  1. I was just watching the video of Madison's 1996 and was wondering how come they marched 8 tenors? The only reason I'm questioning it as because its "different" so to say. Was there a reason for having so many? Not hating on it though!
  2. These new System Blue Kings look dead nice! Can't wait to hear what sound they produce.
  3. Is it like a Kelly Screamer?
  4. Is this "cheater" the black attachment normally next to the mouthpiece area? Or am I thinking of something completely different. Cheers for the help guys.
  5. I've been playing for 10 years, I try and get an hour or more each day. I play for drum corps, not got the time for anything else but maybe in years to come I would be interested in jazz ensembles etc. I can project quite well, and maybe sometimes too well. It gets refered to as Rock Trumpet! I'd say I have a good tone. So basically loud with good quality. I'm not so good at double tounging, its improved alot in the past year but I'd never had to do it since then. Then my range is not too bad, but I'd love to be able to play up the register more comfortably as its quite hit and miss.
  6. Hi all, I've been on about buying a new mouthpiece (trumpet) for awhile now but I haven't a clue about them. I want something that will help with range aswell as keeping quality which to be honest is something that most trumpet players would like. I just don't know where to start when it comes to looking at different makes and different sizes etc. Any recommendations? Cheers
  7. Our only intention with the tour was the experience of it all, I am assuming that when you mean the "upper echelon range" you are on about the corps at the top of the tables which we had no intention of playing with especially as we didn't know how the tour would turn out and where we would lie amongst the rest of the corps. Back onto topic of course as our tour hopefully didn't have anything to do with rivalries.
  8. I noticed some of this rivalry stuff at the Brideport show, I think the corps who I won't name as I'll probably get it wrong showed their "emotions" as we were warming up. But in the end of the day they didn't know us and no harm was taken.
  9. I like this, remember drum and bugles corps have played music and marched shows back then and now regardless of the key of the horns etc.
  10. I didn't get fully what you were trying to say in the last statement. All I am saying is that as we're all experienced with drum corps we should all be able to make a decision on what is a drum corps or not. An example if I saw a marching unit with saxaphones then I wouldn't call it a drum corps. Also in the UK you get alot of show bands/show corps which are all drum corps styled but are not refered to as a drum and bugle corps.
  11. Your very right in your last statement, but for the purpose of example I couldn't describe it in another way. It is good to know that every corps gets talked about, I know the feeling having my roots from a small local corps to then seeing what is it like on the other end of the spectrum. It would be great to see some more action throughout the board and not just the top 3 placing battles. As you say, every corps has its purpose and has earned their right to compete so it would be great to see everyone winning their own battles.
  12. We all can't wait to come back over Tom. For all who haven't seen, this is our 2012 DCA Tour Annoucement video -
  13. http://dynastyband.com/ There you go, have faith they've brought out a lovely brand new website!
  14. Let's put this into context when you say drum and bugle corps, what do you think of? The high school marching band doing a parade down the local street or the likes of the Blue Devils in a big stadium with a big crowd? I don't think there is no need to confuse this, if an orchestra wanted to use G Bugles you'd still call them an orchestra. I think people get too uptight about this, I think we all know what is a drum and bugle corps and what isn't.
  15. I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere in the thread as I havent read all the posts but I think it would be good for the activity to see alot of strong competition at the bottom end of World Class. These corps don't get as much mention as the likes of the G8 would be good to hear about how they have all been fighting for the highest place they could possibly get. Without these corps imagine how small the organisation would be, its the same over in the UK, without the smaller corps the activity would be tiny and I've had the pleasure to teach one of the smaller and younger corps and got to see how they have had competition of their own which isn't as known as the bigger corps like myself being in Kidsgrove.
  16. Nice job with them videos Laura, can't wait to get the show on the road again.
  17. The Kidsgrove Scouts' 2011 production is entitled The Summit.

  18. can't wait for tomorrows rehearsal with Kidsgrove :)

  19. Dynasty are having a new website, they're just sorting out a couple of things out with it and then it should be up before Christmas atleast as far as I know.
  20. At our banquet when this video came on, I thought it was either just looking at the DCA tour or the 2011 show annoucement, I think my mouth dropped to the floor as soon as it mentioned DCA 2012! Can't wait to come back over!
  21. Are there any reasonings for having this ToC thing? What happend to equal opportunities for all etc?
  22. Can anyone help out a confused Brit? Whats this whole Tour of Champions, are they exclusive events only for what you call the "G8"? Surely putting a divide like that is quite negative for the organisation?
  23. Cheers guys, it really does mean alot to us over here in the UK. We will never forget your support as it meant so much to us, good luck with the winter and summer seasons coming up.
