speaking from personal taste only, depending on who comes in I may like this change. I love crowns music/brass, but their shows have been getting a bit over the top for me... although I really liked inferno.

many people at various points wanted crown to fire leon may, I always said that'd be a mistake Until recently his drill was not always 'flashy' but oh so good from guard staging and all that practical stuff. He will be hard to replace. But if they do it with Jamey Thompson or Michael Gaines by some miracle, this may work out.

so townsend and may are leaving crown? Is that confirmed? what a bummer if so, I will miss this era of crown shows. Ryan George is still the arranger? "Quixotic" was completely 'meh' to me, I hope the music is a lot better next year.

09 was a great show... musically. unfortunately it was a visual nightmare. I still prefer it over '12-'15

Ok, you did not hear that from anyone on staff. they did not want to 'just get through' the anniversary year, that's rediculous. Also, funny you say the 2010 show was brilliant. I seem to remember you #####ing up a storm about how awful it was at the time.

I don't mind vague either, sometimes I prefer it. PR 2003 (harmonic journey) is my favorite show of all time, and it's concept is vague AF. Dan Ferrel said on one of those podcasts a couple of years ago that any time they bring somebody new in to the design team, they like to go in the direction that they want to go. An example is into the light, which was myron rosanders idea when he joined the team.

similarly, I was just thinking how badly I want DCI to include a 'designer commentary' track on the dvd's/blu ray again. There are some shows, which I liked, that I think we would all appreciate a lot more if we were able to hear the designers intentions.

As for music, as long as it's something melodic, that stands on its own without needing to see the visual, I'll be happy. But I really want to see angry phantom back!

The drill wasn't the disaster I thought it'd be this year, but they still need a real designer. I don't think they pay their staff much (I don't know this for certain, it just seems that way to me since all their new hires are 'amateur'-ish), so it'd probably have to be somebody who isn't yet well established and is willing to do the job without a big payment. I also wasn't as in love with the guard as some people were. Will Pitts works closely with Wes Cartwright, so dream scenario would be Wes coming in to design the guard. But that would be $$$$$$, so I'm not holding my breath. A would also like to see a new/competent program coordinator or lead designer. Their conceptual planning seems to be their Achilles heel right now. This is the most needed change, IMO. I hope the rest of the team sticks around - they are better than they get credit for.

You're thinking of it too literally. It's just a thread to discuss his work and if he were to come back. Perhaps I should have made the headline be "I want Mike Gaines back in dci". I didn't mean petition in the literal sense, as I would not start a REAL petition to make someone do something that should be a personal choice.

I realize he is a master stager as well, he wouldn't be the great visual designer if he weren't. But, I know we'd see some amazing drill from him as well. There is no guarantee that if he was back that his designs would be anything like what he previous did either, but I'm also confident that if he wanted to play the game differently now, he would do so in a really great way. Maybe beyond what the bluecoats did this year. There is no literal petition. I just made this post to say I want to see his designs in DCI again, and to see if others do too. Don't take it too seriously or literally :).
