  1. Lets be honest for a second.. No one has been close to the Bucs in programming/ level of difficulty for the vast majority of the last 10 years. So to pick out one corps really isn't being fair when up until this year Bucs have lost a total of 2 shows since 2005... Now this year in my opinion the programming is about equal for both corps. Bucs have a more difficult visual program, but its tough to say whose is better. It all depends on taste. Starting from probably 2012 to now Cabs have steadily climbed the ladder and this year they are every bit as well programmed as Bucs. And I'd probably say Cabs march better than Bucs this year.
  2. actually you were right... 1/2 a tenth. 1/2 a 100th would be .005
  3. You were missing the point of my post. It wasn't about comparing Cabs to BD thats absurd. It was about how they both compare to their respective circuits. Its my opinion and only my opinion but Cabs like BD show and exceeding variety of skills other than just marching at a fast tempo for 12 minutes. I hope you get to Scranton to see what I saw in Wayne, which was not only are Cabs doing a lot of incorporated body work but they are doing it exceedingly well for a weekend only corps. And I was told that they have added even more to their program. Again only my opinion it exposes you a lot more as an ensemble if you are doing timed body work than simply marching dots. Players who aren't doing the visuals correctly stick out like a sore thumb.
  4. Yup. Saw most of them at the Grand Prix and have seen videos after that on youtube (Before they were taken down). I think the Cabs have the best show with the most variety of skills being displayed. They have the most pure brass ensemble sound and are playing the most difficult brass book out of any of the corps. Do they march at 200bpm for the whole show? No. But do the Blue Devils?? of course not, and they seem to be doing ok. I respect everyone's opinions, I just don't think the Cabs are being given enough credit for beings really #### good this year. The predictions would make you think it is a matter of the other corps figuring something out and cleaning.
  5. ... I started the sentence with "just wondering". I didn't put down anyone's opinions. But I was trying to gauge how many people were throwing darts at a dartboard blindfolded. I just find it interesting that Cabs have won every show they competed in except the first show of the season and no one is picking them.
  6. I'm just wondering how many in this thread have seen all the corps in question... Cause basically what this thread tells me is the Cabs haven't been winning because they are good, they have won because everyone else was bad and is going to turn it around.
  7. Absolutely right, I remember you a couple times saying that there needs to be movement at a certain point in Cabs show.. and that you think they need to change the ending... But of coarse they are winning so it is much easier to take criticism when you are on top. Much like last year when no one complained when you criticized the staging of Bucs tuba/battery feature... And why did they not complain... because they were winning.
  8. You just made my point... He said in that post that he wasn't at the show so he can't comment on scores, but he was talking in Generalities and didn't name a CORPS!!
  9. I'm sure John is a big boy and doesn't need someone to defend him... but I challenge you to find a quote where he says that Readings crap is crap no matter what?!?! He was merely responding to the people who think that just because something is performed at a higher tempo or movement for the sake of movement is not enough if its not achieved. On to another topic.. Last year at this time the Grand Prix thread had 4 pages. This years Grand Prix thread has 27! and is followed by a Secaucas thread that has almost 20 pages. How is this not good for the activity? There is actually some excitement and discussion on a gasp... discussion board.
  10. If they were in Wayne and deserved to win percussion they probably would have had to first regular season 200!
  11. Actually im pretty sure the percussion caption was brought up only after an obvious Bucs homer questioned the Music Ensemble scores... And leave it to people on the board to complain about actual discussion and intrigue during a drum corps season. I for one love the excitement for this season. You could tell at the Grand Prix that there was much more enthusiastic crowd than years past.
  12. I don't think the ME problems really have that much to do with the percussion score. It is extremely difficult to hear ensemble issues when your on the field focusing on a single section. Thats why there used to be an ensemble percussion guy in the stands. However, it is crazy to believe that from the field Bucs were 2pts better than Cabs and 1.2pts better than C2. Whats more interesting is that the percussion judge popped that mid-august number with 2 corps still to perform.. So if CV and Cabs were both better you would have had a corps scoring in the top of the percussion box on july 12th!!
  13. So what you are saying is be ###### with creating a program you can achieve lets just design a program that is an automatic 100 in the composition sub box.... Thats not the way it works because then the corps with the most difficult perceived book would start the season with 100.. How it is actually implemented is you are credited with the design relative to how its being achieved. And on Saturday night Bucs were the 5th best corps in ME. edit: I also noticed you didn't bold any of the words like achievement or excellence.
  14. Id be interested to know if you were actually at the show or is that just an assumption that the ME was lost? Being 3 rows from the top by the Judges I completely agree with that number. The opening of Bucs show had a major tear. Along with that their amped up pit, even being in the middle of the field was overbalanced the entire show. I'm not sure if the staffs of corps have the ability to control volume during the performance but that seems like a simple fix that wasn't made through out the show. I normally refrain from posting in threads like this because of the fact most of the people that argue with you weren't even at the show in question. However, since this show is available on the fannetwork here are some observations. Cabs are performing on a different date of the calendar than anyone else at the show. They have the total package this year and their brass line was on a different level than everyone else. I often wish that Brass judges had the same mindset as Percussion judges because the spread there was wayyy too close. Bucs are performing a show that maybe their 2012 corps and maybe even 2013 corps might be able to pull off, but it doesn't seem like they have the horses that they had in the past (even though they are still fielding a fullsize corps). Its going to be a tough chore to pull it off this year with the design of the show hinging on the corps playing from primarily the back hash. That being said im a sucker for Shostakovich and I still enjoy what they're trying to accomplish... I just dont think its going to get there. And like John said I have no problem with the percussion placements but that number was ridiculous. Cabs, C2, and Fusion all have excellent lines and it is tough to imagine them 1.2 better than the next corps in that caption. Fusion has a well thought out and cohesive program that is extremely entertaining. It looks like they might have taking the mantel from Empire in the entertainment category. The only issue I see going forward is that they might be performing over their book in a couple weeks, and despite the impressive guard they dont have the total visual program that the 2 corps ahead of them have.. and maybe not the level of CV this year either. CV probably should have been closer to the top 3 and I thought their guard was probably underscored as well. The have some performance issues but it is the best show/corps they have ever put on the field.
