  1. Everything was thrown into that show except the kitchen sink. Wait... was there a sink and I just missed it? Biggest crowd reaction for a 10th place show in DCI history.
  2. So it's been over since 1992 Finals, is what you're saying? 🤔
  3. * Bluecoats - man, this is a really well-designed show. Especially the visual book. But it screams out to me "I will peak in the first week of August and then fade!" I'll be honest: I see them in 3rd at Finals. * Vanguard - show still doesn't click, but it's also the show with the most room for growth. They just added their tarps. What's next? Can they adorn enough bells and whistles to take them to the title? Something amazing to think about: Cadets 84-85 and Cavaliers 00-02 are the only non-BD corps in the modern era to repeat as champions. I think they'll pass Coats, but not... * Blue Devils - I'm a music guy, not a visual guy. And while, musically, the Top 5 corps (add in Boston and Crown) are all really, really close in quality, IMO the Devils and Bluecoats are lapping the field in terms of visual design this year. I haven't fallen in love with this show yet, but... well, you're a fool to bet against the Blue Devils. Ever. 2004-2006 was the last time Concord didn't win the championship two seasons in a row.
  4. Look, if you're going to talk about me right in front of my face, the least you could do is to extend the common courtesy of tagging me in the post.
  5. Much like the bowl of petunias falling from a great height, the netizens of DCP see the another Hostrauser Power Rankings thread and think, "oh no, not again." Take these with a grain of salt, and remember the cardinal rule of my rankings: if you disagree with me you're wrong and your corps is actually very bad. Projected score estimates for DCI Prelims (8/8/19) 97.978 Bluecoats 97.739 Blue Devils 97.486 Santa Clara Vanguard 96.643 Carolina Crown 95.651 Boston Crusaders 93.315 Cavaliers 90.716 Blue Knights 90.623 Blue Stars 89.817 Cadets 88.736 Mandarins 88.469 Crossmen 88.048 Phantom Regiment 86.283 Spirit of Atlanta 84.293 Colts 83.483 Academy 81.390 Pacific Crest 81.053 Madison Scouts 79.312 Troopers 78.553 Music City 75.281 Jersey Surf 74.944 Gold 74.059 Spartans 73.970 Legends 72.570 Genesis 69.888 Golden Empire 69.663 Louisiana Stars 69.087 Cascades 68.820 River City Rhythm 68.413 Southwind 68.329 7th Regiment 65.098 Shadow 64.658 Guardians 61.601 Colt Cadets 58.778 Raiders 58.310 Heat Wave 54.199 Les Stentors
  6. It's actually an old rule, I think it just dropped off the radar the past couple of seasons. The membership seems very much in favor of it, though, so I'll make a note to include it going forward.
  7. We have a friend's BBQ to attend tonight, so the unlimited caption changes will not be activated until between 9-11pm Central tonight.
  8. Still a day and a half to vote, but the "Yes" option has a huge lead. Expect to have unlimited caption changes for roughly 24 hours starting sometime Saturday evening (probably between 7pm-9pm Central).

  10. DCP-I Rule 7a states: The day after the Regionals is designated as a “caption reset day”. On this day, for a period of 24 hours, directors will be able to make unlimited caption changes. This is meant to simulate major mid-season rewrites that occur in real life. After this 24-hour period expires, the normal caption change limits will be reinstated (see Rule 7 above). I had forgotten about this and did not enact it this past weekend. Should we have this "free reset" day this upcoming weekend? The unlimited captions would like be turned on in the evening/night of Saturday, and shut off Sunday evening.
  11. Fair point. I forgot that page was even there (and it badly needs an update) but that's on me. I'll let the membership decide and start a poll.
  12. Well, based on yesterday's soccer results with the USWNT and the USMNT, it looks like the Madison Scouts can't integrate fast enough! (Hey... hey! Stop throwing things at me!) 98.243 Bluecoats 97.255 Santa Clara Vanguard 96.891 Blue Devils 96.220 Boston Crusaders 95.931 Carolina Crown 93.360 Cavaliers 91.589 Cadets 89.671 Blue Stars 88.891 Mandarins 88.204 Blue Knights 87.912 Crossmen 87.699 Phantom Regiment 86.329 Spirit of Atlanta 83.933 Colts 81.151 Academy 79.475 Madison Scouts 78.386 Troopers 78.094 Pacific Crest 78.004 Music City 75.840 Jersey Surf 73.681 Spartans 70.666 Genesis 69.609 Gold 68.530 Legends 67.674 7th Regiment 67.453 Cascades 67.267 Louisiana Stars 67.176 Guardians 65.151 Southwind 64.898 Golden Empire 61.054 River City Rhythm 60.402 Shadow 57.695 Raiders 57.261 Heat Wave 55.549 Colt Cadets 52.470 Les Stentors
  13. I don't think that was ever an official rule and, honestly, I don't remember that being the case in the prior seasons I've run (my memory is far from air-tight, though). Regardless, I gave everyone almost two weeks' notice that the unlimited caption selections would be going away yesterday. Sorry.
  14. Congratulation to our Regional Champions! Point increase has been implemented. Unlimited caption changes are now shut off. You get one update of up to three captions every 168 hours (1 week, timer starts when you make the change).
  15. Yeah, the place went nuts. Biggest pop of the night, for sure. After Madison, Vanguard got the loudest response in 1999. Those two shows were head and shoulders above everyone else in terms of baby-throwing that year.
  16. 1996 Madison Scouts. That swirl-into-a-360-into-a-spinning-triangle move at 11:00 remains to this day my all-time favorite drill move in DCI history. Also, I had forgotten the Scouts marched an absurd 7s/8q/6b/4c battery line for the whole show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0_0lZyqjgc I've also forgotten how to embed videos
  17. 500 miles and 7-8 hours from Seattle, WA to Ashland, OR for the Cascades. 450 miles and 7-8 hours from Pasco, WA to Ashland, OR for the Columbians. A long ways to go for one show when you're just going to reverse course and go back 300 miles to the next show. Named after the Rogue River in southern Oregon. One of the premiere river rafting locations in the country.
  18. I don't know what's going on in the App, but there were only eight... 2010 DCI Finals 98.90 Blue Devils 97.75 Cavaliers 96.40 Bluecoats 95.95 Carolina Crown 95.10 The Cadets 93.15 Phantom Regiment 92.00 Santa Clara Vanguard 91.90 Blue Stars 89.35 Boston Crusaders 88.95 Madison Scouts 87.10 Blue Knights 85.80 Glassmen
  19. Not sure what you're looking at. 2010 only had 8 corps over 90 at Finals. So did 2009. I don't think there has ever been a Finals with ten corps over 90, only Semis.
  20. No, Gold just tends to be very slow starters who come on strong going into August. Look at their trends relative to Pacific Crest the past couple of seasons... GOLD, From Pasadena to Prelims 2017: 9.25 behind Pacific Crest to 7.6875 behind (+1.5625) 2018: 6.05 behind Pacific Crest to 3.325 behind (+2.725) Gold was behind Genesis by several points this time last year, too, before edging them at Prelims. Will Gold climb the standings as the season goes on? If recent years are any indication, almost certainly. But right now they are where they should be.
  21. This thread has been up ten minutes and is already rated 1-star. 😂 I hope my fan club is having a wonderful morning.
