  1. well, I guess the main concern is who you want as your target audience. no point in making a page in a language if no one's gonna read it. the international languages though are something like english, french, spanish, chinese, arabic.. and something else..
  2. ... I was only venting.. :/ I've read the inner game of music, it is a neat book.
  3. Yes. I know how to project, and no, I don't play into the stand. re: bell angles You're supposed to have your bell tilted slightly downward. Apparently it gives you a warmer and more "concert" sound. :/ I've tried it both ways, and I don't think I'm qualified to speak authoritatively on it. tankbone, I hate to say it, but there's nothing to get heated up about. I'm sure both have their advantages. anyway, I'm over it.. I dropped the band. I'm taking enough classes as it is. Thanks everyone for the advice.
  4. I've spent almost all of my brass playing time in drum corps... I just joined a concert band at my school, and it's nearly impossible to play sitting down. Anyone else notice that? The sound is so much thinner, and it's so much harder to play, for some reason.
  5. anyone care to share how this set of breathing exercises is different from any other, without charging me?
  6. so what is this about Cavies' hornline having never known how to play dynamics? their 02 show was practically nothing BUT dynamics. their hornline definitely has gotten better year after year. the sound is much richer and less raunchy than in the past; although I've always thought if you could march drill like that and play at the same time, you can sound however you like. No one else could do it. PR's hornline though.. they have a sound of their own. It's so gorgeous..
  7. Someone please explain what this "sam and pat's breathing gym" is for those of us who don't know it, and don't have any other access to it. merci beaucoup.
  8. I dunno, if you want feedback so much.. even now.. umm.. overtones.. well, someone feel free to correct me.. you get overtones when you have more than one voice going, and they are so in tune with each other that their soundwaves lock that you can hear notes (the overtone series) sort of shimmering above the actual notes you're playing.. an individual can't "play" overtones.. as for the airiness part, you made a good note on using your diaphragm. sound problems usually have more to do technique and air than they do with mouthpiece sizes.. not quite sure what you're talking about in changing your embouchure "when halfway though a long, low tone session" to create a better sound, but um, just always have it set correctly. changing your lips also tends to change your pitch or its tuning, so just make sure it stays steady and consistent. ok. if you need any more feedback or anything, please feel free to let me know. I'm having trouble sleeping tonight so I'm just going through the forums I usually never read, but ah, PM me and we can chat..
  9. hrmm.. not that I know of..
  10. wow, this is really interesting. I never knew there was a time when most groups didn't roll their feet..
  11. lol, you don't need to be old to know VK. I'm caught between 88 and 89, but I loved all of the last 5 shows on that list.
  12. I think high mark time, bicycling, prance stepping, and things like snap pivots were the norm until mid, late 80's. um. I think most marching styles have always had to roll the feet. I know of only one marching style that's exempt..
  13. ugh, boo circle drill! I swear our staff just did it to torture us :D We did it on occasion to work touch and goes and to stress guiding and the importance of flat shoulders in keeping the circle.
  14. BK's in G. Colts are in G except for the contras like Beatty said. Mandarins, like deadly_crescendo says, are in G. PR's switching.. Since when was Madison rumored to go Bb? Where are you getting your info, contraman?
  15. yeah dude, I don't think you'd need it, but you could take your silent brass with you. you could also take your band instrument along, and play it and your school music in your spare time. I usually practice after shows; some people carry their trumpets under their seat and along with after shows, practice at rest stops and during meal breaks. it worked out okay.
