins. Enjoy!
  4. Why do I think it's not gonna be that big of a deal?
  5. It's not like DCI would have lasted any longer without the rule changes. I don't think the incurring macroeconomic trends lately would have been nice to Drum Corps even with the most traditional approach to drum corps. Gas prices soaring, tuition costs of school, pressure to work, and much more.
  6. Glancing at 2005 Cadets Color Guard, is some absolutely phenomenal stuff. There hasn't been a guard today to do the reflective book like they did in their ballad. You just need to take a look at their poles as they dash across the field to see their excellent understanding of their book and technique. Amazing. Guards these days, it's much harder to compare to the 1990s, and even 1980 and further back guards. These kids move much more, stand around less, and are more prompt for General Effect rather than pure spinning. It kind of corresponds with the evolution of WGI. Cadets and Blue Devils of the 1990s, whew, those members didn't give a darn, they just spun like crazy. It's now much more mentally crafted, the activity as a whole, especially with the color guard. Staging is absolutely huge these days. While it was stressed in years past, it's much more important factor today. Staging means, much more moving from Point A to Point B. Thus, it's much harder to clean. You don't find a lot of guard features at complete holds anymore (at least not in the top 6 designing).
  7. This post is very good. It is completely out of date, yet it elegantly reminds anyone who might, god forbid, suddenly forget your position on the last few years and current direction of The Cadets. Excellent.
  8. 1997 Cadets - Celebration  What a hornline. I swear I've never heard this many runs, notes, and articulations for any hornline. And these guys had some pretty crazy drill. Just check out the end of the opener. And that one line, where the hornline is so perfectly covered down on the yardline, that they almost hide away. Is it me, or is this show not praised enough
  9. Cavaliers Director Fiedler retires from position after 17 years Wow!
  10. 1989 - Santa Clara Vanguard, Phantom Regiment, Garfield Cadets, absolutely amazing year for performers. 1991 - Star of Indiana with their phenomenal ending, The Cavaliers won hearts with their music and shear power with their visual program. The Cadets again, reshaped the face of Drum Corps design. Blue Devils put together a powerful combination of performance and just shear brass. 1993 - Star of Indiana placed themselves as the most talked about silver medalist corps ever with their avant-garde program. The Cadets defied the ideas of marching speeds. Phantom Regiment saw streamers fall from every direction as they blasted the stadium away with an awesome brassline. 2000 - The Cavaliers begin their championship dynasty with an amazing finals performance. This would begin the Cavaliers excellence in drill design for the next few years. The Cadets made the audience clap almost every single second, featuring soloists, fast paced drill, amazingly difficult music, tricks and stunts. Blue Devils placed an amazing music selection, absolutely dark and delightful, and wow did they march the heck out of it. Santa Clara Vanguard performed a very emotional show on the field with a beautiful subtle ending. Boston Crusaders enter the top 5 with a phenomenal spanish influenced show. 2003 - Blue Devils win it again with an awesome set of songs. Wow what a clean show, amazingly performed at that. The Cavaliers redefine forever the concept of fireworks on the field. The Cadets perform possibly the cleanest bronze medalist show ever, winning over multiple mid-show standing ovations. Santa Clara Vanguard placed a highly intricate show with some great music and Phantom Regiment reenter the top 5 as a solid crowd pleaser with an excellent set of songs. 2007 - The Cadets have brought the most controversial and one of the most difficult show to date, not to mention their best visual program yet. It's been quite a while since there's been a corps that marched as fast and played as loud with such a ###### off attitude. Whether it was the music or just the members, I smelled a bit of anger comin from them. Phantom Regiment put together an amazing music composition, Carolina Crown won the crowd, and Blue Devils just performed the heck out of their show. Bluecoats creep up with an awesome brassline and attractive design. Santa Clara Vanguard proves that they're in the hands of a powerful new drill designer. Wow. What an awesome year.
  11. And. We have multiple reasons why The Cadets are probably the largest talk of Drum Corps International. Whatever they do, whether you like them or not, they certainly get attention better than anyone else.
  12. The SPF 50-60 types do not absorb in the short term very well. Put it on 30 minutes prior to you going outside. If you're sweating, chances are that your not going absorb the content. If it's a burn that's one thing, but if it's Sun Poisoning, that can be extremely serious, especially in the long run. If you darken/tan with the sun, your chances of sun poisoning will dramatically be decreased. If you stay pale, then, I'd have to agree Drum Corps may not be for you. Remember to keep your health over everything else.
  13. Eh eh hey hey, none of this. This isn't accounting. It's merchandise.
  14. Don't even need to hear numerous petitions for that! Humans just don't like change.
  15. Yeah this is so corps can just jump out of shows and leave for the next housing site on time.
  16. I feel as though members who marched shows with narration, won't care if it's used or not. Old time members and current audience members may care, but I still find them coming to shows. Or at least the majority of them.
  17. No it's not a valid assumption, but he is right. It is an implicit endorsement in the world of contract, politics, and business. Your name's on it, it goes back to you!
  18. Yeah but that's a safety - design - safety related issue. In any competitive activity, Safety and Health are on a COMPLETELY different discussion. How does amplification pose the obvious risk of harming someones health? When was there a crisis that amps would blowup or cause heart attacks towards the traditionalist aged drum corps fan? I don't think a rule proposal for gasoline will really be in effect because of the obvious risks.
  19. I don't know what's really up for that much discussion. This doesn't seem like a slippery slope. It's just a 6 month bump.
  20. Ticheli voiced word and personal approval for the Cadets to use his music. He did back in finals for the Cadets before they went on.
  21. Okay well to me the truth is (and I'm not showing favorites). The Cadets - George Hopkins - DCI 9 Time world Champion, current world record sharer BlueStars - Brad Furlano (Kviz) - .... Something will speak louder in the future. The really harsh but sad truth is, the majority of the drum corps community, in the long run, will not give much credence or care for corps that aren't in the top corps, or more or less these days (Blue Devils, The Cadets, The Cavaliers, Phantom Regiment, Santa Clara Vanguard, Carolina Crown, or Bluecoats). The association with the staff goes with the title and placements of the corps. People will talk way more about 2006 Cadets than 2005 Blue Devils, even though 2005 Blue Devils contained way more narration. No one will mention Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Bluecoats etc... of using narration, but when the Cadets do, all hell breaks loose and it'll seem like a surprise for DCP Timothy Kviz's proposal is in the wrong grounds for his constituents: basically, most of the BoD voted to approve amps, and the top 12 is rampant with the use of them now. Some directors want to experiment using amps, the usage of amps is an option, not a requirement.
  22. More like "Be optimistic about it, no need to start bashing until you've seen it"
  23. I don't like this imposing rule change. It's too extreme. Just because the BlueStars do not want to use narration, why should the other corps experimenting or choosing to use it be forced to compromise their design. Amplification is an option in my opinion. Limiting is limiting. Blue Devils, The Cadets, The Cavaliers, Phantom Regiment, Santa Clara Vanguard, Carolina Crown are all using it... Just because I don't want to use it, shouldn't mean that others can't.
  24. I don't like rule proposals that limit everyone from doing what they want.
