  1. I just dont see BD with GE, visual or percussion.... sorry, but it was all sub par... compared to their own standards... Im like BD, I like their philosophy, most of their show designs and directions, but this wasnt one of them.... anti climatic... lame
  2. human error... its not like this is the olympics or a professionally run sporting event... its just DCI... come on, cut em some slack... its just this side of a trekkie convention
  3. Hannum is well out of the game, his last decent work was 1993 Star... but its not just the arranger, its Crown's instructional staff...
  4. Crown needs to hire Michael Gaines and perhaps someone experienced and good to come in and take over their percussion.... both these areas are weak
  5. [/code crowd is not that happy with devs being champs... sounds like a tennis or golf clap.... obviously the crowd prefers crown
  6. that's hilarious.... the looks on the dev's faces... like they could ever match against crown in brass... crown has a lock on that award for a decade now.
  7. muwhahahahahaha.... "best brass.... blue devils... whoops.... correction... carolina crown"... (crowd goes nuts and blue devils sulk)
  8. well GE can always help make up for just "ok execution/performance/exposure, etc.".... look at VK back in the late 80's, early 90's... however, in 83 & 85, the corps didnt make top 12, bu their percussion did... sort of like Spirit 89.
  9. I guess you have to have a judge's or instructor's eye to understand...
  10. Everyone keeps talking about Jersey Surf, Jersey Surf... I think their only appeal is a "walk down memory lane"... and quite honestly, those charts are like early 80's high school marching band caliber... and performed about as well... If it were up a notch and t total clean and precise it might have had more impact... otherwise, I think many are just hypnotized by the "idea" not by what's actually out there...
  11. for the life of me I cant see how Phantom's sloppy, poorly designed show is getting points.... blue devils first in percussion? are you kidding me? 'ol JJ is known to be biased... Cadets and BD will always score high in percussion if he has any say.... SCV was the best written and best performed percussion book on the field, hands down... it doesnt get any cleaner than that. Crown winning brass is spot on... I think if JJ hadnt hadnt handed Dev's percussion (was a gift) the spread between 1st/2nd would be much closer... dont get me wrong, Im a devs fan, but their show is just not doing much for me... its so choppy, segues and transitions are like they were cut and pasted... I dont know how they are getting GE as Crown's show seems to be more emotionally spiked... but that's me...
  12. aint that the truth... when will drumlines stop milking the "dancing and hopping" trend that died about 5 years ago? Its like they play nothing but 16th notes and machine gun rolls (what I call a pre warmup) then they squat, come back up, twist their body facing the end zone then back to the crowd, do an Axel Rose kick and then slam about 3 to 4 quarter notes.... and the crowd goes crazy? LOL... I give credit to SCV and Rennick for NOT doing all that ludicrous posturing... and a good many of their visuals/drum tilts, etc. were all homage to early 90's Cavaliers... great stuff... being that they were playing charts identified as "cavie" charts... oh, and they will take percussion at finals hands down... the most impressive drumline on the field this year in both product and performance... no one else is even close for the exception of Cadets.
  13. With that asinine red herring logic that's like saying "no one has ever practiced in the history of DCI, as Crown has practiced at one of their rehearsal today; August 8, 2012." come on dude, dont be absurd. lighten up and chillax
  14. I agree... and that doesnt mean we are dissing the current state of affairs or the activity... it just means we are calling a spade a spade and acknowledging the facts... they dont simply cease to exist because we choose to hold our breath and look the other way.
  15. Being that Christmas is a holiday based on folklore & mythology and that the majority of the music they are playing is non religiously associated, more seasonal, I think its still safe Besides, an overwhelming majority of DCI adores Obama... these are highly creative, talented, artistic, well educated, dynamic people... you dont think these people watch something like Fox do you?
  16. sure... and they paid their dues and contributed over a lifetime
  17. generalize? its the actual statistics and reality of the situation... by global comparison, US students are far behind in the basic fundamentals and necessary skills... it doesnt help also that the WHO since the mid 90's, still ranks the US as the #1 country in the world with the highest % of emotional and mental disorders (1 in 4 people)... what do you think that does to society at large? Have you seen much broadcast media? or the way people act/think?
  18. wait... didnt Donny Van Doren come in and shape that hornline up? Isnt his techniques and program? That's why they sound like Garfield and Star... a protege following in the footsteps is HOF material? eeehhh... dont think so.
  19. Well that's the fault of American culture... kids are over extended, exhausted, burnt out, suffer from ADD, addicted to pharmaceutical grade narcotics to treat it and then end up working well down the line for someone who is a bit more adjusted and mentally stable in life... like a European.
  20. dont know what a "red minus" is... Im assuming its an alcoholic.... but never the less, dont care...
  21. no, Im not trolling or trying to provoke a reaction and I wasnt practicing ageism either, as I have nothing against people over 40 or under 30... but everyone needs to pay their dues... seriously... is Brad Pitt ready for a lifetime achievement award? No, still important work to be done.
  22. Fort Mill, Danville and Myrtle Beach High are High Schools and actually have real bands ;-)
  23. Ive judged some of those bands... none of those are "big time" outside their state.. Fort Mill is decent, was a Bob Cotter band way back when and he got the ball rolling there... but SC bands are very competitive... heck, Dorman gives Crown a run for the money on show design and playing, definitely their percussion is better than crowns, but that's not hard to do... teee hee....
  24. woah, put the guns in the holster... have you really been told "you dont know what you're talking about" from that many people that necessitates you writing a disclaimer? But who hasnt (at this stage) taught championship level corps and bands? That has nothing to do with it, its more about the strong organizational logistics that USBands provides... BOA just doesnt really cut muster anymore... Im not talking about the level of bands, but about the level of administration. And it might have to do with the DCI influence, because corps and corps directors are used to trying to turn #### into gold, making the best of nothing.... so they have to be organized and well planned. oh... BTW, you dont know what you're talking about.... (joking, dont get your panties in a twist) BTW, you played contra, didnt you? I think I might remember you....
