  1. seriously: 4'33'' best closer ever. and opener and ballad and lot and 60 sec and encore.
  2. well, I hate to do this but... 89 CBC Willie Higgins, Lee Beddis and Scotty Clark in the snare line; and they were almost as good as the bassline! Let me just say this: Jerede on 1 and Corley on 2. You know Star '93?... Corley was the bass tech Jerede was on 2. Not that the top 2 at Scouts 97 were slouches! Two guys with percussion degrees from UCF, Ryan and Andy. Both all-around rippers.
  3. Oooohhh... so close, but your misspelling of "humour" is an automatic DQ!
  4. The camp will be held at: Saint Augustine High School 3205 Varella Avenue Saint Augustine, FL 32084 http://www.mapquest.com ... as you are driving on I-95 (southbound from Ontario ) Exit #318: CR 16. Turn Left (East): 7 mins to Varella Avenue: Turn Left (North): 2 mins to SAHS on Left. Band room is NE corner of school (Second entrance; first door on left). Piece of Eight to the first person to use 'eh' in context without snickering. ... Doubloon for "Glove side low". db
  5. I think there was a change of instructor that year and he brought in some older members. There were even a couple of '92 SCV age outs in that show if I am connecting the dots correctly.
  6. ... gonna be fun to see what Jill and Robbie do at Spirit.
  7. You're missing rehearsal! Serious answer: all but two of the percussion are jr. corps age and don't get on DCP to do the "RAH! RAH!" thing; and the percussion staff is comprised of jr. corps alumni who are treating this endeavor as such. If you must know, percussion-wise: The batterie is nearing completion: Snare line has 9 guys for 7 spots with 6 locked in. Quad line has 4 for 3 spots with 2 locked in. Basses 1, 2, 4, and 5 are set with three auditioning for drum 3. 3 cymbals are locked in and we're looking for #4. Pit has 5 locked in: 4 keyboard players ~ all comfortable with 4-mallets. 1 timp NEEDS: 1 rack and 1 (or 4) keyboard. We could always use more in the front, but we (save one over-zealous student) aren't going to bother with recruitment until after indoor season ends. I tend to be of the "Speak softly and carry a big stick" ilk. Things are just where they need to be. Next camp is in St. Augustine. rockit. p.s. rah.
  8. Barbara Maroney: wow. Mike Collins: mmm... music. db
  9. Speaking for percussion: Most are upperclassmen in high school or underclassmen in college whom we hope to train to move on to jr corps. (a few are ready now IMO). We have a band director in the front ensemble and our equipment manager in the bassline; other than that we are looking at a group of "yung'uns". Any questions feel free to PM me. cheers, Douglas
  10. You mean they actually use our fields for some sort of sporting event? interesting... Besides, I thought football was played with your feet. har-har. db COME ON FULHAM!
  11. everybody fears the unfamiliar... get them familiar with drum corps. show them vids and get them psyched. see what they respond to. then show them hs wgi or boa to let them know it is achievable and tell them you know how to get them moving toward that level. i feel your first step, before you even approach the exercises, is to show the students context. have a real (musical, pragmatic, visual, etc.) reason for the minutiae. if they don't really understand WHY they should define a playing zone... well then good luck with grace notes. as we get into playing, i always offer this caveat to the students: it is my job to tell you what is wrong with this picture, do not get discouraged. i am your FEEDBACK... if you could stand out here and see what i see (knowing what i know ~ you might want to wait awhile before you drop that one on them), you would call for the same adjustments. kids (yes, kids who still watch mtv and make decisions in their lives accordingly) who have not had an instructor in front of them are not used to being told they are doing something wrong! offer as much in the opposite direction as possible. any chance you get to point out a positive: do it!!! immediate reward is crucial! sorry if i sound like i also have a psych degree; because, well... yeah, i do. there are many of them and but one of you... don't force a battle. the only way 'you win' is by making them all quit. get them on your side first; even better, show them you are on their side. usually it's the seniors who want to fight it for a couple of reasons: 1) they like being a hack with no real playing responsibility. 2) deep down, they known it's too late for them. just be forewarned: they may hate you even if you were the love child of Tom Aungst and Mother Teresa. .02 if you have specific questions feel free to PM me. cheers, db
  12. What I'm saying is that anyone could have found out these facts; yet one person felt the need to post them laced with sarcastic derision. Now that is not so interesting... it's just a sad statement on your behalf.
  13. Are we to infer that you hold them wholly responsible? Silly. Even if your information were correct, your misguided attempt at slander is not. Have a grown up day. EDIT: no point arguing semantics.
  14. Jeffro is the man. This is great news for Thunder. You have a new fan. db sorry, didn't mean to go all 'haiku' on you. or did I
