  2. Here comes Texas with another strong corps! Bout time! I predict top 5 in Open Class. B)
  3. Well, that's one way to force kids to make a decision. Can't camp hop very easily here can you?
  4. Spartans. Madison and the other World Class semifinalists get their air time at the theaters. I think to be fair you should spread the wealth and let the Open Class corps be seen. People would be shocked at what they see and the level of prestige for Open Class would shoot through the roof...making more money for DCI in the process because now that people know that there are full size corps in Open Class with big name designers programing state of the art shows, more will want to buy tickets to Open Class events and buy DVDs and other merch from the Open Class activity. And by the way, if you want to see what influenced the author of this thread to start it, go here... http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...howtopic=105814
  5. First, I think Spartans would have been very comparable to Madison this past season...and maybe even beat them had they been in World Class. Second, Madison already has their air time in the Movie theaters. Let the Open Class have something too please!
  6. But see that's the thing. If you give the top corps in Open Class a chance to be seen nationally, they WILL HAVE a name. I can see 15th place Madison in the theaters. I (as I random spectator) want to see what is happening in the Division that does not get air time anywhere.
  7. I would say making the top 2 in Open Class is quite the thing that can only be "EARNED". It certainly is more than just showing up. But continue to deny if you wish.
  8. BULL! Magic proved MORE than you want to admit. You are just in demial! See, there you go again. Negative...negative...negative. Can't say ANYHTING positive about the current Open Class activity. I'm beginning to think you are jealous. It's the only excuse I can give you for being the most negative person on this board regarding the new Open Class. And before you try to bring the "I'm being realistic" excuse up...NO...you are not because clearly...you are in DENIAL about what corps like Magic, Academy, Blue Stars Captiol regiment have proved (add to that list Spartans and Surf if they move up).
  9. Way to take what was intended to be something positive and spit on it, Tom! What is with you? It seems like any time I or anyone on this board say something positive about the change of events in Open Class, you have to follow it up with something negative that implies the whole thing is going to fail. Are you WANTING it to fail or something? Are you bitter about something? Are you just jealous of the current Open Class model because deep down you are afraid it MIGHT be better than what you were involved in once? I don't get it! Everything off your keypad is nothing but "no, this won't work"...."naahhh, it's going to fail". The funny thing is, you were proved wrong just days ago when this thing passed because you admited to being "skeptical" that the idea would be bought into and pass. Why don't you try having SOME faith in the system and in the current directors who are implementing these new ideas that JUST MAYBE...it MIGHT work! And no, I disagree. The current top corps in Open Class BLOW what was in Division II/III in the mod 90s by a LONNNNG shot! Those corps didn't even have more than 30 horns on the field. Today you have corps with between 50-70 horns who m ake a push for World Class finals when they move on. Don't tell me it's no different than 1995. That's delusional!
  10. It's about "finalists", is it not? It's about those that have made it to the top! Well, why not feature the top of BOTH divisions and if a corps really wants coverage badly enough, apply for the division that would most likely get you that coverage and you can earn it. But even if that's not valid, all of the world class 13-17 placing corps get some GREAT airtime already. Quarterfinals are broadcast in movie theaters...THE WHOLE SHOWS! The Open Class finalists get NOTHING (some of which ARE BETTER than some of those 13-17 placing corps without a doubt)! All I'm suggesting is 15-20 seconds of the top two from Open class. I'm not asking for an entire hour of coverage! And again, they USED to do this anyway...why can't they do it again? I really don't think it's asking much.
  11. Wow! Seems like a pretty amitious list for a corps like Jester. Not trying to dog them...but wow!
  12. Unfortunately, I was not there this year. So I never got one.
  13. I answered "no". DCI is for the youth. DCA exists for adults who wish to continue marching (and there is nothing wrong with that). The two activities should remain separate.
  14. I'm not surprised. VK used to be copied all the time. I don't see why they wouldn't be again now that they are back. Lets face it...what VK does is just plain attractive!
  15. You know...I just want to say this. I've got high hopes for you guys this year! I don't know why. I'm just feeling it for OC.
  16. Awsome! :) I assume "Teal Sound"? Very cool! Great corps! And see people...here is a drum corps KID who has a certain level of excitement for his Open Class corps because of the new label for the division. PROVING....that the new system is ALREADY working! Less kids blowing this side of the activity off and insted becoming excited about auditioning for an Open Class corps is a good sign. :)
  17. I can't see two separate broadcasts. Costs too much. And I don't think I would like it if they did that because an exclusive Open Class broadcast would lower the leve prestige which is the opposite of what I hope for. Like I said on an earlier post. The broadcast is listed as "The DCI Championships". Open Class is part of that event, why not include a couple of the Open Class finalists in there as well?
  18. from bluestars.org This corps is going to be SOLID this year. I predict top 10! B)
  19. Yes indeed. Drumcat, how about admitting here that you were in error about Regional Division I being no more? :P
  20. If this was the reason DCI is using the stadium for Open Class, why are they NOT using it on "Thursday" (which you mentioned was a day they had it rented out) for the Open Class Quarterfinals too then? Uh...I think you might be making some assumptions. Not going to totally write this idea off...but it sounds like maybe only part of the story...if not a complete blind assumption based on some hearsay. Worth checking out further though. I don't think you can use Madison as an example. I know the crows was pretty small in comparison to the size of the stadium. Which is why I think they wouldn't be doing this ever again unless they knew they could fill it more than that with the new Open Class system in place.
  21. Yeah, I really think though that it would be better (and not that hard) to include a short highlight. Heck, ok...maybe lets not give them the full 30-50 seconds the 11 and 12 placing corps get. How about 15-20...REAL short. Something just to show what's going on. The level of prestige for Open Class would shoot through the roof if they did.
  22. Actually, that's not exactly true. The difference between the World Class and Open Class sheets is basically a 10 point handicap. Which means that a 95 in Open Class is equil to an 85 in World Class. And lest anyone think that is a myth (which can be myth busted anyway if you just look at the sheets themselves and compare the numbers), Magic proved this in 2002 (which was the last year a Division II corps was allowed to compete in the Division I Championship activities). I also think Academy proved this pretty weel considering they were right about the same level both in 06 and 07 (some suggesting 06 possibly being a little better) and their 06 score was a 95 and their 07 score was a high 84. With that in mind, it's very safe to assume that the top Open Class corps are very close to the level of a DCI finalist...so why can't they have a shot at some TV time. And I'm only talking a few seconds here. Not much to ask in the grand scheme of things.
