Best non-winners.....2nd, 3rd, and 4th
tabadabadoo replied to CarelessWhiskers's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Yeah the horn line wasn't very good, but that was hands down one of the hardest drum corps shows to be put on a football field. Starting tempo 192 and ending tempo 208(isn). The judges could obviously see the amount of difficulty going into the show and we were rewarded because of it. If you don't believe me take a good 12 minutes out of your day and tap along to the tempos of that show. -
For starters, you don't even know what was said to him. The corps always has had mad respect for other organizations. It's just an age out who was having fun. In all honesty, you guys take this activity way too seriously if you're going to make an example out of them. How about you call out the bluecoats percussion who were a real problem that night? Drinking before retreat and destroying equipment doesn't sound like a smart idea.

The thing is BD can be quite nice when they're winning. If the organization isn't, then things can get a little hostile. Times have obviously changed since back in my day, but if bd was clapping for you, it's because you weren't a threat to them. By no means am I a blue devils hater. Our corps had a nice little rivalry back in the day. But I'm aware of the tendencies they've have. Different corps different year I guess. Probably trying to change the image they had in the past

Well the thing is, I don't understand how people could think that there have been more competitive years than right now. The quality of players are lightyears above what they were in the 90s (once again my personal opinion) I'm sure I'll get murdered for that statement. The demand is much higher physically and technically. I just don't see how anyone could say that things were more intense than they are right now. I'm sure the people in the 80s thought the people in the 90s weren't nearly as competitive (I can only assume that was the mentality) So I'd like to hear other peoples perspective on why this wouldn't be

In my 14 years of being involved with this activity, there has never (in my opinion) a better top 8. For the 5 years I marched, things were never as competitive and entertaining as they are now. It's amazing how far this activity has come from what it use to be. Does anybody else agree or do I just have a bad memory??

Allentown. . . DAY TWO !

That's the problem with you Crown homers. The ego of the fans (and even some of the members) are why people think they're cocky. Because a corps doesn't have the same taste as you, you belittle them. -

I'm amazed at how everyone just forgets that Crown needs to worry about not being caught by the Cavaliers. Seeing as how they're the only ones gaining any real momentum out of the top top 6. -
When it comes to best hornline, I say Cavaliers 2002 hands down. I've never heard an ensemble in this activity play with as much quality as that corps. Listening to them was like drinking a milkshake. Extremely smooth and easy to listen to. Crown 2012 was amazing. The corps was louder and played more difficult music, but they didn't have nearly as much control as the Cavaliers did. If I could pick both I definitely would.

Cavaliers in Trouble?

Their drill wasn't as hard as it usually is. One of the horn sergeants described it as being (drill wise) the easiest show he's marched yet. Gaines drill was no joke. We were always taught to make everything look easy. It seems to have worked well. -

No. Some might see it as me being bias, but Cavaliers are a better corps overall IMO. In 2009, the competition wasn't nearly as competitive as it is now. Only a fool would think that. Everyone was at the top of their game this year. Not knocking the 2009 season, but if the 2012 shows were performed in 2009, BD probably wouldn't of broken 99. I can't say where phantom would have placed this year, but i'm pretty positive it wouldn't of been 9th. -
Can Phantom get ANY love?!?!

The fact that this is even a topic completely BAFFLES me. If there are any two corps that have this boards undivided attention, it's phantom and crown. Stop being a cry baby. -
Cavaliers in Trouble?

Well when you're trying to continue to be an innovator, sometimes you're going to miss. And that's okay. They were just as clean as anyone else, just didn't have the show to continue forward. -
I agree. When the Cavaliers were winning, you didn't have to TRY to like the show. They were undeniable in a different kind of way.I guess the word i'm looking for is "swagger"
