  1. As I was reading this, I was trying to imagine the converstion that must have taken place, during a full corps rehearsal/run through: "We need something here". "This segment of our show doesn't "pop".
  2. Hey Ben: did I tell ya about a drummer with a band I played in, that owns a set of those fibes white fiberglass drums? I put a urinal cake in one of the toms.
  3. Now that Jeff is a Dad, we will probably get to the 1990's by the time his Daughter graduates from College.
  4. I don't know if we powered any major cities, but we did manage to "break up the eyes" a bit.
  5. And in reply to Jeff, My obsevations on the members of Westshore in the early 80's (As an outsider in DCA with Ohio Brass Factory) Those few that I spoke to were polite, reserved, even humble. I was amazed that a corps so good could be "approachable".
  6. Well, in keeping with the current topic, there was that episode in 1991, where it was rumoured that I was to "recieve" a haircut from an unnamed corps.
  7. Sorry folks. O.T. for one sec... been real busy with the Cincinnati corps. (Class A/DCA). It's alot of work. Keeps me off here, most days. They will be a little better this season. An entirely new look and sense of purpose! I return you now, to your regularly sceduled Rubber Chicken. (and guessing who!)
  8. It seems every so often, we in DCA get a corps so good, that we want to compare them with all the DCI corps. Sunrisers, Bushwackers, Steel City, Buccaneers, Brigs and so on. Here we go again. Take any one of the aforementioned corps, have all the members free up their summer scedules, be fit enough to rehearse every day all summer, compete several times each week, eat breakfast lunch and dinner from a food truck, sleep on busses and gym floors, etc. (leveling the playing field) and then you can compare them with the DCI folks. Reverse the senario, cap your age requirements at what is it? 25 years old? and you have Cadets 2.
  9. The only part of my body that would sunburn back in the 80's and 90's was my nose. This was because it stuck out far beyond all that hair on my head. All I needed for a hot day at rehearsal was a "banana" style hair clip!
  10. As long as we are discussing passing out from the heat... I always wondered why I never passed out in the 88 and 89 DCA seasons. With all that black hair, long jeans as a rule, rather than an exception, never properly dressed for the heat, never drank water, only sodas... dumb luck, I suppose.
  11. Where are we? 82 or 83? LOL! still waiting for the skinny on the seasons I was not a member.
  12. Okay.. The new hairstyle was inspired by Jay Morlots haircut (This is true). The new color was my own contribution to said style. I reserve the right to change the new look, by the time DCA finals rolls around. I am grateful at 60 years old, to still HAVE hair. I actually had more fun in the 80's and early 90's, when my hair was black.
  13. You could say we are Sandy's legacy, Tom. The conga players name is Kevin Luster.(aka: Baby D") Sandy taught him to play.
  14. I just got home (Cincinnati) from Rochester. St. Joes put on a great show and a fun after party, as well. Thank You for having Steel City in your lineup! We all had a great time.
  15. Well, unless somebody youtubes the show. Rubber Chicken on vaction in Hawaii. Only on this thread.
  16. Nope. Doing the St.Joes show with Steel City, though.
  17. My sister was a member of a local drum corps colorguard. They were rehearsing one night at a neighborhood school. A small group of "troublemakers" (which included me) decided to go watch the rehearsal. We heckled them, made our own "parade block" and marched around, being as obnoxious as we could, until the police came and sent us away. One month later in 1968, I joined that drumcorps. The corps director still lives 15 minutes from me. He and his wife were the ONLY adults I obeyed without question, during that time in my life. I'm sure I've said this before, but it bears repeating: If it weren't for those two people, I would be dead or in prison. Of all the kids who were members of that corps, I am the only one still in the activity today, at 60 years old.
  18. I can't be there this year. I will miss everyone. Say hello to Wally and Toomey for me, Jeff. One of these day I will play in a percussion pit with Fran. It's on my bucket list.
  19. Well, I'm just confused. Think I'll sit this one out and watch how it all unfolds.
  20. There are three times in DCA that I will always treasure: One was when Steel City and Rochester Crusaders tied for 7th at Finals and as we stood side by side in retreat, we "merged" both corps and went off the field together. The second time was when Steel City was at a show in Ontario (1987) with Westshoremen, who were making the first steps to a comeback. Steel lined up and chanted "Westshore, Westshore, Westshore" as the corps marched toward the field, to compete. The third time was in 1992 when some members of Westshore lined up to chant "Steel City", at the Cumberland show, when Steel City was struggling to keep the corps together. Times like these are WORTH remembering. People talking "smack", aren't. just my opinion. W: I am also KKY. Upsilon/U.C.
