  1. Smart move, not worth it. But I doubt will be hearing anything from Bobby in the near future.
  2. Yes I know. Great person besides a talent
  3. We had our share of mishaps with them, lots of lost shakos. I remember we were in montreal and it was pouring. The rings got soaked, and were hanging low, we lost a lot of shakos that day LOL
  4. I have openly stated that Cadets have become to literal. Some years over the past 10 the have been not so literal. But in the years they have its overbearing. Let the product, music, drill, guard, percussion speak for themselves. For the most part, I think the average person already knows what the story of the music you are playing is about. Just do not shove it down my throat. That said, Cadets are not the only culprits. Why is there a need these days to tell a story? I get it if you are playing Phantom, Les Miz. etc. Give the audience a chance and not be bombarded. They/we are a bit smarter than given credit for.
  5. You hit the operative word sir............... subjective, Does a score dictate best? No. I totally agree with your reasoning, PR and otherwise. There should be more people with your enlightenment .
  6. Exactly. Make refrence points but not oversell literally. Make a monster hornline and an in your face percussion line with a solid guard and an in you face drill.
  7. I think it is perfect time to lol experiment and buck the trend. I think Waterfront is powerfull, yet beautiful. Make it solid, fierce and beautiful.
  8. The ballad is a beautiful piece of music. Contrasts the volatile of the remainder of the score. Brilliant score by Mr. Bernstein.
  9. Hence why I said, what do they have to lose. Bring it and say WTF, you don't like it, so be it. I preface that with, they better be monsters at clean and don't give a rats ### what judges think. I think If they pulled out a CADET show............score or not, they will be cowd favorites.
  10. What would they have to lose by bucking the trend at this point. Don't get me wrong, I love what is currently happening in DCI. But it would be awesome for Cadets to do Waterfront, a powerfull story and music and just say ya know what. Here ya go.
  11. Agree on the ballad. After that, shove it in their face with a powerfull drill and hornline
  12. Put the traditional uniforms on. Bring a solid ferocious piece of music. Say go for it. AKA what Waterfront is actually about. March a kick ### drill with a solid music book. And say ya know what, this is us. Don't like it. TUff.
  13. I agree. But given the current state of body movement, etc. it may be a tuff sell. I am with you tho. Play to the strength of the corps. There is so much potential for a Waterfront show. I agree, subtle. But it is a powerfull piece, They have nothing to lose. Go solid Cadets, demanding drill, musicality. Maybe, just maybe, do Cadets and say WTF, you don't like it. so be it. Take a risk and throw it out there. Do a version of, if not exact Cadets uniform. Say, this is who we are. Bring it. BTW, I have a set of the fabric of the boxing rings George.
  14. I will never criticize any corps. It is human nature to like certain things and dislike certain things. One thing I will never do is be negative to a corps. If I am not enthralled with a show. I keep it to myself. I , to be honest was not a huge fan early on of this years Crown. After seeing them thru the season, All I can say is, WOW. One of the GREATEST horn lines ever. The show has and continues to grow on me. I can get by the vocal mishap. Does not take away the brilliance. Were they clean marching........... they could have been cleaner. That said, this corps, as they have already proven will continue to be a monster.
  15. It would be interesting what the Bernstein Foundation has to say the way it is portrayed.
  16. I think a full fledged On The Waterfront would be great. As one that marched 86, I think the music was only touched. it may be a bit dark in todays standards. but given the right treatment, and not going overboard in a cheesy way...............would have potential to be awesome
  17. Pushing the 2018 Cadets page closer to 1,000 with Mel Brooks! who would have thought
  18. LOL I can recite the movie, verbatim. When I was in my younger years, when I used to teach on a regular basis my band. At camp, our staff nightly staples were History of the World, Holy Grail and Fast Times. Heck, probably my most watched movies ever. On VHS in a cabin in the woods lol
  19. I am with you there Terri! LOL I t would be hilarious if a corps had the balls to do a Mel Brooks musical
  20. send in the nuns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! younger generation wont get the classic we are talking about Terri
  21. It's what you auldnt do but you do anyway
  22. HMMMMMMMMmmmmm a bit of Mel brooks seems appropriate. auto de fe, whats an auto de fe
