  1. High school programs were using the background check process well before drum corps. Has it eliminated abuse there? As I said it's mostly a legal CYA action.
  2. I think the idea of having a DCI paid ombudsperson at every corps is a good one. A person independent of the corps who's accessible to every member could potentially be a very valuable resource for both members and staff. Maybe a "problem member" is really a "problem instructor". But would there really be people willing to assume that role for the token salary that position would inevitably be paid?
  3. It sounds easy to have a shared database of "problem" members. But accountability is a real thing (for the entity maintaining the list and for the corps submitting data to the list). Good ideas are good until you get down to implementation. Then reality sets in. Just ask anyone who's written software for the health care industry. What sort of problems can be reported? How are they documented? Who is authorized to see, add or remove MM's from the list? And most importantly: who's liable if a MM appears on (or is absent from) the list and something bad happens. As for due diligence (like Lab immediately posted about Boston) -- that's been going on forever (all the way down to the smallest school activity) and quite frankly it's a joke. Unless someone has been convicted of a serious offense, they're going to pass right through those checks. And even in that case, many offenders successfully get records expunged after doing their obligatory community service. And we're just talking adults here. MM's are in general completely in the clear as juvenile records might as well not exist for background checks. Background checks are mostly CYA theater.
  4. How about a show called "influencers" which twists the modern interpretation with pieces from composers who greatly influenced western music (with the caveat that no one else has played it before). Visual / storyline stays with the modern spin but the music does not (until the closer perhaps?) I'll put my 2 cents in with this particular arrangement of G. Gabrieli to open the program: Could you imagine hearing CrownBrass playing this? Only one word would suffice: GLORIOUS !
  5. (from insta) Don't miss your chance for a in-person CrownGUARD audition! Happening this 𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗬 in Greenwood, Indiana! 6. Agree. Also … Bringing Sully in as an advisor adds all his creative strengths without any of the …shall we say challenges He and Jeff also have a long working relationship. Glad to see Tyler getting a seat at the design table. IMHO you need to have a balance of experience and fresh perspectives. Crown is always tweaking. Last year was fun to watch because the excellence really drove the effect as the season ended.
  7. However there are still strong ties to Paramount with a lot of crossover staff members: Tyler Edrington Molly Favret-Edrington Katie Hopkins Madison Adcock Jeff Sacktig Byron Valentine Carrie Smith Also interesting to note the addition of Marc Sylvester in a consulting role. Will be interesting to see the design fielded by this visual team. I can envision (a) a more coherent visual design (b) improved guard staging (c) perhaps a more balanced approach to effect (d) more consistent attention to details.
  8. Crown finally got around to updating their Staff Page. Design team includes: Reid Atkinson, Program Coordinator Michael Klesch, Music Director, Brass Arranger Mike Martin, Brass Arranger Kevin Shah, Front Ensemble Arranger, Sound Design Mike Jackson, Batter Arranger, Choreographer Sean McElroy, Staff & Ensemble Coordinator Andy Ebert, Production Supervisor Jeff Sacktig, Visual Director, Drill Design Tyler Edrington, Color Guard, Visual Design Molly Favret-Edrington, Aesthetics, Visual Design Byron Valentine, Visual Design Consultant Marc Sylvester, Visual Design Consultant Greg Bimm, Music Consultant
  9. Remember that the percussion change last season was late enough that many broken city vets were already committed elsewhere. Will be interesting to watch the level of talent coming in this season.
  10. Crown West Coast percussion audition camp schedule for TOMORROW! Please check out the website for more information regarding registration ➡
  11. Literally no Crown fan has used that term in more than year. It's mostly Boston folks who use it (Craiga, Labmaster, Barneveld). Man do facts SUCK! In fact it looks like YOU are the most frequent user of the the term "poaching" in the past year ! I saw only 3 or 4 posts by Crown fans in the results for the past 5 years!
  12. Literally no Crown fan has used that word in more than year. It's mostly Boston folks who use it. Man do facts SUCK!
  13. Only makes sense if you read the original posts from the Boston fans (which actually did make it sound like it was something they invented). Anyway you are correct (and kind of making the point I was making if in a more round about way. Very silly indeed.
  14. No doubt. Doesn't make it less visible though. Anyone who says "Boston looks nothing like Crown" is just taking a dip in the river in Egypt! As a Crown fan it sure is weird to see on the field and is a large part of the "Crown North" perception. As for it happening elsewhere... SCV under Gaines did NOT look like Cavies/Gaines to me at all.
  15. Because of exactly what started this little sidetrack: Boston fans constantly bringing up Crown. Additional reasons: (1) their shows and uniforms look precisely like Crown shows of the past (2) their admin seems to hire everyone that Crown parts ways with (most recently Hannum and Ancona). Since Crown moved on from those guys there's no angst here just an observation. (3) Boston adopted Crown's spring training regime (ie move in to a small remote college, live in the dorms, etc... I see posts from Boston fans bragging about all this but it's just an exact copy of what Crown has done for many, many years at Gardner Webb. I mean it makes sense because it works well but it's just exactly the same setup as that team had at Crown (4) It's funny as hell . How's that for a start? And I know I'm going to get the standard reply (Boston has their own identity blah blah blah). Let me tell you -- that identity may be there internally but from everything you see publicly...well it's there for anyone to see. Sic sequitur Crown North. It's not an insult -- it's literally a description. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I guess. <donning flame suit now> ps. sorry but you asked...
  16. Not sure why you posted all that… pretty much everyone is over the Potter team leaving. My one and only comment here was that Boston fans just can’t stop bringing up Crown. The rest of it is old news. No one cares.
  17. People will poo-poo this but the run back to Boston after the BOA clinic sucked. Crown loved doing the parades on the 4th and all but remember there were also YEA shows to soften the blow and they just don't exist anymore. Also Crown now does two more clinics after BOA -- one in the ATL area and then one at WCU. It's actually a much better schedule than hauling ### to Boston and then heading towards to FirstBeat. So whatever the initial reasons for the change (and yes they were petty and childish) , the current tour schedule works way better for them. I don't see them going back.
  18. Hey man I just pointed out that it was "interesting" that only Boston fans were discussing rumors about Crown. Didny say anything like "Only Crown fans are permitted to discuss Crown" which is a ridiculous thing to say. Yeah I took the bait but hey it's the off season!
  19. Lol that's the best you can you do ? " I know we are but you are too" ? To be fair that probably was true for a couple seasons after the Potter team left but the posts this off season by Crown fans contradict your assertion. In fact add during season to that assertion. Do you actually read the Crown thread (just kidding I know you do!) ? No one talks about Boston. No one cares. In fact Crown fans mostly talk about (this is shocking) Crown! Maybe GrandPa goes rogue on occasion. But we all have a family member who's a little embarrassing sometimes 🙄 As for 2023 being a huge deviation for Crown....ummm.... I mean they moved up one whole place. Huge deviation in course. Year before? 4th. In fact here's the past 5 seasons: 3,4,4,4,3. Plot the line. What course are you talking about? You're just grasping at straws here.
  20. Don’t pick on Jeff. He is very proud of himself for confusing a definition for a prediction every single season. ( I sort of miss seeing him run around the field trying avoid a collision for an entire show!!!!. He knows I love him)
  21. Exactly where did I say that? Just wholesale making stuff up. BAC fans here are fixated on Crown (which is one of many reasons “Crown North” is such an accurate description). I suspect they have posted about Crown at a rate around 10:1 vs their own corps since the season ended 😳 Go Crown 👑!
  22. Maybe they’re letting Crown post changes when all the proverbial ducks are in a row. What I find more interesting is the affiliation of those who just can’t stop bringing up Crown Anyway…..There’s plenty going on and I’m sure when things are ready the news will be made official Best of luck to Rick Subel; he and his team are doing wonderful things at Paramount.
