  1. "lame pot-shots Kamarag? It seems to me that Florida Sun was just making a statement about ticket pricing. I did not notice any "lame pot-shooting". Perhaps you should smoke some pot and cool your jets. There are many people in drum corps who for various reasons can't afford to attend drum corps shows. There is nothing wrong with someone offering kudos to a corps that runs a show and asks for only $8 to attend.
  2. Interesting that there are 166 reviews here but only 2 congratulatory replies. Hummmmm
  3. Florida Sun. Jeff Ream said in his posting that he wasn't questioning you to "be a dick" but judging from the tone of his post, it certainly appears to me that he is sounding like a "dick". I suspect that you have been involved in the activity a lot longer than Jeff Ream and that may qualify you to make a call as you see it by checking out a video. Maybe he is afraid that CVs will take the place of whatever corps he is attached to!
  4. Hi. I was wondering if you know of any videos of the Bronx Kingsmen. I have never seen anything on Utube. They were such a great corps and I would love to see them again (more than just stills).

  5. Careful Camel Lips. They'll start calling you names!
  6. Jeff, when they add woodwinds and trombones, will you still call them drum and bugle corps?
  7. Drum and bugle corps could have evolved over the years as drum and bugle corps rather than into brass marching bands. I believe that what it evolved into could be equated in part to the never ending needs of the instructors to satisfy their intellectual appetites causing the essence drum corps to disappear. There must be some reason why the activity attracts fewer and fewer viewers every year. I attended the DCI at my local movie theater tonight. I counted 16 people in the audience. Lots of talent and very entertaining shows but there is still something missing that is keeping the viewers away. It's the essence of drum corps and I don't mean the heart, soul and family. Yes, I'm 70 years old and I do know what a drum and bugle corps is!
  8. When black boots were traded in for ballet slippers. When so called drum corps convinced themselves that people attending parades would rather see them waving to them and acting silly to solicit a response rather than look "cool" like a real drum and bugle corps. When they started taking any old flubadub off the street, handing them equipment and putting them in an American flag squad. When Gs went to Bs. When drum heads went from sounding like drum heads to sounding like cardboard. When drum corps ceased to be something unique and different. $$$$$$$$$$$$. When they started playing music from other planets. Cross pollination of band and drum corps instructors. I would be interested in hearing some opinions about why attendance at shows is a fraction of what it once was, not that this question has not come up before.
  9. Jeff. With all due respect, I stand by my comments about the Troopers.
  10. Really Jeff? Take a look at a video of the Troopers from the 60s or early 70s and convince me that the public would not go gaga at a parade if a corps that looked and sounded like the Troopers came MARCHING down the street in a current parade. I'll bet the response would be a hell of a lot better than that of the current day corps who walk the parade waving to the audience while having conversations amongst themselves while playing quintessential John Phillips Sousa music.
  11. I think I have the solution that would work best, at least for me anyway. Since there are no competitive drum and bugle corps anymore, why not call what exists brass bands. Then I would not get so upset when I see so called drum and bugle corps acting like clowns when marching down the street in parades while claiming that is what the onlookers want. This would also make sense now that they are utilizing tubas and trumpets and marching much like what I saw in the movie March Of The Wooden Soldiers.I do believe that what we have now are some very talented people who put on very entertaining shows but to me it is not drum corps and yes I do miss real drum corps.
