  1. Ummmm ... nope. Why can't people just be decent to each other? Is that too hard to ask?
  2. I know most people don't like the show, and I have thought that it was pretty meh most of the season, but with the new effects and the new ending I can honestly say I liked their performance in Atlanta. For the first time this season, they looked like The Cavaliers of 1999-2011. I still think the show is probably their weakest show in a decade, from a design standpoint ... and I don't expect them to make a major surge over the next two weeks in terms of score ... but I was glad to see them start to look like The Green Machine again. I can't wait to see what they do next year.
  3. I'm not a BD fanatic at all. My favorite corps are the Cavies and SCV. In fact, I have disliked most of what BD has done over the last 5 years ... but I do like this year's show.
  4. West coast corps have to stop for rehearsal on the way to the east coast too. I don't mean to keep harping on this, but I don't see any difference between going west and then coming east and going east and then coming west. The distances and number of stops are the same.
  5. So I take, from the lack of response, that people just don't care about west coast fans. Typical east coast bias.
  6. Was there as much fan criticism of The Cavaliers in the early 00s as there is of BD today or The Cadets (when they have won with shows that were out of the mainstream)? Or did people generally like The Cavaliers when they were dominating? It seems like during the early 00s, The Cavaliers shows were notably different in style from other corps, but probably not radically different like some have perceived BD and Cadet shows to be. I imagine there probably was some angst from people that were tired of them winning every year, and feeling like their shows were gimmicky (I loved them, for the record), but my guess is that there was not the "this will be the end of drum corps" rhetoric like there is now. The fact that the internet was not nearly as pervasive during that period probably changed the dynamic a little too. Is my assessment right, or were things about the same then as they are now?
  7. I completely agree. It would great if there were more access to the judge's reasoning ... or at least some kind of explanation for why one thing is judged to be better than another. I doubt they would ever release tapes, but I would love it if they did.
  8. If I included the Scouts, everyone would have voted for the Scouts. Now, that wouldn't be very interesting, would it?
  9. Oh give me a freaking break.... blah blah blah...people don't like something then they boo--it's happened a long time in this activity. They have a right to do it and if you don't like it too #### bad. Too much bs "political correctness" around here... CM And I have a right to say it is classless and rude. Free speech works both ways ... live with it.
  10. Someone pushes your straw man over, and you run away like a little kid. Show me where anyone accused you or anyone else of hating BD or shut up already. All the anti-booing comments I have seen here could be applied if any other corps had taken 1st. This has nothing to do with the fact that it is BD that won.
  11. Where has anyone said that people HATE BD? Yes, obviously several people hate BD's show, and I don't think anyone here would question why that is. Where has anyone said that the boos are motivated by pure hate for BD, as opposed to hating (or disliking) BD's show? Setting up straw men is a great past time. It is a lot of fun to knock them down when no one is there to hold them up. It makes people feel really good about themselves.
  12. I have not seen anyone here accuse people of hating BD. Why do you keep suggesting that people are saying that? Regardless of your motivation, booing is rude, classless, and pathetic. It is a cowardly way to shame someone into changing their actions.
  13. How is that any different than western corps having to go east and then back west to get home?
  14. Have you ever been booed? I find it funny that all the people defending the booers here are Crown alumni/fans. Coincidence?
  15. There are major shows, where nearly all the WC corps compete, in Minnesota, San Antonio, Atlanta, Allentown, and of course Indy. With the number of corps in the west, why isn't there an opportunity for fans in the west to go to a major show? I know it costs a lot to move corps from the east coast to the west, but the west coast corps move east every year. It seems like it would make it more fair for everyone (and would boost the number of fans in the west) if all the corps started the season with a big show in the west and then moved east, finally ending up in finals. If you can't afford to do a national tour, then drop down to Open Class. I certainly am disappointed that the nearest major DCI show is two time zones away from where I live.
  16. I agree. And even if people try to justify it by arguing they are booing the judges, it is still rude and classless. The judges don't get paid that much and put in a lot of work. Judging isn't easy. There are better ways to express your disagreement.
  17. Without accounting for difficulty, execution, or who you think should score higher than other corps, rank the show designs (music + drill) this year from favorite to less favorite. Here are mine: 1. SCV 2. BAC 3. BD 4. Jersey Surf 5. The Academy 6. Phantom 7. Scouts 8. Bluecoats 9. Crown 10. Blue Knights 11. Cavaliers 12. Crossmen 13. Spirit of Atlanta 14. The Cadets (if they took out Jingle Bells, I would move it up a lot)
  18. BAC hasn't really dropped, have they? They made finals for the first time in 1999, and have finished between 5-10 every year since.
  19. I agree completely that Crown's show design is very overrated. It is actually one of my least favorite of the top 12 corps. Part of that is because I don't really like Fanfare or find the song that exciting. They are performing it very well though, and deserve to be getting the scores they are getting. It is an incredibly difficult show, and they are doing it very well. I just don't like the show that much. It is my least favorite CC show in the last 5 years ... 2008 (Candide) is my favorite,
  20. My vote was for the Crossmen. I think they have a good staff and have the potential to recruit some good local talent to move up over the next few years.
  21. Yeah, that is why I didn't include Boston or Madison on the list. They both have been there multiple times before, and Boston has been right outside the top 6 for quite a while. It wouldn't be a big jump for them. I considered leaving BK off too, but figured it would be pretty impressive for them to move up that much too.
  22. No question it would be hard, but Crown did it within the last 10 years, so it isn't impossible.
