  1. Maybe - maybe not. We'll see. DCA has to be asking if the gamble is worth taking.
  2. I just found out about this. So - we're seeing this extolled as change, and as we are so often told, 'change is good' - but in the grand scheme of things, this isn't change at all. This is about making things the same - as DCI. No variations. All vanilla. I think DCA may have misread their fanbase on this one. We'll see.
  3. Hi. We have a young, new drum corps and we are looking for sources for Bb shoulder euphs (mini tuba-contra). I know these are popular in Japan but not sure if they are available here (we're in Canada). I would prefer to buy second-hand as we're being cautious on the budget. Thanks! Jim Scout House Cadets
  4. Saying the designers design to placate the judges almost makes them sound like victims. They are not. Let's not forget who put forward the rules that drove the design of the rule sheets. They are getting exactly what they wanted.
  5. My mistake - apparently that's not new. Passed in 2010. Just one more reason. BTW the petition just passed 4,000 signatures. Seems I'm not alone.
  6. Really? Please show me how kids have flocked to drum corps saying "oh thank God they finally allowed amps". Yeah - none, that's right. Now show me how many have stopped buying tickets because of amps. Yeah, lots, that's right again. Unless you want to prove that everyone who has claimed this is an inveterate liar. Now show me how many corps have folded under the financial weight of the touring model. Lots - again.
  7. Guardling - that's been the basis of my concern for years. The touring model that was solidified by DCI is what killed corps. That DCI is continually tinkering with the instrumentation in a feeble effort to fix the hemorrhaging of corps from the activity is not only driving away a much needed fan base, it's also a sad testament to the fact that they don't want to address the real issue. The DCI business model is not viable - it hasn't kept pace with the times. Innovation, if it can be called that, with amps and mics is meaningless if they are not willing to change the basics of how they operate. Maybe too many salaries are at stake????
  8. And I just read on Facebook that Hopkins proposed a "woodinds in the preshow" rule that passed 22-2? Do we have confirmation of this?
  9. Charlie - you would need evidence to make that kind of a statement. You have none, only conjecture. OTOH we have firm evidence of how many corps have been lost under the current regime.
  10. JimF - that was the old me - this is the sensitive new-age me. Peace, my brother - the unicorns and dolphins love you.
  11. As far as I know this is the first IE 11 problem I've had. Not a big deal. Thanks for the info though. Sorry for the OT, mods.
  12. I loved the trombone player jokes and Hockey Dad's post about the pom pom squad. Normally I would "like" your posts but it seems I have exceeded my allotment of positivity for the day.
  13. I used to be proud of my drum corps history but it's turning into an embarrassment when we talk about DCI. I bugged out after 2005 because of the electronics etc. Came back a couple of years ago to give it another try, and now with this news, I'm done. No coming back this time unless some serious stupidity is reversed.
  14. The Scout House Cadets drumline has just wrapped up a very successful first year with appearances in local parades and exhibitions in the Scout House Spring Show and Tattoo, the St. John's Alumni 60th reunion, and at Kitchener's Centre in the Square. Now we are looking forward to 2014. First thing is a slight change of name. With the first practice of the new season under out belts, we are very excited to announce the addition of a hornline. We are now the Scout House Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps! The hornline is under the direction of Bill Graham. Bill has a long career in drum corps, marching in several corps including the Guelph Royalaires and Niagara Regionnaires and has taught in many more, including the Hamilton Conqueror II corps, which under Bill's guidance rose from a brand new corps in 1983 to be Canadian Champions in 1984. Bill is assisted by Sally Ascroft, who was taught by Mr. Bill in Conqueror II and also marched in Royalaires. Sally is currently a marching member of the Scout House Alumni Corps. We have added a Visual Caption Head. Gaelen Swartz has joined us after marching in Blue Saints, Pioneer, Empire Statesmen and the Chesapeake indoor drumline. Gaelen brings both field drum corps and indoor drumline experience to the table, and for the upcoming season, we will need both! The percussion staff includes Jim Pratt as Caption Head and snare tech, Tim Chartrand, quad tech, Ralph Ullman, bass tech and Diane McHutchison, cymbal tech The Cadet management team is headed up by Chantalle Joyce, Cindy Rossignoli and Eleanor Cherry. Our plans for this year include local parades, participation in the Drumline Ontario indoor circuit as well as exhibitions in local shows such as the prestigious Scout House annual Tattoo. looking forward to 2015, we plan to go from a standstill to full indoor drumline show, and move into the new DCI SoundSport division, which is a great way for young, smaller drum corps like ours to enter the competitive arena. Lots of great stuff is happening in Cambridge as we continue on our steady, measured growth as a fully fledged drum and bugle corps. Stay tuned!

  16. No - Dutch Boy. Right country though!
  17. I don't know if this is what they did, but our guard used baby powder folded up in the flags. When you spin them the powder hangs in the air like smoke. Very cool "explosive" effect.
  18. I thought SCV was taking guard captions now? I want SCV to win and Cadets to come second, I also want Troopers to be in finals. But in the immortal words of the Rolling Stones...
  19. This doesn't take into account all the local circuit shows. DCI wasn't the only game in town back then. We had a dozen or more CDCA and ODCA shows in my Canadian province alone every year.
  20. Beat me to it. My sentence was going to be "Recognize that the first two initials of the organization are "DC" and not "WG".
