  1. Dude you just took a perfectly positive posting and turned completely around to the negative side. Congratulations man. I mean even though people disagreed with the vocals thing they had some class about their posting. As an alumni of the cadets, I feel pretty crappy after reading your posts. It's one thing to disagree it's another thing to discourage the members and staff of the Cadets. I also can't believe your ignorance to say that George has ruined the corps. Do you really think its George that does everything, do you think he arranges the show, picks the music, writes the drill, no, he is just the director. He is just a face for the corps. Maybe it would help if you knew that Marc Sylvestor and Jonathan Schwartz play a much larger part in the selection of music than George even does. Furthermore, no one cares if you’re going to go get a hot dog during the cadets. It's nice to be like I just don't like the song, I don't like amplification. It's another thing to say something like I'm going to get a hot dog. Great wonderful, statements that are unsupportive don't hurt any one except for the kids that are trying their best to do this. As someone who has been on the traditionalist side and the innovation side, I can say there are things I don't like too. I also am not a fan of other vocal amplification; however I'm not going to let one performance or song ruin the fact that the rest of the show could be the best thing to ever hit the field. Everyday kids jump on here to read people's perception and everyday those kids who have the chance to pursue greatness read all this negativity and second guess whether tradition is above their personal goals. To say I hate this song/amplification is so much nicer than to say some of the stuff you have been saying like I'm going to get a hot dog. That would be like me saying I hope you choke on that hot dog because hot dogs are full of carcinogens that cause cancer and I don't like them. Terrible thing to say but you choking on a hotdog is the equivalent to a negative post discouraging a member. Just like a member that has to live their whole summer with that, every time you eat a hot dog you are going to have to think "Man I better chew this hotdog carefully, I don't want to ruin me". Silly analogy, yes but I think I am making a valid point. I went to march the places that I have marched because my pursuit of greatness not because I think Bb sound better than G's. I wanted to push myself past every limit I ever thought I had, I didn't march because people can finally hear the pit due to electronics. Sometimes people need to evaluate what the bigger issue is here. People constantly say drum corps is dying but drum corps will die if high school band programs give kids a "cooler" experience than drum corps. If my high school was top notch and had amplification and singers and theatrics than why would I want to go march a drum corps that, to my 17 yr. old undeveloped eye, does not have all the cool stuff we do. It's an open forum here we are allowed to say anything we want but that doesn't always mean it needs to be derogatory. If you don't like some thing that's cool, if you do like something cool. I marched years that I disagreed with stuff in our show and believe it or not they may not be the things that are obvious but you will never here me talk about them, why? Because I learned too much in one season to focus on a few design disagreements and that's more important to me. I don't want this thread to turn into a big debate about what I've just said, please try to stay on topic (unlike me lol). I just had to get a thing or two off my chest. It should go without saying but I'm not speaking as any kind of representation of any corps and I am just speaking from my experience. I'm not trying to feed trolls; I'm just trying to get some people to think about what they could be saying. You are completely entitled to your opinion as am I no one can take that away from us but just have some respect for those members who are going off to have the hardest summer of their life and give them atleast a little bit of encouragement, please.
  2. Do you sit in your office and find yourself sometimes thinking about Scranton, Pa? Do you feel like wind ensembles just don't play loud enough? Do you sometimes find yourself rolling your feet or trying to take an 8 to 5 step with good posture? Do you sometimes put on green underwear in the morning and then throw on a red shirt and immediately think of the Santa Clara Vanguard? Do you hate oboes? Then you might have what we professionals addicts call a drum corps addiction. Unfortunately there is not known cure however there is something that I have that can suppress the addiction. Yes that's right I have something that can keep you from throwing babies when you hear a B9 progression or wanting to push old ladies downstairs when you hear a double high C and that help is........ a weekend with the Hawthorne Caballeros. This weekend may be the last chance to secure a spot with the 2006 Caballeros and that spot needs to be filled by carzy drum corps addicts like yourself. So if you need to keep yourself from drumming cadences on your desktop, refreshing this screen to see if anything has changed in the last 30 seconds or high stepping your way through the lunchline then come check out The World Famous Hawthorne Caballeros this weekend from 10-5 on both Saturday and Sunday. Rehearsal Site (Both Days) Hawthorne High School Parmalee & Warburton Sts. Hawthorne, NJ 07506 Saturday, Feb 18th Brass Rehearsal 10am-5pm Percussion Rehearsal 10am-9pm Sunday, Feb 19th Full Corps - Brass, Percussion, Colorguard 10am-5pm
  3. The Caballeros have had there fair share of screamers over the years.... I mean we all remember Ponzo, Curt Hawkins, Chris Bernotas, Gene Marada and years of just great soloists. However what you don't know is that we have had a lot of unsung heroes. They are usually the second person in the duet and always have the higher note.... check it out. Over the years a few have really stood out. People like Adam Berger, Gordito, Angel Rivera, Christian Orrico, Russ Batch, The most consistant Flamenco Cha-Cha soloist John Gerdes. Now add in people like Drew Wilke and The almost legendary John Malloy and you are looking a great lead sop line not to mention all members of Cabs 06. So If I were you I wouldn't miss the opportunity to come hang out with some of the best screamers in DCA and come fill out the remaining spots in our hornline. (ok I would say that's a shameless plug, but there's no shame in in the history of the Caballeros, become part of the legend and maybe even leave your own mark or note rather in drum corps history.) Check us out http://www.cabs.org Adam
  4. The actual title of the show was "El Toro Nuevo" The repertiore was original bookends by Key Poulan and The Prayer "El Toro Rojo" "The Prayer" "El Toro Furioso" If you ever want to know what a corps has played check out www.corpsreps.com Adam
  5. I'm telling you, there's no way I would miss this weekend.... or season for that matter, everyone in Hawthorne is excited from the staff on down to the members and volunteers. Come check us out, if you don't get your drum corps fix this weekend then it's not a big deal but I highly doubt that will be the case. So come check us out. Plus the guard will be there this weekend and we all know how hot they always are. b**bs. BE THERE! Adam www.cabs.org
  6. If you all have cabin fever like I do from this holiday break then you should come check out the Cabs camp this weekend. We are going to explode large objects and smack Santa in the face for not getting me the legacy series or we'll make music, we haven't decided yet but come on by to have a good time. The Frog
  7. The clarke Studies have a lot of good stuff for finger technique in lower registers and it really helped improve my low end sound and technique. Lots of long tones would be great down in the register.... lots of buzzing basically the same things you would do for any other register. Dr. Maryann Craig at Montclair State University in NJ always tells her students in order to learn how to play high you have to learn how to play low. So in a nutshell just spend a lot of time down there everyday even if it is just whole notes or tonguing the same note 20 times in a row will have a similar effect as an etude it's just more basic. Adam
  8. He definetly called him Zim Julick.... even though we were in the zone (haha) at that point there were still a few laughs on the field Frog
  9. Trust me, play something you know you sound good on.... it's that simple, even if it is something you have played a thousand times the staff listening will never know. The idea is for you to sound good, so from Crossmen in specific they will ask you to play the exercises and then they might ask you to play a piece but they are more focused on the exercises. Don't be nervous, you are going to make mistakes and they know you are nervous, so if you crack a note of tank a phrase it's not the end of the world they are looking for solid fundamentals. So just show up really prepared with the exercises before and pick something you are familar with for an audition, that way you also help your confidence along. The Frog
  10. oh wait Kat! I know how to play this game.... THE FRONT OF THE BUS SUCKS!!! HAHAHA just kidding love ya girl and miss you so much Frog
  11. I wish this was the case but honestly the cabs haven't won the Clifton show since 98. We have lost Clifton to some very fine corps in the last five years and they weren't any group of angels. (on a side note we're not allowed to beat the lord's army, just in case it ever happened, some of us would be praying a long time for forgiveness ). I've won the dream and now I've won clifton my life is complete. Right Jop? ..... Anyways thanks for the review Just out of curiosity how fast is Bush's opener? bpm? Adam ampssuck ampssuck ampssuck
  12. Thank you for the review, it was good, intelligent, positive, constructive and impartial. It's nice to get some feedback from the fans after you went out and worked so hard for them. Thanks again Adam
