  8. Los hombres en los sombreros se gastan la campana profundizó pantalones.
  9. What if no scores or placements were announced all season long? They could be sealed in a lock-box until Championship Weekend. Corps would go on in random order at all shows, including Prelims and Finals. All of the judges would be required to be at Prelims and Finals, stowed away in a secret location. The panels would be chosen randomly 15 minutes before the shows begin and taken incognito to the pressbox. This should keep all the judges from just "giving it" to the Buccaneers again because they are on last at Prelims.
  10. Can you say who won it at Scranton? Without looking it up? How about, I don't know, Lewisburg in 2008? No one cares and to be honest, it would be kind of pathetic to bring it up. By all accounts, there were 5 really strong corps this, year with a better than usual 6th through 11th. If there are 3, 4 or even 5 corps that really have a shot at winning, only one of them is going to be happy after Finals. No doubt that everyone worked really hard to go for the brass ring, but unfortunately, there is only one ring. For those that are unhappy about the results, get to work now and make your corps even better next year. That's probably what Reading did way back in 2004 just about this time after taking 3rd at finals to Brigs and Empire.
  11. Prelims - MBI 96.175 Reading 97.500 = Reading by 1.375 5 out of 11 judges had Reading in first in their respective captions. MBI had 4, Empire had 2. Reading wins, corps are ranked correctly. Time for Finals. Finals - MBI 97.225 Reading 98.263 = Reading by 1.038 5 out of 11 judges had Reading in first in their respective captions. MBI had 3, Empire had 2 and Hurcs had 1. Reading wins, show is over. Time for Monday morning quarterbacking to commence. Each judge gets to focus on their one single caption through out the entire show, while all of the armchair judges that flippantly say "So & so got screwed! I was there and I saw and heard it!" These people somehow feel they have the ability to do the entire job better than 11 trained professionals that all have judged dozens if not hundreds of contests and all have proven track records. Mistakes are made, but the current system does a good job of minimizing the effect any one judge that "has an off night" can have on the outcome. Personally, I would like to see a complete double panel for Prelims and Finals, but I doubt the corps would approve adding on $3K-4K to the judging bill. IMHO, the best corps won and the second best corps did an amazing job as well and gave Reading a serious run for their money. But who am I to say? I'm only one person and not a panel of 11 judges!
  12. I don't think having a college degree (or two) in Music is a bad thing as far as being qualified to judge DCA. I know some people imply this on here sometimes. I also think having experience teaching and/or designing at the higher levels of the activity are a big plus. I suppose some people become judges after just marching with or teaching consistently lower placing corps, but I can't think of too many that have stayed on the panel for very long. Knowledge, Quality Experience and Integrity are the key traits of a good judge.
  13. I bet you watch a lot of Glenn Beck. If you are truly "not saying any judge would do anything less" and you really are "not trying to discredit the adjudication panels", then why do you say that you are worried about anything. Saying those things doesn't give you a free pass to imply the judges would do anything other than their very best to get it right. No need for you to Hope and Pray that they do. I know many of the men and women on the DCA panel and I can tell you that the ones I am familiar with are highly qualified and have integrity. BTW, which "good corps" has a "bad drumline"? Just curious.
  14. Agreed! I saw the currently ranked top 3 at Scranton. All 3 seem to want it, but I just gotta give the edge to Bucs. I still think they may have another gear left, while the other two are trying to max out their top gear already. Thing is, Bucs better shift into it by Saturday night or they may get caught with their foot on the clutch. Don't forget that MBI is on the track as well. Looks like we're in for a great, exciting finish this time around!
  15. Here's mine... Open Class 1. Buccs 2. MBI 3. Hurcs 4. KScouts 5. Empire 6. Cabs 7. Alliance 8. Renegades 9. Corpsvets 10. Bushwackers Class A 1. Fusion 2. Govies 3. Grennies 4. Carolina Gold
  16. You have a funny way of talking about something that you think is no one's business. Pay no mind to the man behind the curtain. Nothing to see here.
  17. When is the last time anyone has beaten the Bucs in a percussion caption at a show? Having heard 4 of the top 5 lines this season, I don't see it happening anytime soon unless MBI comes in really strong.
  18. It seems a little strange that no one has posted anything about the show in Scranton this Saturday. Anyone going? Any thoughts on how this showdown of 5 of the top corps from last year is going to go? OK, I'll start... Buccs 94.683 Hurcs 92.500 Cabs 91.910 Empire 91.824 Bush 88.585
  19. They changed a major portion of the music in the ending. Unfortunately, no one could hear the difference until they went to bed that night.
