  1. It's not a loaded question but I did "hear" that it's not done anymore. I was just asking if that was true.
  2. Is trooping the stands with a drum cadence still done at DCA shows?
  3. You know if we had $10 from everyone that viewed this thread we would have all the money and then some. I hope some my my BAC Sr alum can kick in some "Beer" money - (I know that will be tough!)
  4. The Classic hold some fond memories for me in the Kodak Theater I performed in "The Classic" in 95 with BAC Sr. I had been away from drum corps since 1971. I stayed for the show to watch MSJ (they were huge.....). I heard they were going to perform at DCI Finals in Buffalo that year. I wandered out to Leroy HS and was welcomed by a great bunch. Storky was mad cause I took his drum... (I didn't know?) Got to perform with MSJ at the big show and the Boston Standstill that year. Still have some good friends out there and would see them here and there when I performed with BAC Sr. Nice memories - great show....
  5. Strutta - you da man..... Always have our back. (I assumed a hefty check is in the mail. The Flushing Toileteers Alumni plan matching donations).
  6. Total cost from Stanbury (another shameless plug) per uni is about $275 - includes Top with extras, bibbers , shako, plume, shako box & gauntlets. - That would get us 43.6 uni's and we could probably need more to field 50 + and add guard costs etc. No gold wheels. We could go cheaper but that also means spending $$$$. If in the end you want to look good - why spend $3K and throw it away in 1-2 years and then spend $300 a uni 2 years from now. Class A does not mean Class-less. Corp-Vets and others did the same. We would like to be Open Class in the future. Golf shirts and baseball hats ain't going to cut it but if that's what it takes - we will be at Rochester.... Hope you can spare a ten? Help our quest to get a Florida Corps back to DCA! Checks may be sent to: Sun Devils P.O. Box 4427 Orlando, FL 32802-4427 Or use the donation button on our web-site - It will take Paypal or just credit card if you don't have a Paypal... Every bit helps and thanks in advance !!! www.SunDevilsCorps.org Its nice to have a Phantom Regiment guy to pose and play in our horn line also !!!!

  9. All parades - http://www.saintpatricksdayparade.com/ Mar 16th - Scituate, Mass. Boston Crusader Sr Corps Gates School, Scituate -- Scituate's 11th annual St. Patrick's Day parade is popular along the South Shore and Cape Cod communities. The parade ends at the scenic Scituate Harbor. Scituate is nicknamed the Irish Riviera, since many Irish politicians like James Michael Curley and the Kennedy's liked to vacation there in summer.(1:00 p.m.) Mar 30th - Manchester, NH http://www.saintpatsnh.com/ Muchachos, Inc - Light Brigade - St Kevin's Emerald Knights and and coming big parade - bigger than Scituate Mar 30th Holoyoke , Ma 2008 Holyoke Saint Patrick's Day Parade March 30th, 2008 Downtown Holyoke - The 54th annual Holyoke Parade is reckoned to be one of the largest in the nation. The parade is the culmination of numerous Irish events in March that celebrate the Irish community of western Massachusetts, many of whom emigrated from County Kerry and the Blasket Islands in the 20th century. (Noon) 411 533-1700 There used to be a lot of drum corps at this parade...
  10. maybe bad press is better than no press...... Ok, I think we have danced enough here. We have been on DCP (almost too much) with way too much information on where we are , what's going on etc. A lot of hard work by many people and yet a post like this sinks all our efforts. (no luv.... dental work.... dXXXXbag etc....) This was OUR thread on what SD was doing and what's happening. Let alone a personal battle that should be fought elsewhere......Thanks....... Anyone can sign up on-line at our web site, as has been stated before, to join the corps (many many times). Anyone can call or e-mail the director/staff posted on the web site. Anyone can PM a poster on DCP associated with SD if you need an answer. Anyone can show up at a rehearsal and just ask somebody. (Like many have done). If you want to be in or just plain curious all ya gotta do is show up. If we haven't been perfect give us the benefit of the doubt and don't make us look bad. We will continue on with our effort and anyone can be a part of where we are going. We have room for everyone. We want a good competetive drum corps but we also want a drum corps family. If we're doing something wrong...please... let us know. But it has been said that discretion is the better part of valor.
  11. Sun Devils Drum & Bugle Corps - Florida We are looking for some more Brass players for our corps. The next rehearsal camp: Mar 8 - Sat Mar 9 - Sun St. Augustine High School 3205 Varella Ave Saint Augustine, FL 32084 Our Home practice site will be in Kissimmee/Orlando area every other week. Poinciana High School Kissimmee, Fl Mar 29-30 Our Goal is to compete in DCA competitions in DCA South and DCA Finals in Rochester, NY We are a serious weekend drum corps - not a touring corps Our dues are very cheap and we have sponsor programs to help out with that if needed. We have one third of our show complete with these rest of the corps and look forward to building our Brass line even more For more info or Sign up on-line: www.SunDevilsCorps.org
  12. I don't know what the heck that was all about...... Maybe we can get to do a fund-raiser with a wrassling match? ......(Always looking for good fund-raising ideas....) How many of you would do an internet pay per view? It would go towards our uniform fund !!!! In the mean time - We'll be practicing, accepting new people etc. in St. Augustine. Brass, marching cymbals, one bass drummer, front ensemble - Guard
  13. Got the new uniform sample from Stanbury and will have it at St. Augustine camp this weekend. Just need someone that is 38 regular to "model" it. (I'm sure I will get 1 or 2 volunteers) Also for the youth's (yoots as they would say in NJ) - we will have the dues sponsorship program to assist you with the $$$$. Just come sit in if your not sure - pick up a horn and play with the gang.
  14. Given a choice of shows I would go out of my way to see a DCA show or Finals than a DCI show - especially finals. Just my taste. Maybe because I have more friends that are associated with the DCA activity and I don't have a kid in DCI so I don't really have a reason to go. I didn't even go when it was in my back yard in Boston last time. I watch DCI on TV and I see spurts of things I like. I fine DCA more entertaining. I like that the corps aren't perfect and have an identity. I like the whole finals atmosphere with the I & E, parties and all the venues that Donnie mentioned. Much more fun. People seem to stick with the same corps, year to year. Gives me some of that old time corps comradarie feeling. Gives people a chance to do drum corps that would be able to any other way. They end up performing beyond what they thought they were capable of. I always like the underdogs. I can appreciate the elite but I connect with the regular guy. You can virtually stay in one venue and see all the acts. In DCI you can't see div II (open) unless you go to the other stadium etc. The learning curve in DCA is slower. Some of those corps you see earlier in the season , given more time, would clean up real well. I have seen June DCI shows that were pretty rough. I have a racing analogy. As the racers get better (and team more expensive) the numbers of racers get smaller and they only race in the top circuits. For me I raced in NHRA drag-racing. Today you have to be on list to show up at the gate to get in to race a NHRA national event. That's cool. I go in the stands and watch the best. Some of it I like , some of it ehhh??? I can still participate in smaller racing associations and we all have fun , have good racing and put some people in the stands.
  15. Poinciana High has some nice areas along the building that you can practice along the bldg. in the middle of a rain. Only my feets were getting wet during that brief heavy rain.
  16. Just got home.. Pooped.... Need sleepy.. Had 5-6 front ensemble along with 6-7 snares and 3 tenors and 5 bass. The new DCI players in Brass filled the sound out nice. Had some guard check it out. We will be cranking on Guard soon. Need as much brass as a possible. Percussion is almost set except for the plates. Front ensemble has some openings but will close up soon. Opener sounded very good Sat eve. before we hit the Ale House. Uniform design was revealed today and should have sample at St. Augustine Practice in 2 weeks. Got to hit the hay....
  17. Good minds think alike. Yes, a DCI corps wouldn't have to change their age limit policy to do DCA (I don't think, unless it comes under some federal age discrmination policy). They could just be like they always have been. A Youth organization. (Or Yoots in NY/NJ). ECJ would be a great example. They could have continued on in another competition arena possibly. I would hope that DCA would want to have more corps. It doesn't sound like a bad problem to have. Better than corps going under. I consider the Kilties a resurection corps. Too much time has passed since their DCI days and DCA days.
  18. It seems DCI is headed towards the "Super Corps" or Elite class. But my guess would be 5-8 Corps at best. The rest of the World Class DCI corps would be "feeder corps" for the Elite Corps. They would still have to scramble every year for new people, chase money, deal with bus break-downs etc. Open Class is much more reasonable but as a fan I would still choose a Reading Buc's - Statesmen - Cab's show over a Div II show. (I still would watch and enjoy the Open Class show because I just love to see drum corps anyway and the effort that the people put into it)
  19. Keith You some computin' lessons - There are forum tools to utilize example: to enter your e-mail like this so that people can just click instead of copying , paste etc. keith_hall@srqit.sarasota.k12.fl.us You can also add a Post icon, web links, photos so much more.....
  20. Friday Night Bump.... Orlando/Kissimmee camp We should have a good turnout this weekend now that drumline and brass are back together. Add some front ensemble, guard, mini-corps sight-seers, parade music learning ? etc. We will be centrally located and only 1-2 hours from most anyone. Even just the curious who want to see if we have a real corps and hang out. No pressure..... (but we do have extra horns). Just sit-in play a few notes - who knows.
  21. Would a DCI corps ever go to DCA format? I know this will be a very controversial subject. It is not meant to bash or demean anything. I wasn't sure which group to put this in but I figured ya might as well go to the top! If I put it in the DCA group it will only be preaching to the converted. My thought is that some DCI corps may not be able to keep up and rather than just get small or less shows (Div II- Open Class) they may find it better to go with DCA format for survival purposes. I see so many lower echelon corps struggle every year when they may find it easier to move the whole deal to DCA? Just a thought?
  22. Ooooooh Keith Baby. I like that tune ......sweet.... I hear that spots will fill up fast already now that word has spread. I'm still available for bongos...
  23. Blue/Green Noise? ...just kidding.... When you all start talking about how much CASH is needed to start a DCI corps it makes me think how out of whack DCI has become. My opinion is you have to start small - didn't SC Sound start as a parade corps? It didn't take them long to become good once the right people were in place.
  24. Sun Devils We haven't competed....yet...... but have all intentions and are having active rehearsal camps. We are much more than a web site and presence on this forum. We are a serious effort. ps: we don't have any corps jackets or t-shirts, we're spending all our time practicing.
