  1. If Madison wants to be in the top 8, they're gonna have to play something else other than Malguena. Time to find a new identity.
  2. Still think that's a ridiculous statement to say In 2008 they should have been 2nd to BD. Phantom had no business winning. 2009 yeah the show wasn't there, and 3/4 of the hornline were just out of high school, but still topped over SCV because their show was too easy. 2010 Solid 2nd place hands down 2011 They were pretty #### clean visually. Musically maybe not so much. But still wholistically better than Crown. I see zero slotting going in the past. They worked just as hard as everyone else and got what they deserved. Cavaliers would not be placing where they are now if there was. Plus I'm pretty sure there were a decent amount of judges that didn't like what was going on with the program. Which leaves me to belive that they've been waiting for this kind of year for awhile now.
  3. Mad World was definitely not slotting. They were in a solid 2nd place by the end.
  4. You're right. Other than performing for 4 years, I've only been a spectator at a few shows. Probably no more than 5 or 6
  5. Thats kind of hard to believe. Most of the people who come to the shows are band directors who bring their students. But regardless of the statistics involved, the goal should be to make an impact on the students. Which every corps does. I just believe the Cavaliers help target a different group of people. As a "high school jock" I wasn't really into marching band (it was forced on me by my father). Music didn't appeal to me at all. And in 2004 my dad suggested I go to a dci show. I fought him on it, but once again I was forced to. Needless to say the show that caught my eye was 007. They were doing things visually and musically I never thought about. (I was blown away by everyone, but they stuck out more than anyone else). So that kind of opened my imagination to other kinds of music. Which made me go out for the corps the following year. Fortunately for me I was accepted into the hornline. Point is, I honestly think doing shows that younger kids can relate to is the best way to get them interested. So give them a break on their new ending. Stop seeing the things they do as gimmicks and just see it as entertainment. My rant is over lol :)
  6. By tiresome, you mean unable to come with A reason why I'm wrong?
  7. I hope it does change some. There are a few moves in there that the dance could do without lol
  8. Regardless of what you or your friends thought, they still got a hell of a reaction for it. Keep in mind, people go to be entertained and the audience was obviously entertained by their production. The only people who probably disliked it were drum corps snobs and old school band directors. Anybody seeing a drum corps show for the first time would definitely think its cool. This message board is such a small percentage of drum corps fan base, so i usually take peoples opinions on here with a grain of salt.
  9. By "younger children" I mean kids who'll be interested in joining in about 2-5 years. I highly doubt kids today would be interested in a 1990's show at all. If you want to grab their attention you're going to need something modern, Like dub step. Yeah its not we you'd call "real music", but it helps with catching their attention and opening doors for them to listen to new things. And the "older legacy" people know how much the activity meant to them and they'll do whatever they can to keep it alive. Even pay ridiculous prices to watch the shows. And as alumni of the activity, you should understand where i'm coming from when I say appeal to the younger crowd. they're the future of the activity.
  10. Sorry I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Let me better explain my statement. The Cavaliers and Blue Devils seem to be are the innovators in the activity (minus cadets in 2005). And since they have such absurd/different ways of thinking visually/musically, they get critisized more than other about how they're not playing "traditional drum corps music" or putting music before visual. Sorry but there's only so many times i can hear a variation on ave maria and west side story. Blue Devils opened the audiences ears to a different kind of approach to music and everyone HATED it. Especially since they were (and still are) dominating the activity with it. Cavaliers stepped up and changed the activity with their geometric drill and emphasis on being visually appealing. THATS the kind of different thinking im talking about. And it's obviously frowned upon by a lot of people. Mostly the elderly seeing as how they don't like change. You all call playing upside down and dancing at the end of your show instead of playing a 20 second chord a "ridiculous gimmick". I call it "you're just mad because your favorite corps didn't think of it first"
  11. Just because you made up a word doesn't mean you're not bias. All you did was make up a name based off of facts and not your opinion. It'd be different if you came up with the name if they were your favorite corps.
  12. I was referring to "you" as in MAJORITY of the people on this board. I don't have time to remember who said what about who. All i know is this message board is an anti blue devils and cavaliers board. Which are the two corps who have a different way of thinking than everyone else.
  13. First off, the Cavaliers sitting in 7th place should let you know that there are ZERO of these "politics" you speak of going on. Next to Blue Devils, Cavaliers have been the most consistant placing corps in the activity. Second, just because you and your age group don't like the ending doesn't mean that the high schoolers who are watching it don't like it. If you haven't noticed, this activity has gotten boring. Mostly because everything has pretty much been plalyed and is being recycled. It's time to start appealing to the younger crowd. Which seems to be what the Cavaliers have been doing for awhile. Not everyone gets off on I IV V chords. In all honesty nobody should even be concerned with what the older people think, because their time in drum corps is OVER. The young children in the stadium should be the ones that they're trying to impress, seeing as how they're going to be the future of this activity. So if they want to do a little dance at the end of the show to entertain the crowd (which is what people pay to see) then so be it. It actually fits in the show, so i don't see why you people complain about everything they do.
  14. Despite what's happening with the corps right now, the Cavaliers are still a higher caliber corps (and still top 3) than both boston AND scouts. Last time Scouts had a staff change, they completely fell off the grid. Same thing with Phantom. Cavaliers on the other hand have managed to hold their ground the entire season with a product that wasn't anywhere near complete which i guess came to bite them in the butt. Point is you and everyone else write them off EVERY year. And as an alumni i'm proud to see my corps prove every one of you geezers wrong.
  15. It's not a gimmick if its a show about gimmicks lol Plus, you shouldnt get mad at people for trying new things. The goal for every corps is to please the audience and ultimately help with recruitment. Just because its not appealing to you or your age group doesn't mean it's not appealing to the 12 year old sitting next to you at a show. And in all honesty, i'd much rather appeal to the younger crowd. I don't know how old you are, but chances are your days are done in drum corps. You really don't have much to contribute to the activity anymore. But the younger kids do.Not all of them get off to really loud chords and technicality. To each their own
  16. The corps that I saw in early June and the corps I saw in Allentown are completely different. It's been awhile since i've seen a corps clean up a show with all the re writes havin be done to it. In all honesty with that kind of handicap, they should've dropped in score and in placement. But they've manage to stand their ground. Which brings up the next issue. Why can't they break into the top 5 at the moment? I honestly don't believe SCV is 3 plus points better than them right now, and they're not that much cleaner than them either. I understand the drill writer likes to play it safe, which is why their show isn't as difficult (visually) as it usually is. But that can't hold them back, can it?
  17. NOBODY (especially the judges) is going to care how hard your show is unless it's clean. Lots of corps attempt but never actually do. Which is why they have yet to win.
  18. I was in one of these "hardcore corps" so i know how it goes. But all i'm saying is you're going to have bad show(s) at some point in the season rather you want to or not. Even Frameworks had its off nights.
  19. Mistakes happen, fatigue happens, mental errors happen. My corps brought their A+ game as well, but some things just aren't in your control.
  20. Seeing as you're someone who has marched before, you should know by now that everyone is not going to bring their A+ game every night. Ask the Boston Celtics all about that. lol
  21. So you mean to tell me, that you honestly believe the Cavaliers could not catch any of the upper tier corps?
  22. I highly doubt that.. The Cavaliers have A LOT more room to grow than others and have constantly shown people like you not to count them out.
