I’ve only seen everything on FLO, so I knew my jaws would drop. Loved every minute yesterday but these stand out. The moxie of Open Class! Academy live is much much better. That ending is perfect. Made me want to get up and chase Willy for that golden ticket! Trooper Lord Troopers! Brilliant! What to say other than that. Phantom brass! And a little thing like that kick halt has such nostalgia impact that Phantom. Cavaliers… Love me some Little Fugue! Cadets…There they are! You can capture your past and modernize it. Top Five!!! All are better live. Crowns brass!!! Bluecoats…on Flo never cared for it. Live is a different story. Had me from the start. Boston is my dark horse fav!! Seemed reserved but after Crown….well you know. Crowd was in a frenzy. BD….They can back up everything they do! There was a father and son who sat in the no show seats in front of me. The father was green to everything but very invested because his son marched in a smaller open class corps from the south. Dad is learning a lot. His son is 18. He mentioned he had auditioned for a world class corps but didn’t make it. Kudos to him for continuing to open class. Son joined him during the meat of world class. This young man could hardly contain himself during performances. And dad followed his lead. He loved Bluecoats. I asked him if he could march any corps which would it be. Blooo of course. I told him not to give up. If you want to stay in open class do. If not show your corps much love and get that experience. His Dad said he’s 18 and they are in for the long run. I’m sure this wonderful kid will march on Saturday night sometime in his future. By the way mom was there too. She works for Flo marching. ( I didn’t say anything but “Oh Really” and left it at that) That was my biggest takeaway!!!!

After all that, you may have to live with disappointment for last thing. But oh how I wish also for BAC.

Flight in from Atlanta yesterday was fine minus a 30 min delay. (Waiting on flight crew) have to say TSA and general ATL airport employees were horribly rude and nasty. Blah blah Over worked probably but still no excuse. Indy airport a breath of fresh air. I realize both are two different animals but Atlanta pushes so many through rude made be the only way to get it done.

I brought a hoodie.

The plane came in from Boston and no one but the pilot and co pilot plus one attendant got off. At least I hope no body is still sitting on it.

My flight is now delayed 30 minutes. I spoke to soon.

I’m at Atlanta airport now. My flight is on time. It’s pretty busy.

These corps are getting me excited for the next few days. I haven’t seen live drum corps since 2018. That plane can’t get there fast enough tomorrow!

Feel bad for the performance after a weather delay. Time, wet slick field. Holds them back a bit I feel.

Here in Auburn Alabama we got one a few months ago. Still don’t know what a butter burger is!

And there are actually more than just 4 or Cali corps in open class that are doing great things.

I personally underestimated Southwind with where they are.

I check daily. I leave Wednesday morning. My flight was a flight that I had to cancel in 2020 when the world fell apart. I came in just under the gun to use it. It was a cheap flight as far that goes. $268 round trip from Atlanta. With the time that’s past and that trip bought and paid for, I kind of feel it’s a free flight. In saying that I probably just jinxed myself.

How about giving some open class some love with predictions. 1. SCVC Early loss to BDB woke them. Probably just biding their time. 2. BDB Back were they left off in 2019 3. Gold Stay healthy. This show is well designed. Musically outstanding 4. Spartans Good show but not as good as 2019. Plus competition from the west is back. 5. Battalion Can only see this corps rising and giving west more power. 6. Guardians Strong start with a fun show that keeps interest. 7. Legends Smaller corps this year but could be 6th. 8. Louisiana Stars Only corps I have seen so far. 9. River City Really liked early viewing. Glad they have not compromised on look. 10. Southwind Smaller version. OK show. Good guard. 11. 7 Regiment Rebuilding it seems. I hope they continue to improve with what they have. 12. Colt Cadets Great little show early on. If Columbians and Golden Empire were in the mix, Columbians in 5 and Golden Empire 10

Not a fan of BAC soft ending. That’s just me. I do love loud in your face sustained endings.
