  1. Takes paper work to start a circuit. Local, then regional, then a championship. Grass roots. You just saved over 75 percent of your budget.
  2. I don't know. If I'm disgruntled and in charge of a corps (are you listening Keith?).....I get on the phone and call everyone and say - "hey, this sucks being the ugly, bucked tooth, redhead stepchild. Let's start our own organization and circuit that will make our organizations function and affordable". Throw up the website, a fan network, and make a model work. If a DC-whatever formed - especially if it's a "rebellion league" against DCI, I think I'd get behind it if it's purpose was to do what DCI isn't doing for the drum corps community.
  3. Here's your revenue: band kids, alumni and band directors. Start there. Business' will sponsor you when they think they'll get a return on their investment. Simple. Basic.
  4. I think band directors are just tired. Can't blame them. Not to go on a rant, there's a reason I taught for a few years and bailed (band director). And it wasn't because I sucked (always got superior ratings), but, it was the system - parents, administration, and other teachers. Took a program from 47 kids to 283 in two years. My band director buddies look stressed, never happy - just overworked.
  5. Could the Open Class Corps break away and start their own circuit?
  6. A lot of great discussions and ideas on how to "fix" DCI's problems (such as corps folding, financial issues, community outreach, encourage new corps start-ups, appease music education, etc;) I thought I'd make a thread of it. What would you do?
  7. I think the plumes need to be a little higher to make the kids look taller (smirk). I was actually happy to see ditch the Good Humor Ice Cream truck uniforms. All the uniforms look Walmart. I'd like to see an overhaul. If you're going to tell a story with your show, I'm not opposed to getting a uniform to match it.....for example - if you're going to do a Gladiator show, then dress to the times - doesn't even matter to me if everyone is not wearing the same thing. It's not that expensive to costume someone for a couple of hundred bucks.
  8. Does anyone have a clip of anything pertaining to SoundSport?
  9. He said to score regionals and championships and eliminate the daily scoring except for the staff.
  10. I mean, really.....isn't this the point. I'm surprised it took 6 to 7 minutes. Had they been in the stands, it might be even sooner with the one perspective. Does anyone care or realize that music education isn't supported because it brings NOTHING (loose term) back to the community - the people that have the money. Everyone is saying income. Last time I checked, there were how many people and companies in your community. What have you done for them to care about you. The bleeding heart "their kids and education" doesn't work. My head response is "yeah, I've got my own kids and money problems". Here is what the public spends money on - the general public. Food, MUSIC and self-pleasure. DRUM CORPS'.......YOU ARE PLEASURE. MUSIC IS HUGE. However, you are not giving it to them. You're hiding out somewhere by yourself like an elitist or a loner. Give the public happiness, electricity, the privilege of seeing not the Kardashians, but kids with horns to their faces playing music. Have a drum barrel there and ask for 5 bucks and they'll drop it. Entertain and interest them. Give and you shall receive.
  11. Go for media sales...streaming, network, etc.....
  12. This is why I was wondering if DCI did it like BOA......regionals on weekends then championships. With online presentations they can still stream and the fans would flock to regionals....maybe??? This saves corps money on buses, travel, food, expenses. DCI saves. Regionals get more important. Demand increases from fans. New corps can enter the game financially. I could be wrong about all this but I'm thinking out loud.
  13. Shouldn't DCI be concerned or care. Are they trying to build an activity or create their top 12 and that's it?
  14. I'd love your take on my thread about possibilities.
  15. Would DCI allow this? I'm speaking theoretically. I'm not starting a corps. Maybe it could be a summer camp instead of day with someini breaks....like football training camp so the rehearsal time is more. I think if the kids approached this like a summer music camp...rehearsing for regionals....and performing around the state....as a new corps....it could be embraced. Should DCI encourage breeding new corps....farm corps or am I living on some hypothetical happy kumbaya planet.
  16. Forgive the typos. Consider reading like playing a valve and rotor G.
  17. Is it possible to start a new corps and just compete in regional shows and championship week. The purpose would be cost. My thought would be to establish the corps in the community and state. Camp during the with winter like everyone else....then during the summer its a day camp.....home at night so kids have a summer. On the weekends...you do local oerfor.abces in the mall, clinics for band directors and travel....let's see this in Florida....do this I Tampa, then Orlando, them Miami, then Jacksonville, then Pensacola..... to get back to grass roots. Gain attention and support through service to the community which can translate into funding and support in so many ways. Then...go to regionals and championships. Sort of like HS band and BOA. Mist if the cost is travel. Eliminate the travel and new corps have a chance to establish. Also....like a camp....you can have nighttime group activities and parties for the kids. I thought of all this when I saw that Music City is folding. The current system doesn't inspire new corps or attract community support.
  18. Back in the day was a Wednesday....by the way - Dane Cook.
