  1. I see your point and where you are coming from... and i can't beleive I left out John Gifford from Tarheel Sun/Carolina Gold.
  2. I knew that you would appreciate that...
  3. Many of us could have marched Division 1 corps, and now that ECJ has folded many of us will march Div 1 corps. But there was something special about the corps atmousphere that kept us around, and obviously something special enough to draw people to come march here. For instance, during my years at ECJ we had kids from the following corps.... Cadets, Spartans, Crossmen, Kiwanis, Magic of Orlando, Blue Devils, Boston Crusaders, Raiders, Yamato, Jersey Surf, Americanos, Targets, Citations, 7th Regiment, Joilet Kingsmen, Marion Glory, Dutch Boy, Spirit of Newark... and i know i'm missing a couple. Anyways, my point is that this was a corps that people wanted to go to. Most of us didn't want to be forced to march somewhere else.
  4. Most of the staff was volenteer, or got payed next to nothing
  5. I've got a couple years left, so i'm going to try out for Div 1... and when i don't make it i'll play real life and get a job in the engineering field.
  6. GOOD times, but it was definitely time for a rebuilding year. Oh well...
  7. Yeah i was just confused because I got an email from management saying that the corps folded... and then the very next morning all of a sudden ECJ was going back out in 07'. I wish them good luck, and I'm glad their attempt for the 07' season is now cleared up.
  8. Uhhmmmmm.... i'm so confused. I'll just wait to hear an official word.
  9. I'm not sure how that happened, but i posted under Tony's name. The previous post is mine. Sorry for any confusion due to the fact that half the corps lives in or around my house.
  10. That truck is a pit's worst nightmare. At one time we were loading 3 marimbas and a couple vibes on the second level. As in lifting them up onto a truck that's not a lowrider in the first place wasn't bad enough... Disaster. Plus the torque from the truck is much worse on the second story causing the resonators to take an absolute beating. Goodluck with the renovating!
  11. I don't think it is a secret... and if it was it's out now. 9 snares 5 bass 4 tenors 0 cymbals (we have enough in the pit) As of now... 6 marimbas 6 vibes 1 xylo 2 rackers 1 timp and a partridge in a pear tree Correct: "We don't need no stinking amps!"
  12. Numbers aren't too important, but now that we're on the topic... I think it's safe to say that ECJ's pit has more people than most small nations.
  13. Haha. You were scared... and i wasn't even yelling at you.
  14. What does it matter to you. If you don't like their style, keep your comments to yourself. There is no reason for you to go around trying to bring the integrity of other corps down.
  15. If i remember correctly, isn't that the only year ECJ hasn't made finals since 95 or 96? Not to mention that drumline was... eek. Decent hornline though. I guess whatever floats your boat.
  16. I think in my 4 years of marching ECJ i only saw 2 people that actually got cut because of talent (both were in the pit), but maybe i'm missing one or two that i don't remember. Anyways, you don't need to cut 20-30 members to be good, or even 5 for that matter. We cut less than 5 in 4 years! A good staff can do the job just fine. As for retention, i've never seen an ECJ open house with over 100 members. So i guess we're just weird but we seem to hold the same amount of kids throughout the season. Obviously MANY different bodies come in and out to get that number but it's relatively the same.
  17. I showed up to watch the pit for a little while and that's all i saw, but they had a great turn out. The most mallet players at an ECJ open house since probably ever. I'm sure they'll keep the ECJ Pit legacy going.
  18. Not even close to the money div I receives. Div I gets roughly $2,500 per show that they do. Div II/III gets a certain amount of money per show and then it put into a big pot which is split at the end of the season, and the result of that is usually a grand total of $2000 per corps. TOTAL, not per show. BUT, and it's a big but... if a II/III corps performs at a div one show they get roughly $1500. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure that's how it works. So for whatever reason, the rich just get richer.
  19. Sorry let me clearify my statement. When i said the right to own a ring i don't mean DCI's permission, i mean the unwritten wule that the world champions should get a ring for the season.... not the second place corps, or the winner of a preliminary competition, or the spririt of disney award winner and so on and so forth. And i have no doubt that spartans will get a ring, in fact i also heard that information myself. If it will make them feel special i'm all for it.
  20. And Gossiping about hatred? Most of us like eachother. Take a look at the percussion sections during grand finals retreat. We were intermingled in one long 20 yard arch, and both groups congratulated eachother for there victories. Good times...
  21. Before i start, this is not meant to come off ofensive or mean spirited at all. You are correct in saying that the format was a little screwy on DCI's part. As for the rights to the ring it goes to ECJ. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying and is probably from the Spartans organization or a parent of friend who has talked to someone in the Spartans oganization. Spartans gets the gold medal for thursday night which for the past 30 years has meant nothing except saying that you won the show before finals. However East Coast won the World championship (the last show of the season) at Grand Finals and get the ring, banner, and the revolving trophie.... Oh and the oppertunity to participate in Div one retreat. So now that this situation is all cleared up thank you all for a great season ESPECIALLY Spartans! It was one heck of a sprint to the finish.
