  1. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! KENNY G!!!!!!!!!!! IT BURRNNNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
  2. Maybe there should be a www.dci.org hosted poll on "Why Do You Think That Finals Attendance Decreased?". Maybe they'll be able to prove that there's a reason besides electronics. For instance, maybe it is money/cost of travel, something which seems more relative for today's society.
  3. Things that I will openly admit about electronics - Things I could care less for: I didn't like the Cadets, Bluecoats, and Blue Knights "string moments" Things I thought that electronics were useful for: Sound effects...Crown, Cavies, and BD all had meaningful sound effects that (Personally) I thought were essential for the effect of their shows.
  4. You know, I'm kind of tired of this electronics debate. You're telling me that people wont go to a show because of, "Oh no! He/She played that keyboard. I automatically don't like this show now."
  5. I came to drum corps because it's not high school marching band. I love being around 149 other individuals who want to work hard, who want to produce the best show that they can, and who are committed to doing that. However, I guess the reason why I'm okay with the new additions is because I was in a marching band not to long ago.
  6. I guess. You make a good point. In that sense I don't see drum corps "demise" in the near future.
  7. Quit calling it a marching band...I don't see any woodwinds. Or bandos for that matter.
  8. I didn't mean to say that it draws them into drum corps, oops. But I know people who could care less about the electronics. One of my friends who isn't even involved in the activity (but her boy friend is) LOVES Mad World. I don't think she cared about their being a few electronics, or miced solos. I mean, maybe the changes wont keep the older fans...but the newer fans wont notice it as much.
  9. It's not losing fans (as a whole). It may be losing people who were true to the art pre-electronics, but I see newer and younger kids coming out to the shows every year. Maybe it is losing fans, but eventually it will regain it's abundant audiences. Changes are hard, and it may take a while to fully develop them, but usually when DCI makes a change it's for the better. I thank God for the changes, because without them, I'd probably get bored of seeing the same old show year after year.
  10. I am a pie person. That demotivational just blew my mind though.
  11. I totally know what you mean. That era was spectacular in terms of lead players. I guess you can say that the last "true" lead player was Scott Dean.
  12. You're a very good trumpeter, and you have a wonderful tone. Just don't short change others' playing abilities.
  13. But really, if you find the music, I guess I can do a challenge of some sort, and post it on youtube.
  14. But that's my point. If it's not unique then it wont go any further, which is why reverting back to the older styles wouldn't do good for the activity. So if you don't like the "new" DCI, and it's stopping you from liking it progress, then why watch it?
  15. I don't think that drum corps is going to revert to what they had 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago. I mean, if you don't like it then don't watch it anymore. As far as I can see it, DCI is doing anything but reverting, and why would they do it? I mean, football isn't going to put the goal post in the middle of the end zone again. So what if G bugles sound louder...they can't be played in tune as well as a Bb. Oh, and isn't DCI about the arts too (not just about physical aspects)? Adding voice, electronics, etc. only increases the amount of innovation and artistry in the activity.
  16. (Let it be known that I am *not* an old timer) Competition. This is probably only a small factor, but the musical "competition" on the college/professional level has changed drastically. There are tons of younger, newer, and more innovative musicians being produced now than ever before. I know of several music majors (and future music majors)who really want to do drum corps, but they feel as if it will be a hindrance towards their practice time that they get over the summer. I find the summer breaks to be a time to grow as a musician; the summer can help you prepare for major college auditions and ensemble auditions that you may encounter in the future. Now like I said, this is only a small factor, but it is a factor. Also, there are other summer music programs around America that are very beneficial as well. Several universities host jazz, classical, composing, etc. music camps around the country. Students (and professionals) find that these camps can be one of the most educational experiences that they can have. That's just some food for thought (I guess).
  17. There will not be an end to drum corps (DCI/DCA). There are way too many supporting fans, and as long as there is marching bands in high school's, there will be drum corps.
