Just some thoughts after watching the preview several times:
UNIFORMS/PROPS
-Like the corps uniform for the most part. Interested to see what the mirrors will be on the chest. Hopefully the pants will be more tailed as the season progresses.
-Really wish that they would add a grey plume with the sparkle in it to the shako to add some height (very Southwind right now). Helpong out hiding the dirt without the plume?
-I can't remember the last time so many different shades of blue in uniform selection this year. (SOA, BK, Crown's pants etc.)
-Guard uniforms are fun and appropriately constructed, but I wish they went for a bolder/brighter color palette to break out of the brightness of the turqousie- we shall see in another venue.
-Guard uniform and flag designs are very In.trace.It, I like.
-The guard headpieces are meh, could be better and could be worse.
-Not a fan of the large trampolines in general. They take up large amounts of space that detract from full form field coverage. I've seen HS bands use them [i.e. Ooltewah HS] and, to me atleast, they come off very amateurish. Wouldn't mind so much if they went for the 0 gravity/ bouncy thing with the smaller portable tramps because they are currently stagnant and very detracting IMO.
-I wish the concert percussion was pushed to the sidelines and toward the end zones for same as above.
PROGRAM
-LOVED the preshow music selection, definetly on par with The Promise of Living from 2009.
-Soild opening and first portion with some great sounds, always appreciate how intergrated the percussion and guard is in the drill design. Thanks crown.
-Could the mufflers before portable to add more motion? Enjoyed the difference in sound though.
-I expect the drumm break drill/staging/work to change for the better in regards to GE.
-The frisbees should be chunked (pun intended) in the garbage, not a fan. Guard work, movement, other effects could capture shooting stars/galaxies. I think the musical interpretation with the moving brass runs is brilliant with the choreography.
-Absolutely SOLID and interesting start to the show. Kudos to you for starting the season looking and sounding sharp!
-Ballad was lush and a wall of sound. I liked the moving drill pace that unwinded to spread along the field. Is it a reference to coming out of a black hole or time warp? WIsh the guard had more flags on the field to spread the sweeping movement and color in the hit of the ballad.
-The ending seemed rushed and to the point. Killer brass feature- will be phenomenal come August. I expect this to grow in length and build up.
-Anyone figure out if/what that routating shape/form was at the end (a la the rotating box and pyramid)?
OVERALL
-Not a percussion guy so can't comment too much on that aspect.
-Guard and brass came out of the gate performing at a high level and can only get better! Guard work is so well written for outdoor and incorporates so much musicality it's rediculous. Brass is knocking on the door of another Jim Ott.
-I think an identitifable visual program and moves is cool (such as the jazz run follow the leader fiiling in to a block), but it also felt a little redundant from years past like at times like they ran out of ideas.
-Will more of a story line develop?
-Didn't realize that this show would be such a nod to 2013 but already enjoying this program so much more now than e=mc^2. Such potential and I definetly think they will medal. Time will tell
A LOT of personal preference in there but it's just my 2 cents. Looking forward to a great summer Crown.
