  1. Well, they could start by actually playing music for more than 40 seconds at a time or more than six minutes total! (This is not exaggeration, I timed it).
  2. Let me just throw this out there. From what was currently available (2017), I was able to see the 990 forms for the top 11 corps. (Income and expenses). As you can see, the Regiment spent the least on staff. However, look at Cadets, they made and spent the most yet their ROI probably did not support the staff expense. BD $3,793,949.00 $1,591,648.00 Vanguard $4,586,872.00 $1,317,704.00 Crown $2,404,773.00 $271,204.00 Cavaliers $1,443,604.00 $243,413.00 Bluecoats $2,073,202.00 $106,897.00 Boston $2,855,336.00 $585,029.00 Cadets $5,533,664.00 $2,188,736.00 Blue Knights $1,644,938.00 $132,522.00 Regiment $1,313,707.00 $98,196.00 Blue Stars $1,318,407.00 $170,721.00 Crossmen $1,279,912.00 $110,435.00
  3. I don't know if they have further incorporated the props into the show, but of they didn't, they need to.
  4. Obviously, a drummer would tend to enjoy it more than a brass player so, let me give you a for instance. During what I believe was the ballad, you had a soloist playing a fairly mellow passage, in between passages the drum line, just starts jamming away totally in opposition to the mood set by the soloist. to me, it was just distracting.
  5. Ok, lets try, 'lacks musicality' (IMO). Percussion that doesn't complement (IMO) what is happening brass wise, is annoying. This isn't a contest to see how many notes can be played in 11 1/2 minutes. If it was, they'd win. For me, they were a distraction thus, ANNOYING!
  6. Or maybe Ghostlight, or Everglow. How about, I Remember Everything. All of these could be as you described.
  7. My 'opinion' at Pasadena Vanguard, like it but, liked last year better. BD, since the brass line plays only about 50% of the entire show, not a fan. Cavaliers, first piece, not so much, the rest I liked. BK, way too much goo and their percussion book is annoying. Mandarins, should have beat BK (IMO). Academy, probably my least favorite show of theirs in the last 5 years. Troopers, wow, what a completely different program for them PC, IMO, their best show in a while. Was surprised that Troopers beat them.
  8. Not that anyone is asking but, the first mistake was the shows name 'I am Joan', (sorry but barf). It is too contrived and (IMO) cheesy). They could have continued with the theme but used 'The Fire Within' instead of I am Joan. Too bad they didn't reach out with a poll question on the show title. A little late now!
  9. IMO, should never have been given the 'Program Coordinator' role!
  10. Is it Ricks job to hire the staff or make recommendations for staff, or the BOD? I don't know. I'm fairly sure Rick doesn't have much say in show design, but I could be wrong. Show design and staff obviously go hand-in-hand. Yes, I have been critical of the show design over the last few years (including 2019). If Dan was the issue, it is now a non-issue. So, what IS the issue now? Why can't the corps attract or retain high caliber staff? Is it finances? If so, what can be done about it? Too many questions, and not a whole lot of answers.
  11. Which is very scary. Or, they don't care. Just as scary!
  12. Actually, I'm confident that it will not make finals. This design is 10 years behind the time (IMO).
  13. Umm, the G7? That's pretty much over now. The TOC is gone, etc. How is that statement even relevant to the conversation?
  14. Perhaps. But the Regiment has been attempting to 'play the game' on their own terms and it has produced one bad show after another. The only thing they have going for them that might keep them from oblivion is the lack of options for corps members. 'Well, none of the corps I wanted to go to have spots, guess I'll try out for Regiment'. How sad is that?
  15. As an alum from the 'good old days', I don't want the glory days back, that simply isn't going to happen. What I want is for them to be relevant. That could be taken any number of ways so, lets say, I want them to be competitive. They haven't been for 1/2 a decade or more. The designs have been mediocre at best. This year is an example of the lack of an original thought (Joan). The uniform/costume changes make no sense, the props seem to be there just to say 'we have props' (I'm hoping they will be utilized more going forward), visual design is, at a minimum, five years behind the times, I could go on. My biggest concern is, if they continue the trend (downward), they may cease to exist. I know it sounds extreme however, they are (IMO) no longer considered a 'destination' corps.
  16. Phantasm was as close to a BOA show (bad BOA show) as I have seen from the corps.

  18. True, but last year there was really nothing they could do to make the design better. Do I think they will improve the design enough to remain a top 12 corps? Wish I could say yes to that with confidence.
