Agree. I think this year will be one of pleasant surprises. And not just with the Madison Scouts either. Nothing better than shaking the applecart up a bit. Madison Scouts have some new ,but very experienced and capable staff there. The word " boring " isn't in their lexicon or resume. I'm really looking forward to what the Madison Scouts put out on the field this year, and wish them the very best.

Bagpipes might work in DCI. I'd be in support of the use of bagpipes when they use woodwinds in field competition. Bagpipes have been known to be quite solemn and highly effective at funerals before.

Does anybody here know if Teal Sound will be doing faux sound, spiel sound, or the real deal sound, this year ?

Good analogy. The Farmers Almanac has weather predictions months in advance. It is kind of silly. But they wouldn't print it, if people didn't want to know what they think the weather will be months away.

I think it's fascinating here in February where a poster can say " I think the top 5 will be great this year" (come August ). Most Corps havn't put 30 seconds of Visual on a practice field yet, nor learned more than a song or two. It is pretty amazing though that despite knowing so little about these Corps, we can have such a prediction( or expectation) Would't it be great to have an offseason where 20 Corps (including Crown ) could win it all ?

The poll is not a true representative sample of the DCP populace because we did not get a sample of the ice cream. As such, I'm holding back my vote until I can sample the ice cream. Otherwise, the poll would be considered unscientific, and nobody would want that with their poll.

Substitute Bluecoats for Crown circa 2003, and we've been down this road before. Crown is the new flavor of the month now, which is fine, as DCI could really use some new blood that looks like they could legitimately challenge for a Title, instead of the same ol', same ol'.

The competition must have been very intense to rise to the top like this to represent their country. But at te end of the day, it was an easy choice as to who gets to carry that Country's flag in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and that's refreshing to know.

If DCI needs to beef up the sound of the brass so that 80 horns sound like 45 G's, the good news is they will still have the option to dial it up on the musical machine which can crank out the sound of the G's. It might be faux sounds. But as we are learning, there are no faux sounds on the field of competition. It's all "real". As "sound is sound". Plus,the repair costs on the machine only require the replacement of electode filters and what not from time to time. Otherwise, they can manufacture " real sound " for years and years.

And here I was thinking it was because of the joy that marching and playing music provides. But I'm learning more and more each day. Follow the money.

Well, that's YOUR opinion,....which is fine. But if a musical note is not played by a musical instrument live, but instead is the product of a pre recorded, articifially produced IMITATION of that musical instrument, and is utlized in a live setting to imitate that musical note from that instrument, in my opinion, it is most decidely a " faux sound " as it relates to music displayed in such a judged competition.

Good point. It was also true in earlier decades that if a Corps is not the best Corps according to the judges,..." they will NOT win"....." the BEST Corps will win ". ... It " STILL boils down to this. " Some things never change.This would certainly be one of them.

Tour fees, for one, comes to mind.
