  1. No. Winning titles of all kinds is great. After the Big Kahuna, Otts matter most (OK, I was in BD's horn line long ago).
  2. Yep, so someone else can do your job and make sure you're not doing anything fishy.
  3. I assume by your screen name that you are a man. To say you know what you would have done is completely irrelevant. You CANNOT know how these women felt in these situations.
  4. Such an appropriate misspelling following your earlier "I believe..." post! Perhaps a Yeunglingian Slip?
  5. Did you actually read the Inquirer article? If you don't accept that as fact you'll never accept anything as fact. Also, citing an instance where ONE individual made false accusations in comparison to this case where there are NINE CORROBORATED accusations is nonsense. Finally, he's not currently being found guilty of a crime - he's being found guilty of being a stinking albatross corpse around the neck of YEA and Cadets. Not jettisoning him would be suicidal.
  6. As they always say, its not the crime, its the coverup. These problems stem from others who know not speaking up. This is a smoldering fire right now, and it may be kept to spreading further only as a small fire. But if its found out large numbers of people knew about, covered up, or did similar things, it will be a raging inferno. And if those things did happen, they will be exposed. As was stated earlier in this thread, best to put it all out there as quickly as possible and take responsibility. The next few months (years?) are likely to see some serious challenges for pretty much all corps. If this is what it takes to ensure no one in this activity ever again has to suffer what these victims did, it will have been worth it.
  7. Every criminal like this is being outed now. It looks to me like someone associated with Cadets at some point went to reporters. Perhaps it was only the Enquirer that had the resources to actually report the story out. So no, not at all surprised that a Philly paper did this excellent reporting.
  8. Seamless? It should not be seamless, the organization obviously needs some serious shakeup.
  9. He did that a long time ago, the first time he assaulted someone. Its only now come to light.
  10. This is why I said "the drum corps activity" needs to boot GH ASAP. And it needs much more. If stuff like this is common then it would be a good thing if its the end of "Drum Corps as we know it."
  11. "If these allegations are proven..." or some such sentiment has appeared on this thread several times. In terms of the drum corps activity, these corroborated stories from these 9 women are proof. These testimonies are sufficient for the drum corps activity to shove Hop out the door and tell him they never want to see his face near any corps or corps member again. Leave it up to law enforcement to work on the legal proof which, at this stage, is hard to imagine how "proof" could ever be established, except for the very well-stated testimony of these women. That's enough for me and it should be enough for anyone.
  12. My first year, I was in Blue Devils B. We never left the state of California. When the A corps swung back through Nor Cal in early July they were still marching in their "gas station attendant" [blue short sleeve shirts] uniforms. So the only corps I saw live in their actual uniforms who were at finals were the Vanguard. Watching finals on PBS was awesome! All those great corps, the Bridgemen! Santa Clara and Madison performed and were great! Then the Blue Devils came on in their new uniforms - holy sh#t! The beauty of the pre-internet age - when ignorance could bring great surprises.
  13. Actually, Brasso, NBA players saw what BD had done and are duplicating it. Just ask Lebron James.
  14. Just coming back to this thread and I almost pointed out bdcorno's dino nature, but he'd already roared in with his comments, even if it took him 30 minutes to type it because of his tiny T-rex arms. Those arms are why he preferred the old "snail" French Horns instead of the "baseball bat" French Horns.
  15. I get why people would like to see more movement over the course of the season. My first year in top division competition it seemed everyone beat everyone else at some point in the season, and it was kind of fun. But corps stay in their relative positions due to the competition itself, not some secret slotting sauce. As for the idea of objective scoring, and comparing drum corps to competitive sports, can you show me where drum corps play defense? Unlike competitive sports, drum corps can have no effect on the performance of their competitors. Hence, we're left with a subjective scoring system, just like ice skating and gymnastics.
