  1. Thanks jwillis and 2000Cadet! I'm pretty new to posting in this forum, so thanks for being welcoming!
  2. Just got back from the show and it seems like no one was really saying much about the show, so I'll attempt my first ever review. I was on side 2 about the 30 yard line in the next to last row of the stands. An older women was sitting in front of my with one of those stadium seat things. It hung off the back of her bleacher and took up about 3/4 of the space in front of me. oh well. I persevered thanks to the wonderful couple sitting next to me scooting down a bit. Weather: At least the rain held out. I felt about 5 drops during Boston but that was about it. It didn't seem windy in the stands, but it must have been on the field. During the Cadets show the color tower fabric was blowing around and someone lost a plume. Coastal Surge - I was impressed with this new corps, they had their first rehearsal EVER in February. Wow! Blend was great for such a small ensemble of about 25 horn players. Drums were fairly solid, not the most technical book but well executed. Very nice showing. I wish they could stay out and play some more shows. Legends - Ichabod (based on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow) - I enjoyed the musical selections from this show. Grainger is a favorite composer of mine and Schumann's Chester Overture can't be beat. But it lost a lot of energy, I think, because the corps just had a rough show. But still a fun show to watch! Boston - RISE - Whew! What a show! I was captivated by the whole show, except for the end, where the reproduce the beginning by laying down and 'rising' up again. It totally threw me for a loop. The energy was building towards the end, and then... it stopped... and tried to build back up again, but I just wasn't feeling it. Although, I will say this is a great show. And I can't wait to see what kind of changes/additions they make to the show and their uniforms (I've heard various rumors that they will evolve over the summer. Cadets - Side by Side - As everyone has already said, it's a excellent show. Also, the mellophone soloist is wonderful. Cleaning and adding things will take it to the next level. My concern with this show is peaking too early. The drill is fairly clean, a lot of forms hit nice tonight. The hornline is solid, a few dirty things to fix up, but nothing serious by any means. The drums ROCK. I'm still not sold on the color tower props. We'll see how they grow on me. If they can keep their energy going, this will be a contender during Finals. Fantastic show!! Phantom - Triumphant Journey - I'm still not sure if I like this show. My biggest gripe is the tree props. About 8 hornline members carried these props for about a minute, through their drill, while playing, before handing them off to the guard members who used them for what seemed like only a few seconds and then it was over and drum line carried them off during the beginning of Nimrod (which was AWESOME). My interest peaked as the show went on. The closer was great. with little drum features here and there. If they could edit some of the first half of the show, I would not hate it. Bluecoats - ... to look for America - This show is pretty awesome. I think tonight the corps had a rough run. But even with that, everything is in place for them to be a big contender come August. The three quarter spin they do into the first hit of the opener is SICK. What an impact. I think I need to watch this show again to get everything in. The bleachers are a GREAT visual tool. There are a ton of angles on them, and they are huge. But yet they are never overbearing in the show (something that the Cadets color towers could do). The hornline seemed to lose their spunk as the show went on. I'd like to see another run of it. One last thought, the pit was mic'd SOOOO LOUD. Like, I think I could hear them breathing. Encore - The Bluecoats came back out and played the opener and closer of the show, hearing it again gave me a better impression of the music. Then Autumn Leaves, a fun arrangement of American Idiot, and they left us with The Boxer. I was happy about that. Overall a very enjoyable show where I saw some old friends and made some new ones, and isn't that what it's all about? I hope my opinions have been a little insightful or at least enjoyable to read. Can't wait for the rest of the season!!!
  3. Looks like the weather is going to be ok for the most part. Most likely a passing thunderstorm around 7 and the mostly cloudy from 8 on, according to AccuWeather. Looks like I'm making the trip from State College!
  4. YES! I am so happy for the Cadets! As well as all of the other corps this season! It was definitely a great year for Drum Corps! So Many Good Shows!!!!!!!!!!
  5. It is too bad. He has been out for a few weeks. He was battling his injury the whole season. He was trying to push through it until the trainer told him that he couldn't do it anymore. And, as far as the show design is concerned, it makes it seem like the Demons have an unfair advantage because they have one extra person. But then it's ok when the Angels come form behind to win in the end!
  6. On the Cadets website they have an article that the write everyday. Today's article was accompanied by a synopsis of what it is like to shower on tour. I found it quite amusing. http://www.yea.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=19768&news_iv_ctrl=1741
  7. OH MY GOD PHANTOM! First chills of the night!! Holy brass!!!
  8. They are finishing the show. No rain since intermission. Phantom coming on now
  9. Just announced no mass encore :(. I am sad Also no fan voting
  10. Crown was great! Rain during their show. Not a completel downpour tho. Cadets were fantastic. The cleanest I've seen them. Which is how it should be. BD on now
  11. Bring him home makes me melt. I wish people wouldn't clap so I could hear every last second of that solo. Mmhmm
  12. Vanguard just got done. This this is really growing on me. I love the ballad. Not sure about the people running around the field. Its just a little too much for me. Boston up now
