  1. Wrong. Same exact members/boxers, just in different shorts for a different "championship fight"
  2. I thought Colts had a much better show than Madison, but that Madison might have performed better. It was a tough call ... but if I wanted to watch/listen to either show over the next few years as a "Finalist," I think I would've preferred Colts. Glad Madison was back, but parts/sections of their show didn't impress me at all. I was impressed with the Colts for their entire show ... at that level (11-12-13-14th place). I only saw Crossmen on computer, so won't give too many thoughts on them, but I enjoyed Colts more and thought Madison was better.
  3. Considering the NFL Preseason begins on DCI Finals weekend just about every season, it would not surprise me one bit if one of those "9 of the next 10 years" or whatever it is that Finals are supposed to be in Indianapolis that DCI has to move at least one show if not the whole week to another venue other than the new Dome. It happened this year. Back in 2000, Finals were supposed to be at the Redskins stadium but had to move to U of Maryland; and in 1994, Quarterfinals were moved to Wednesday night b/c the Patriots had a home game Thursday night (if I remember correctly). So, it could happen. The Colts are the main tenants of the Dome, and if they "need" it for a home preseason game during one of those Finals Weeks, DCI will have to move. BTW -- I simply LOVED Bloomington in the my three years of drum corps. Always one of my favorites anywhere!!!
  4. I was VERY disappointed to see that the semifinals performances apparently not going to posted on the FN. I was pleased with most of the content (although more multi-cam shows on the playback would be better than just hi-cam), the consistency of the broadcasts and the overall number of shows ... so it was worth the cost. But not having semifinals on there is a major disappointment. I understand that they want you to buy the DVDs, but still ... I absolutely LOVE the idea of at least putting Finals Retreat on the FN -- at least the scores being announced. That had to be AMAZING!!! Now, there's also been discussion that DCI should put Finals on "pay-per-view" as an additional buy beyond the FN and the DVDs and all of that, although bundles would be nice between any two or three. There's definitely an opportunity for DCI to make more money from all of those like me who simply can't go to Finals but would pay to see them on the computer!!
  5. Way to go, Bluecoats!!! Jump back up into 6th!!!!!!!!
  6. No. Otherwise, the winner each show would have a 100. Sorry.
  7. Scores are up ... BD 98.050 (Phantom 98.675) Cavies 97.550 ... third
  8. DCI hasn't updated their scores online since Blue Stars ... no Boston, BK or Bluecoats (one word, thank you!!). Glad the BD blog and here are updating them as they happen. Now, about that Bluecoats scored ... come on!!!!! They should be higher than they were earlier this week in Buffalo and Massillon!!! Ugh.
  9. Hypothetic situation ... let's say "Corps A" has been placing/scoring high enough to be considered a "lock" for Saturday night all season long. But then, on either Quarters or Semi's, they have one of "those" shows -- during a spinning box or a tight follow-the-leader move in the opener, someone falls and many others join the pile ... the whole corps feeds off of that distraction and has a terrible show the rest of the way, missing forms, blowing cut-offs, dropping equipment, losing all of their GE moments on top of all of the performance flubs. Would the judges give them "a little credit" for their scores coming into Quarters/Semi's and score them near where they "should" have scored, or would they drop them like a rock?? What seeding would they have to have coming into the show in order to not fall too far and still advance?? Does it matter if it's Quarters or Semi's??? Just something to discuss while waiting for scores to arrive all night ...
  10. I think one of the three (OK, two -- CC and PR) will take second at Finals. I'm not sure if it's BD or Cavies in first or third, though, but that's my prediction.
  11. It's kind of "funny" how this worked out. The two corps that are the "logical" favorites heading into the end of the season -- Blue Devils and Cavaliers -- performed Friday night in Allentown. And now, the two "sentimental" favorites from this season -- Phantom Regiment and Carolina Crown -- perform Saturday night, along with the corps who usually knows how to make a big push in the last week, the Cadets. So, which Allentown show had this year's champion?? I'd have to say Friday night, though I'd like to see one of Saturday's corps pull it out instead. Well, I'd REALLY like to see my Bluecoats win it all, but I don't think they will this year.
  12. Bluecoats FINALLY broke 90!! I can't wait to see them Sunday in Buffalo!!! And wow, the Glassmen have certainly jumped up in a week, eh?? From 11th and many thinking they'd fall out of the Top 12 to leading the race for 8th in just six days!!!
  13. This is kind of off-topic and on-topic all at the same time ... I saw Pioneer on Thursday (from the end zone, though) and liked their show -- not great, but not bad. But I have a question -- when they trooped the stands on the track, the hornline played -- not just the drum cadence ... what did they play (I couldn't hear it)?? AND -- while I LOVED them doing it, I was interested in how big of a penalty they'd get for doing that ... and they didn't get penalized at all. Isn't playing as you troop the stands illegal? If not, why doesn't EVERYONE do it?!?!?!?! See ... not on the style of music topic, but still love for Pioneer ...
  14. Bluecoats alum ... my main "complaint" with this year's show is a lack of color -- the CG uniforms are the same colors as the corps proper, and the boxers don't stand out very well either. More color. That's it. That simply HAS to be why they've been stuck at 88-89 for more than a week!!! Honestly, though -- I don't get it. Great brass, great drums, great music arrangements, decent drill and CG work ... why are they seemingly being caught from behind this week by corps they beat last Saturday by 5.8 points (Blue Stars, whom I saw live Thursday and love, but still ...) and 8.1 points (Glassmen, who scored an 87 the other night while the Bluecoats were still at 89). Seems as though the Bluecoats just aren't getting "the love" from the mid-week judging panels this season ... hopefully in Allentown and Indianapolis, the "big show" panels will continue to keep them in at least 6th place!!!!
  15. OK, after bashing Hornell, I'm now going to defend it a bit ... sorta ... great field, actually very nice covered stands that hold the sound in (and the heat, too!), and a very receptive crowd ... usually a much better line-up, though. I like the venue, just not the people running the show (read on). As for the "letting the staff in the stands" ... I was actually talking to workers at tonight's show who were complaining about that policy. Back in the early 1990s, workers wouldn't let a big-time corps' Executive Director who was currently Chairman of the DCI Board of Directors into the stands with his DCI-issued, lamented photo pass "because he didn't have a ticket" -- crazy. They collect tickets as fans enter the general admission stands, then pass them back out as they go to restroom or concession stand and won't let anyone into the stands without a ticket. Even tonight, when there were only five corps, only three in World Class, and the stands were only about 75 percent full, they wouldn't let staff members "go upstairs" to watch their own corps perform.
  16. No ... no love for Hornell. Sorry. Not the corps or the show itself, exactly, the place. And the people. Ugh. (I live 25 minutes from there ... ugh.)
  17. Outstanding review. Thank you!! Oh, and yes, it is Bluecoats -- one word.
  18. Too much mic on the timpany ... although it made it sound like a bass guitar ... now THERE'S a rumor!!! Boston uses a bass guitar!!!!!
  19. And last year with another corps performing later tonight
  20. Advancing to tonight will be ... Boston, Blue Stars, Crossmen, Madison ...
  21. And now for the second half of the "On Wisconsin" part of the program ...
  22. I wasn't around for SA last weekend ... scores all announced at end or throughout the show like they used the be?
