  1. But, what if Moby Dick gets harpooned at the end of Boston's show and the Wellerman or the Billy 'O Tea takes that whale in tow, then how do we know who won the show?! If you're going to make suggestions like that, you've gotta think this thing through! 🀣
  2. It's a necessary evil to manage time, especially for the butt sore spectators who would have to sit in those awful bleachers for hours on end. If I recall correctly it will be the exact same judging panel both nights. They'll know who's better than who.
  3. Remember my friends, Blue Devils did not win DCI East. at least not yet. They won the night. Saturday night's scores will be combined with tonight's scores. There are still a couple of corps BC and CC who may have something to say about who wins this thing. πŸ‘ 😎
  4. It should be against DCP Terms and Conditions to mention the Troopers 🀠 and not use this --> 🀠 emoticon. Troopers 🀠 πŸ‘ 😎
  5. To the announcer of the scores: Don't worry about the placements, just give us the name of the corps and their score. We'll take it from there. 😎
  6. I like seeing the kid's faces on multi-cam but good grief, you're right. In all of drum corps visual moments, that's the one "can't miss" of the season.
  7. Flo: for goodness sake, when the blue Devils form their Matisse star stay on high camera. Stay on it until the Matisse star disappears and then reappears. I know you’ve proud of your multi cam, but stay on high camp for this one. It’s the highlight of the DCI season. Thank you very much. don’t blow this.
  8. Cavaliers! Another show that has really grown on me this year. Percussion has taken them this far. Can the horns and guard take them up a notch?
  9. I like everything about Troopers show. One of my favorites this year. It's so easy to follow the theme with proper music, marching and show design. No narration is the epitome of a great show design. I can see why their percussion is scoring so well, it's not just that they play like crazy the staging for the battery is top notch.
  10. Due to the lack of traditional uniforms these days, sometimes it's hard to tell who a corps is when they take the field. Enter, the Troopers!
  11. I liked Pacific Crest the first time I saw them this year. I like them now. I hope they win. πŸ‘ 😎
  12. Completely non-affiliated un-biased opinion: You keep using the word "you." Any time the word "you" is used the discussion becomes personal. Whatever points you are trying to make should address issues, not people. I would not have interfered in something which is non of my business but you did ask a legitimate question and I hope a neutral voice might be helpful to further open discussion and keep the thread open. Disclaimer: ( I never marched in a DCI corps and I don't know anybody at DCI or in any corps in any capacity)
  13. Interesting theory. I like it. πŸ‘ 😎
  14. Oh, come on. Atlas doesn't rise...does he? Don't tell me I've got some more research to do to understand Cadets' show? πŸ™„
  15. I went Friday Saturday last year. I think I waited on Friday for about a half-hour to get a drink and a french fry. 8-10 bucks I think, it might have been more. I learned my lesson and on Saturday I ate before entered the stadium. They have water fountains for free.
  16. It's cold in there, you can actually feel the cool air blow across your seats. Wear a jacket, you can always take it off. Take a hat, like a ball cap. The ceiling lights are super bright and it actually cuts down on contrast when viewing the corps. I wore a cap the second day and it made my viewing experience so much better. A lightweight hat with a foldable brim is perfect. Food is super expensive for what you get and the service is ridiculously slow leading to long lines. Leading to you missing some of the corps performances. You don't need to take a seat cushion. The seats are padded all around and are very comfortable. Take cash and be prepared to pay $20 for parking. Buy your souvenir shirts early in your trip. By finals everything is picked over, out of stock and not-your-size.
  17. I was checking the DCI Rankings page. I love that thing, always up-to-the-minute. The Cadets are now the 4th highest ranked corps with the highest Most Recent score after tonight's competition at 92.3. The fifth highest Most Recent score at 92.05 is the Boston Crusaders. https://www.dci.org/scores/rankings
  18. 1982 was my first "in love" moment with the Cadets as well. I saw them in Huntington, West Virginia along with the defending 1981 DCI champs, the Santa Clara Vanguard. It turns out this was the first time the Garfield Cadets had ever beaten Santa Clara as Garfield brought the house down and won the show. The Bridgemen were third. The very knowledgeable crowd was stunned. I became a fan. There's actually a backstory after the Cadets victory involving the Bridgemen who were complete jerks and Vanguard, who did nothing wrong. No-class and class respectively.
  19. To a degree you are correct in the last sentence but discussion here has not been precise when using that word "abuse." As a former mental health professional I've been pondering that lack of precise language throughout this entire thread. I worked with abusers and victims of abuse as a therapist. I will leave that as a vague description if you don't mind. Regarding the term "abuse." There is physical abuse. From the MH perspective It has its own treatment plan different from the other abuses I am about to mention. This is punishable by law and is never confused with the other two mentioned here. There is mental abuse. There are specific instances in law which are very different from the other two. MH treatment for mental or emotional abuse is also separate from the others. There is sexual abuse. In my state "sexual abuse" again is not a singular offense. There are ten different levels the law deals with which I will not get into here except generally. This goes from external touching of sexual places outside the clothing to forced penetration by digits, ##### or an object. There are so many issues here, the concerns for the former victims, concern reagarding the organization, ie, what did they know and when did they know it? And lastly in this brief overview, what is to be done about it? Should the organization legally end because the crimes committed were irredeemable? I don't intend to publicly comment further because this is not my business and because I feel there are sufficient people who were affected who are trying to make sense of all this. I feel they and other oversight organizations should proceed as they see fit. Brief Endnote: The Boy Scouts of America are just now settling for millions of dollars with victims of sexual abuse. This took place the last 50 years and it was nationwide. The BSA has now reorganized itself as The Scouts and the organization lives on. The point being is that at least one organization has gone through a similar situation and has survived to try to fulfill their organization's mission. I am not suggesting that solution in this case, I don't have an opinion on that. I'm just saying that surviving as an organization is possible. I apologize in advance to everybody reading this if I have offended or opened my mouth when it may have been better to keep my mouth shut. -Dave
  20. I didn't know they used tape anymore...πŸ€“
  21. Got any numbers for me for the BILLION dollar lottery tonight? I could use the money. πŸ€‘
  22. That's a lot of work, well done! πŸ‘ I guarantee you there are a lot of people out there and probably corps staff that will study your spreadsheet.
  23. Now? We have such a special relationship on this forum and know each other so well that we complete each others...
  24. And I agree with you, a show should be accessible enough to be enjoyed first time out without a playbook. However... You and I and everyone posting here are not the average drum corps fans. We are the 1%ers who will research the theme to some shows because our reaction to shows goes well beyond "I liked that song and it was loud." After a fan like us watches a show a few times there is a very good chance we will get bored and wonder out loud on DCP "is there something more?" I've been exposed to a lot of jazz and classical music thanks to drum corps as I find the original pieces. You know the list, and it has enriched my life as I'm sure it has yours. Did you know what a Matisse star was before the Blue Devils show this year? I didn't. I didn't even know who the guy was. But now I do. Now that I've seen BD's production it will not inspire me to go out and buy Matisse's artwork, but I feel like I enjoyed something in and of itself by watching the show and I learned something about art and history that I never knew. That's what keeps me coming back to DCP to dig deeper, because I want to learn as I enjoy the show at a deeper level. You guys make that happen for me, and I thank you. You've added to the richness of my life. Now if I could only figure out the difference between the GE1 and GE2 captions...
