  1. Madison is performing at R & B again this year. We're talking 100,000 people and a loud drum corps!!!!
  2. It looks like the guard put in changes that aren't clicking just yet.
  3. The weather in Madison looks perfect for drum corps on Sunday July 2. The forecast calls for 79, partly cloudy! Madison should be able to compete in their own show this year. All seats a Reserved and there going fast. See the Scouts, Cavies, Coats, Cadets (Colt), Colts, Regiment (Capital), Pioneer, and Sound. For tickets call 608.837.0707 or log on to http://madisonscouts.org. Madison will conduct a clinic at 3:00.
  4. You have got to make a point of seeing this group. I was at the performance yesterday and I spent the whole time grinning like an idiot! They are loud, tight (and getting better each rehearsal), old, and old-school. You can see them three times: In Sun Prairie on July 15th during a band competition. On Wednesay August 9th in Madison at memorial High School. It's them, Madison, Jubal, and Capital Sound. On Friday at Semi-Finals...They may win the hearts of everyone there that night! One thing to keep in mind. Every member is an alumnus of the Madison Scouts. They range from 1938 to current decade age-outs. No wanna-bes, just MADISON SCOUTS!!!!!
  5. GGarret and Uncle Z after the Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Project run-through in Madison today.
  6. The guard book isn't finished, and Mark Metzger (guard designer/head person) just came in to work with the guard. Look for improvements. As an aside: Horn scores are down because of visual problems...the drill is a bear to march. Listen to the hornline standing still and they are amazing. Once the drill gets easier to march, the horn scores will improve as well. No early peak this year. They have a competitive drum line this year! All in all, I'm not panicking. We beat a lot of people early last year and finished 6th. Maybe the same will happen this year...maybe not, but my hope is that it will!
  7. They are. They're rehearsing it as I type (at MATC Madison).
  8. Not too subtle?! I didn't get the e mail. Check your's...I just sent you a few addresses.
  9. I love it! The artist is a genius...I have a Jeff Koehn original hanging next to my desk as I type! It will be a big seller, Jeff.
  10. The entire guard this year is guard...no former brass players or X-Men as they were named in 2002. That year, there were only 3 or 4 guys who had spun before being placed in the guard. They did a great job for being drummers, but it certainly hurt the visual scores.
  11. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell, I'm sure it'll be like last time finals were in Madison and they'll be an unofficial scouts reunion after finals at the bar down the street from the stadium (the one with the sand volleyball court beside it...can't remember the name). And if he's there, I'm sure he'll show. That's where I saw him last, anyway (maybe he's still there...lol). The Stadium Bar on Monroe Street (next to the UW Police Department across from Camp Randall) will be the official Madison Scouts' Fans Headquarters all week. When looking for good bar food and drinks, it's the best in the area.
  12. Two for Redmann...we know how to get there from Madison, although we are former FIBs who orginally hail from FDL. It's a busy week for us, but I wouldn't miss it!
  13. Could Drums on Parade in Madison on July 2 be when Blue overtakes Cavies?!?!?! Will Madison close the gap on Blue?!?!?!?!?! Will Colts close the gap on Madison?!?!?!?!?!?! Be there to see it live! Get your tickets by calling 608.837.0707 or go to madisonscouts.org Don't miss one minute as this glorious argument! Come to Madison on SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY July 2
  14. I am a Madison Scout...I marched a long time ago, but still consider myself a Scout. What is your point? As for my input on the topic, I doubt their is a conspiracy, but I do think judges spend too much time looking at what their peers have done from night to night. More objectivity across the board would be excellent. It would also stop the other rampant topic of slotting. Madison has a tough show this season. Where they place August 12th is impossible to say. Do they have a vehicle that can take them to a place above people beating them now and who beat them last year? Who knows! I look at a season less than 1 week old and chuckle at both the negative and pie-in-the-sky prdictions for eight weeks from now. The bus has left the station, I'm just going to look out the window and enjoy the ride! The opinions stated in my posts do not reflect the attitudes or opinions of any organization I may be affiliated with. They are mine only.
  15. Sunday July 2nd in Madison at Drums on Parade will also tell a lot. Cavies Madison Bluecoats Colts Capital Regiment Pioneer Get tickets now at madisonscouts.org or 608.837.0707. They're going fast! Drums on Parade is in a different stadium than last year.
  16. Jeff is still living that down. But he really did look like Flash Gordon. He's doing the Reunion Project, which will be performing in Sun Prairie on July 16th...1/2 a block from my house, Mike! Hint.
  17. The 1982 Madison soprano line. Before Finals...I'm fourth from the left. We didn't meet like Steph and Mike, but here's Caroline and me...I'm on the right!
  18. Gush away, Steph...I feel the same way...although we never dated...but we go back a few years more. He's the smartest and funniest guy I know! See you at Drums on Parade.
  19. madcntra99, I hope you didn't take my reply as a slam. Just a comment... We're all entitled to our opinion, and I certainly think your's was fine. Brothers never agree on everything! MYNWA
  20. For any high school musicians, or people who want to see the Scouts conducting a clinic, you will have that chance at Drums of Parade!
  21. It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of another one of pour brothers. Terry Lowell Hampton, died in Madison on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. Terry was age 59 and marched for 11 years with the Madison Junior and Explorer Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. Terry was born in Madison on May 12, 1947, the oldest of three sons of Lowell and Gladys Hampton. After graduating from Madison West High School, Terry received his civil engineering degree from UW-Madison. Terry married Alice Jean Doherty on Oct. 18, 1975, and was the proud father of Mandy and Kevin. Terry began his engineering career at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and was currently employed with Gannett Fleming Inc., as manager of dams and water resources engineering. Over his career, he served as a chairman and on the board of directors of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials, receiving the President's Award in 1996, and the Midwest Regional Award of Merit in 2003. He was a past president of the Wisconsin Association of Consulting Engineers, and served on the American Consulting Engineers Council, American Society of Civil Engineers, task committees for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, visiting committees at UW-Madison and Penn State, and on the National Dam Safety Board of Review. Terry truly enjoyed his work, but valued most the many great friends it brought into his life. He was a lifelong fan of Badgers football, basketball and hockey (he and his college friends started the "sieve" chant many years ago!). Special memories are the exciting trips his family took to work on Rose Parade floats and cheer the Badgers to their three Rose Bowl victories. He enjoyed a good round of golf, "exploring" with his family, a good joke and cheering on his kids in their many activities. Survivors include his wife, Alice Jean; his daughter, Mandy of Los Angeles, Calif.; and his son, Kevin, at home. He is also survived by his brothers, Dennis (Jennifer) of Warrenville, Ill., and Stephen (Joni) of Verona; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roger and Amanda Doherty; sister-in-law, Kathryn Kleckner; and his four nephews and nieces, Randy and Sara Hampton, Laura Severson and Jim Kleckner. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant twin sisters. Terry was a man with a caring heart and true integrity, and always put the wants and needs of others ahead of his own. He cared so much for his wonderful family and many dear friends, and will be greatly missed by them all. The funeral service will be officiated by Monsignor Ken Fiedler at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The family would like to give special thanks to Terry's "care team," Drs. Jarjour, Lucey, Musat and L. Fleming and nurse Erin Hallen. In Terry's memory, please consider becoming an organ donor and taking a moment to sign an organ donation card. Memorials could be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace School, Edgewood High School or to the family for a fund being established in Terry's name to promote organ donor awareness. Terry, "You'll never walk alone."
  22. Ahhh, how rational...I should have thought of that when they switched after the 1982 season. It's not the uniform that makes me a Scout it's what's inside.
  23. They debuted it at a camp. That's where I saw it.
  24. The Madison Scouts have relocated for the remaining two weeks of Spring Training. They are now at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, where they will stay until June 15th. For more Madison information, visit madisonscouts.org
