  1. I agree. I mean plus, you wouldn't understand the story AT ALL unless you have seen the actual Spartacus movie...I mean, cool, deaths, la dee frickin' da....($100 to Matt Foley/Chris Farley) The show had great music, and a very talented brass/percussion section. Its not the greatest show of all time...or anywhere near for that matter.
  2. No more so than a few other lines. They really didn't play much better in tune than BD (maybe a little bit), but they didn't play as well in tune as Crown or The Cavaliers.
  3. There was MUCH MORE noticeable dirt in Phantom's feet and drill cohesion.
  4. Malaguena - Madison Scouts Dotted quarter, dotted quarter, quarter quarter - every blue devils show Bernstein (Candide, WSS) - Cadets Fiddler - SCV Ave Maria/Firebird - Phantom
  5. Well, I'll give you PR had a better hornline and drumline than BD. But I also think there were 1 or 2 better hornlines better than Regiment.
  6. Its my freaking opinion, and he had to be a jerk and try to twist my words to make me feel bad about September 11th. That is so inappropriate its not even funny. And I agree...I think when most people get their dvds they will understand that BD should have won. Yeah, Phantom was really entertaining. They had a great hornline and great drums, but their performance didn't quite match up with anything BD did, except for drums. When you watch the show, do you really think "Now THAT is championship caliber drill" or "Now THAT is something people will remember forever?" About the only section people will talk about in that show is the deaths, mainly the one at the end. I mean, it was a great show, but BD was clearly a notch ahead of Regiment in terms of performance. Look, I LOVE Regiment, and they are definitely my favorite drum corps. That has nothing to do with the fact that I didn't think they deserved to win Saturday night. Most people will, when they get the dvds, realize that although they really WANTED Regiment to win because they're tired of BD winning, that The Devils really did deserve that trophy more so than Regiment. Great drum corps, but I've seen that show many times since on the unnamed site, and I don't think "Wow, now THAT is impressive" on much of the show. I watch the Devils' freaking ridiculous marching, and amazing colorguard, and I think "Now that #### is clean!!!" Sorry that Michael Boo had to try and make me look like a jerk because he's the biggest Phan in history, besides Chaos001. Sorry to disappoint you, Phans, but I just don't think the show is that great. Definitely not nearly as CLEAN as the Devils. I think the only reason Regiment won is because everyone WANTED them to win, not because they DESERVED to.
  7. biggest travesty this decade in drum corps, ###. don't be a tool.
  8. yeah, me too. every time i look at it, i think "how in the world did they beat the blue devils? they had nowhere near as good of a visual program, and they didn't perform nearly as well, yet they still won" i guess i'll never know... biggest travesty this decade IMHO
  9. The comment was "you don't think southwind can compete with crown?" my answer was "no"...in the area of competitive drum corps, right now, they can't. its simple. I said NOTHING about the way the organization is run. So shut your digital mouth.
  10. Of course Southwind can't compete with Crown. 1.) They're not nearly as good. 2.) They aren't even fielding a drum corps as of now. I love Southwind, but its just plain logic.
  11. Actually, there was a modulation to Bb Major, and then it ended on a plagal cadence (IV-I) Not many groups have the sack to end on a plagal cadence.
  12. there have been tons of hornlines louder than PR 08. 1 or 2 of them in the same year as well. Great hornline, but not the loudest of 08.
  13. No, but I've seen judges give their home corps MORE than the benefit of the doubt. I.E. - give a corps with tradition a higher score than a corps that is obviously better than them.
  14. Actually, if we're talking symphony orchestras, I'll dare any of you to find a group better than the NY Phil. And those groups sound like that because EVERYONE does it. And its completely different outside. It doesn't come across as edge, it comes across as crass. And Hroth, thats cool and all, but any ensemble that doesn't know how to have control and doesn't show it is a very immature ensemble. The 95 Scouts DID have control. They just had a very powerful, forceful sound. I love edge as much as the next guy. I can't stop listening to the Dallas Wind Symphony (anyone who has heard them knows what I'm talking about ), and the CSO's brass section is fantastic and pretty much the best in the world. But drum corps musicians aren't professionals, and not every single one of them plays with the same quality, intonation, and blend. Thats why that sound is usually one that I don't prefer in the drum corps setting.
  15. Yeah, their 2008 hornline wasn't nearly as gross or offensive as most of their hornlines from 03-06/07. And to those that like to cite "orchestral edge"...let me give you a reason why that doesn't work in the drum corps setting: In an orchestra, every single member is a professional musician who plays with that edge on their tone. They all play perfectly in tune, and produce sounds that blend extremely well together. In the drum corps setting, players are spread all over a 100 yard field. NOT every single member of the hornline plays with that edge. And also, by the time that sound reaches the stands, it has changed from "edge" into "crass". If every single member of the line played with that sound, and they were only 20 feet away, it would be different. I love their attitude as much as the next guy, but sometimes the "emotion" gets the better of them. I will also agree with Jayzer in his comment that the '06 Regiment mello line was a very offensive section in terms of tone quality and blend. Some other shout outs go to the '03 trumpet section, the '05 tuba section, and MOST of the bari/euph sections the past few years. Don't take it as an attack. It is simply an opinion, and you should treat it as such. I'm sure that the Phantom Regiment doesn't care about what I have to say in the first place, and that is totally fine.
