  1. -1990 Star of Inidiana is my overall favorite. - Favorite tags after the show as the corps exits- 1987 Cadets, 1988 Blue Devils and 1993 Bluecoats. -(Actually suprised BD 1988 has not been mentioned much in this thread). - Favoite fun or entertaining closers to watch - 1988 & 1995 Madison Scouts, 2008 PR & 1991 Crossmen (love that Crossmen drum feature in the closer). Favorite visual/drill endings : -1991 Star of Indiiana - 1998 Cadets - 1991 Cavaliers
  2. It was great to have Drum Corps in the Nations Capital that year. I grew up in Northern Virginia, and was living there at the time. Not to be biased, but as many of you know, its always great to have Finals in your backyard. Byrd is a good stadium. A little "steep on the angle" the higher you go up, but overall, pretty good. Maybe the upcoming renovations might help that angle? I agree that not having a logo on the 50, was a welcome view. I think one of the better things that came out of it was the exposure or awareness. There are so many good music education programs in the area. I think at the time, it was a benefit to those students, that they could now see drum corps live. Also I remember there were some corps who made appearances at the various monuments and sites in and around DC. That was very patriotic to see. I remember last year there was a show at the Naval Academy. Wish I could have been there. The mix of military history as a backdrop to the corps would have been special to see. If Finals were to come back, I would hope Fed Ex Field gets to be the host. If remember at the time, RFK Stadium was seen as a possible site to host? I do remember in High School, RFK was a good stadium to perform in at halftime of Redskin's Games. But it was a mess to get to if you drove (unless taking Metro). It is also situated in a pretty bad part of DC. Hopefully Daniel Snyder, (if he is still the Redskins owner), might have a softer spot for it next time around.

  6. ....Good to see things have not changed in Fairfax County, and that music education in schools is still seen as a priority there.
  7. Agreed. Best weather in the country. Beautiful beaches and Ocean is nearby. Lots to do. Hopefully by 2018, we will have less of a dependency on diesel, and possibly a different/less expensivce fuel for the busses so that this can happen. ...(depending on which administation/party keeps their energy plans a numero uno priority)..Hopefully, alternative fuels will be the one thing that makes it possible for many corps to tour and come out to visit California, more often. Thank you Phantom Regiment for coming out this year. Hopefully there will be more. I liked the Rose Bowl, (but I am probably biased being part of the Kingsmen, cause we were all about it). Personally liked the feel of performing in the stadium, from field level. It seemed like the fans were right there with you, and not somewhere in the upper deck. But from the fan perspective at the Rose Bowl, I think its all about the the "getting in and getting out". If you were there for July 4th show this year; Especially, if you had to park on the golf course... your stories probably relate to a hellish experience. As for now, I like the 10 year deal in Indy. Brand new stadium. All the amenities. No field issues or rain. Centralized location for most corps ( Not like Kansas City was, but still pretty good). Overall a good deal. There is some other thread on here about the acoustics, but I think in time, it will be worked out. Also, lets hope that out of this, there is some consistency in housing year after year. Either this, or that housing progressively gets better, (as in better accomadation for the corps needs, based on precedence), with the expectation that corps will be in Indy for roughly the same week year after year.
  8. Yeah, 93 BD. Not so much that it didn't win..but the hornline that year. Wow. Others.. - 1990 Star of Indiana -.2008 Bluecoats - 2000 SCV - 1988 Cadets - 2001 BD
  9. If you would like, come out this Sunday to Western HS. Our Alumni hornline will be practicing for the parade from 1-3pm, near the baseball fields (parallel to Western Ave). Winter Guard auditions will also be happening from 1-6pm.
  10. Yes, that is correct. Announcements on the 2009 Senior Corps will come, most likely in November, after our appearence in the Anaheim Halloween Parade.on Ocotber 25. Speaking of the parade, please see SCV Guy's-(Kevin Monahan) post in the Topic "Halloween Parade" (DCA All-Age Corps Forum) regarding the parade appearance, practice schedule, and how you can join us. By the way, Chris (monoemono) ... "Night in Tunisia" BlueCoats 93...Personal favorite. That tag at the end of the show, gets me everytime. Great show overall.
  11. 1. Star of Indiana 1991-Simply put.. Masterful 2 Blue Devils 1993- In the 1993 video Steve Rondinaro says..."The hornline was cooking tonight..the rain must have given them some extra octane". - Incredible Brass Line that year. 3 Star of Indiana 1990- Amazing music book. Incredible ending with drill and music. 4 SCV 1999- I agree with a prior post made on this show. This was the most intense show I have ever seen live. Particularly the ending of the second movement. 5. 1993 Cadets- Speed, more speed, percussion and punch....Hoping the Cadets revisit Holsinger again in the future. 6 1994 Blue Devils- Great Guard, High Snare Sticking, Vintage Brass Sound. All Attitude... It was all there that year. 7. 1985 Cadets- Bernstein and Drill. A Theme for The Cadets of the 80's...and now a theme for them in 2009. 8.Cavaliers 1991- A show which is not on many lists. But the flag toss and push at the ending, and the HUGE reaction from the crowd in the Cotton Bowl...amazing. 9. Crossmen 1991- The drum solo. 10. Cadets 1991- Short Ride in a Fast Machine...SCV's version was good in 2001, but this one had a lot punch, and great drill. Favorite Year: 1991. Top 7 are incredible.
  12. The Winter Guard will start with the intention of being in Independent Open. However, the possibility to go Independent World is not out of the question. That will be a staff decision as time progresses.
